I watch this weekly. Pure brilliance.
I saw this tour live in Buffalo. I still listen every week also
If only Kate Fenner wouldn't miss so many notes.
@@ozzerbyjohnny She sounds real. For me, it's great. Maybe you're just a little too accustomed to the fake auto-tune singing we get today?
@@gcanada3005 I'm envious. SOMEHOW I missed this tour and after seeing this video, really regret it.
@@djknox2 it was a great concert. This was definitely peak Tragically Hip. It’s me saying this. I saw my first concert in 1989. Was at all the Canada Day shows in Ontario. Many others, including the second last show ever
I can't find any other video where he opens flamenco with coke machine glow, but the spoken word really makes this version. miss ya, gord.
Great tune 🏎️ Ron 🇨🇦
IMO probably the best version of this
The absolute best
Agreed
This version is so amazing. I can't stop listening to it!
I could listen to this a million times in a row and never get sick of it ❤
I've loved this band since 1992 when I first heard them being played in a student bar in Glasgow, listening to Looking For a Place to Happen , awesome to this day
outside of canada these guys were always underdogs
can’t imagine what it would have been like seeing them in the early 90s at the top of their game in europe
i’m sure you’re not the only one they won over in that bar that night
roll on, nighttrain
Saw this tour in the Warner theater Erie Pa...hands down best show of the 21 of them i saw over the years
Not their most popular album (although a personal favorite), but from the looks of it, one of their awesomest tours. What made it so special, if it can be encapsulated in words?
Set list...venue....band was tight as hell...
If I had a time machine, this would be right up at the top of the list. But at least we have TH-cam. Thank you for sharing.
My parents were there at that show. I guess I was too since my mom was pregnant with me haha.
@@MJLanzend8 This could be their best album, although there is stiff competition. I think Gord was just in such good form on this tour. In later years he seemed to yell a bit too much, but on this tour, his vocals were under perfect control. Brilliant.
We love you Gord!
love this song
So subtle and fluid.
Guaranteed 150 of these views are me
hahaha - me the other 67,000

RIP Gord. ☮️❤️🎶
Happy to say I was here for this.
you are blessed. This is a very special performance. Gord is in top form and Kate just seems to feel it.
I was also at this tour, in Buffalo
you lucky dog you.
Holy this is 21 years ago!
Hard to believe, isn't it? Were you there at the Fillmore?
24 now.
One of my hip fans!!
This is beautiful but PLEASE bring back the Sharks video.
I pray this is the song they play at the Junos.
Kate Fenner has such a stunning voice. Maybe a little bit too much "musical interpretation" in some areas. Just love hearing her sing.
Gord was all about “musical interpretation” when he was live. Take it from someone who was there right in the beginning and a dozen times after that. It was all “musical interpretation”. He went off script like nobody before or since. His magic. He didn’t mind if someone else did it. More to the point, he expected it.
I love this rendition and adding a female voice. Fenner is great although I feel she over does it just a tad - only because this song is intended to be so incredibly understated. Maybe a prostitute could teach you how to take a compliment is one of Gord's great lines.
I thought it was spot on!
Maybe a little pitchy in others
xo Love
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I miss Gord and Norm so much
Kate Fenner, so nice.
💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕❣❣❣❣❣♥💔
Coke Machine Glow...
These guys remind me of REM.
Nope...I can see it but having followed the Dead through the early 80’s and 90’s, and having had REM play at my college a lot in the early 80’s...the thing I regret the most is never seeing The Hip live🥺
Blasphemy
KATE
1:58 Kate Fenner
Chris Brown looks like he is making a mistake
Back up singers for the hip make no sense
Never heard her sing before. That his wife?
No. Kate Fenner.
Jimmy??
she kills it in a good way. but also a bad way. notice how she kinda derails the flow of the song by going off tempo. it seems gordo noticed and didn't like it. she did it again, then messed up the harmony.. then gordo riffed "just because I can't sing it, doesn't mean I can't do it". I think that's a direct critique of her contribution.
I didn't hear it that way at all. I thought she had perfect pitch and sultry. Beautiful voice.
Absolutely absurd comment. Speaking from someone who saw this concert tour. You couldn't be more wrong in every conceivable way
@@kevinmann9751agreed, the above comment is completely absurd
TRAGICALLY HIP IS HANDS DOWN 1 OF THE TOP 10 BANDS IN THE WORLD, MAYBE IN THE TOP 5 ! KATE N GORDIE ARE SO IN " SYNC" WITH EACH OTHER, N BOTH IF THEIR VOCAL CAPABILITIES, SEPERATELY AND TOGETHER, ARE ASTOUNDING !!!!!!! +++++++ RIP, MY IDOL EXTROIDANAIRE, AND IM A FEMALE, N I CAN DO GORDIE TO A TEE, MAN , LOL ! I CANT STAND THAT HE'S REALLY GONE.....AND IM STILL !!!, N ALWAYS AND FOREVER SHALL BE +++ ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
The band pointed out justly that the backups were good musicians but didn't fit in what they were trying to do.
I love this song, but I didn't like what Kate added to it.
