      The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is just a tourist attraction, it isn’t anything mystical and it doesn’t hold any authority over music. It’s not a crime, nor is it a shame that Super Tramp told their publicist not to bother with donating money to get inducted the R&R Hall of Fame. It’s nothing to worry about at all.

      Supertramp from this era has held up very well in the time between then and now. And yes, they were not considered the best at the time. But they had some very good songs, memorable lyrics, interesting compositions that usually were multipart with big shifts, such as this one above. For many it's like riding bicycles, by late teens early 20s they're abandoning the bike. Same with fervent music listening. But some folks still listen into their dotage. Me, I stopped actively following modern music about 15 yrs ago because too much autotune, too much crap overproduction, too much hype, and too much style / pose / posture over substance.

    You are right I am wrong ,you can have while I have not! Life of Satisfaction of being Vulnerable and giving all I got. Aimed to Please! Because that's what The Buddha did for me! And Bloody well Right I want only to be happy, Happiness comes from having nothing and finally excepting sometimes you are wrong and it's only human not accepting your Faults but in Meditation and Wisdom you can calmly omit you are right or Wrong it must be thought out throughout

    There are two guitars, pno, drms, sax and bass in some sections, one more guitar than you ever see on stage.

    I think that this is some form of a hybrid version of the song, some parts seem different from the studio recording, Rick's vocals are slightly different and John's sax parts are different. This is certainly different from an actual live performance of the song that in my view lost its grit when played live. The version on the Paris album and later recordings fall into that realm. They kept this version shorter and tighter.

      I don't think the Live '88 and It Was the Best Of Times versions aren't gritty. The latter in particular has a LOT of heft, right from the first note.

    So frickin good. I ❤ this channel. One thing though. I’ve noticed that sometimes it seems mixed with the studio version a little. Does anyone else notice this? Like a Frampton Comes Alive situation or something. You can really tell on the second verse of this song.

    I do believe only Rick's vocal and the ending sax solo is performed live. The rest is the recorded track. The Special had many artists simply sing over the recorded song.

    • @davidkyle2073
      @davidkyle2073 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Ok, and you know this how? Not a criticism, just wondering. I agree with your statement that only Rick's vocal and ending sax solo are live. However, Wikipedia (and readers, if you don't know by now, you should know how that is manipulated almost as much as the stock market by ____________) states The Midnight Special tv show was noted for all live performances as opposed to the common "lip-sync" practice of the day.

      @@davidkyle2073 I was raised on Crime of the Century album. You can clearly hear it's the recorded track except for vocal + sax.
      Some artists did perform on MS all live..just not this particular performance.

    • @78zappaf
      @78zappaf ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I know about the video effects,, but there is damage at the beginning with the visible scan lines, and glitching around the edges. The visual effects was a common thing back then, not the little white lines that are partially visible. Those appear during some tape being stuck (and he reason for baking the tapes)

  • @nonsuch
    @nonsuch ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Awesome! Definitely my favorite one that Roger doesn't sing. I wonder why they chose to use the album instrumental and verses but went with a live lead vocal on the chorus? I don't think I've ever heard a band do that.

    • @nonsuch
      @nonsuch ปีที่แล้ว

      @@beaudure01 Yeah but what I'm talking about is a bit different. Normally, a band will either: Use the original album version completely and mime, use an alternate take and mime, use the instrumental and sing live over it, or on the rare occasion, play and sing live. What Supertramp is doing here on this is they are using the original album version with the original verses but, singing the choruses live. The choruses could be alt takes but i'm pretty sure they are just singing them live. Either way, I've never seen/heard a band do that.
