"Ariel" is a hit single written and performed by Dean Friedman, released in April, 1977. It was the first of two hits from Friedman's eponymous debut LP. "Ariel," however, was his only hit in North America. It reached number 26 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart, number 17 on the Cash Box Top 100,[1] and number 19 in Canada. The song spent 22 weeks on the Billboard chart.

I think Dean is one of the most underrated singer songwriters coming out of the 1970's.
His voice has not changed!
He was a bit rough on the high notes though.
This song introduced me to dean I've been a fan ever since and have seen him many times over the last 40 yrs

I first heard Dean Friedman's "Ariel" in 1977 on UK station Beacon Radio which broadcast the "Billboard American Hot 100" charts every week to the West Midlands region of England. The station promoted his album heavily and played all the tracks on it extensively for around 12 months. "Ariel" had originally been a new release contender on Beacon Radio's daily "Beacon Ballot" feature in October 1977, where listeners phoned in to choose their favourite from a selection of new releases. It won and reached the playlist the following week. Being a local station it wasn't able to get the track played nationally, but there was a local "breakout" of sales snd it reached only number 54 nationally (not high enough to be considered worthy of national radio or television exposure). I've been a fan od Dean ever since. A unique writer and performer.
I'm going to see him in Dublin in August. I can't wait. I saw him back in the 80s in London. He was brilliant. I like how he brings back nice memories for people on here. 😊

He is still touring. At least twice a year in the UK and he also does the Edinburgh Festival every year. I saw him performing in London last weekend on the 20th of January 2024.
