Listen, I can be in the most rotten mood, but the moment I see an X-Wing, it immediately improves. I can't explain why, but the presence of this starship gives hope that everything will be better
According to a Death Star officer talking to Darth Vader, 30 enemy fighters were counted. Only two X wings and a Y wing returned to Yavin with the M. Falcon . Seven fighters ( three Y wings and four x wings )got destroyed in the trench run . One X wing was seen shot down (Porkins red 6), another shot down by a Tie Fighter ( John D. red 4). That leaves 18 rebel fighters lost .... probably shot down by overwhelming Tie numbers, heavy anti air craft fire or fuel lost.
Given the tight budget the original Star Wars was shot on, I imagine the real-world answer is they simply did not have enough models to show the fighting between the rest of Red and Green squadrons against swarming TIEs. I figure in-world they were engaged in constant dog fights. Otherwise, it means they showed immense tactical stupidity, seeing how Han is the ONLY person who thought to engage Vader and his wingmen from above. I'm sure during their run, Gold Leader was probably thinking, "Hey, Red Leader, how about a little help here?"
Wow, what an amazing video. I really enjoyed this quick but very complete take on the battle of yavin and basically "A new hope". The script is so good, you really understand whats at stake and really makes you care and wonder what will happen. Its so engaging. This, kings and generals have the best wrinting i've, not read or listened, but experienced.
As always, these are such fun videos to watch. My only critique for next time would be to summarize the movie less and perhaps narrate the events from a perspective that doesn't know or can't confirm some of the fine details. It would have more of that historian feel, as if we were learning about Yavin from a century in the future. Hope that feedback is productive. We appreciate all the hard work and high quality content!
I really love the usage of the still images with the film-reel effect, to get around Disney's copyright banhammer, that's quite genius, and it gives a really nice effect considering the age of the original film. This channel overall is incredible. If you're looking for suggestions about epic Fantasy wars to tackle next, I'd suggest the Wheel of Time's "Tarmon Gai'don", or "the Last Battle". That series is amazing, and full of awesome campaigns that you could cover.
So many battles to do in the clone wars like Battle of Christophsis, Battle of Ryloth, Battle of Malastare, Second Battle of Geonosis, Battle of Kamino, Battle of Mon Cala, Battle of Umbara, Onderonian Civil War i’m so much more
When you analyze the statistics and the events of the battle so clearly (and you did a fantastic job on this) it becomes truly clear that the Rebell scums have all the plot armor in the world and indeed, only in a world of science-fantasy/fiction they could win those battles and eventually the war. Long live the Empire!
A great series to cover are the battles of Legend of the Galactic Heroes such as the Battles of Iserlohn, the Battle of the Amritsar Stellar Region and the Battle of the Vermillion Stellar Region
Agreed. It’s similar to how, in some of their WW2 content, the naming of every single division and commander in a battle takes up so much time that the video would be significantly shorter without them.
It also has to do with getting views. First, unless things changed, videos must be 10 minutes or above for ad revenue. Second, the algorithm favors videos over 15 minutes in length. At least the time isn't occupied with pointless filler content :)
WOW! really loving this new genre from you guys. The small details you add, like a few escape pods being shot down before the droids launch, add that little extra which makes the scene even better. I must admit i wasnt a fan of the sideways scrolling pictures, it was a little distracting, but then the ending finale was just amazing, really fantastic work, added with the music and the stern commentary, it literally gave me goosebumps, in a way not even the movie did, thanks so much guys, hope you keep these coming!
Should've mentioned that Tarkin's choice to destroy Alderaan in particular was a unilateral decision; Alderaan was on a list of planets that Tarkin was supposed to consult with the Emperor first before destroying.
I know we’re early into the GCW for this, but please I’m begging you to do a series on Thrawn’s Campaign. I know it’s now legends but I think it would suit this style of series wonderfully
I already loved kings and generals but this channel is on new level it's basically everything I love in one channel epic fantasy and sci fi worlds lots of battles and cool history of the worlds
Your Star Wars videos are my favourites! Are you guys planning on making any Clone Wars era videos in the near future? I think the battle of Ryloth would be an interesting subject.
I don't know how the Battle of Hoth can be covered due to how short it is. But when it comes to the destruction of the Second Death Star, it will be awesome! P.S: I don't know if the team of this channel will cover the Battle of Jakku or not. But if you guys planned to, then dew it! It will be great to see this battle in animation!
In terms of time covered by the battles, I think Yavin is way shorter than Hoth. At Yavin, by the time the battle is actually commenced, it lasts in universe under 15 minutes.
Love the explanation on why Obi Wan & Darth fought like two old arthritic men when their previous encounter was the most epic lightsaber battle ever recorded in the galaxy!
I’ve been searching for hours on a good explanation on the battle of the Yavin thank you so much for making such an awesome video and making it not only entertaining to watch but detailed enough to understand. 👍
Ah. Nothings better than reliving the glory days of Star Wars. Hope to see something like Warcraft's First or Second War, or the Northrend War. Or Mass Effect's First Contact War or Reaper War.
The battle of Yavin showed the galaxy that the Empire was not as powerful as they expected. Without the battle of Yavin, the rebel alliance would have been destroyed by the empire.
Finally had time for one of these! Really great job, especially with the animation and the 'film reel' effect! Also, I think Devin was having a thrill reciting those classic lines!
Not only the Emperor's will had been tested but his right hand in politics Tarkin had also been a major blow for the Empire. Vader will be punished for his failure.
I want more mentions of Ahsoka, like in the first video of this series! I do agree with you, though. I want a Clone Wars timeline of every event that happened from beginning to end. The same goes for the whole Star Wars timeline in general.
Ive been watching kings and generals for years. Only just found this channel and I love this too. You are one of my favorite youtubers keep up the awesome work.
I've seen the movie a million times and still never realised the trench was located where it is. I always assumed it was the trench around the equator. Great series of videos.
Rebel loses: 26 fighter craft and their pilots. Imperial losses: 1.5-2 million personnel. Thousands of Tie fighters. Thousands of officers among them Grand Moff Tarkin. It was close but ended up being the most one sided victory in galactic history.
Enjoyed this, but it felt much more like a re-enactment of the movie than the previous Star Wars ones. The Wizards and Warrior vids are enjoyable, but the Kings and Generals content is the best imo. Thanks for all of it 👍
Beautiful video and narration with some extra details that were not in the movie. I would only note that there was little mention of the dogfights before the trench runs and the appearance of Vader's squadron
This was the SW movie A New Hope in Historical Documentary form. Well done. I enjoyed this one. My compliments to all those who made this video a reality.
Hey man I think the clone wars would prove really condusive to your style of videos i really hope you cover them. Also your content is some of my favorite on this app I look forward to lots more!
I would like to recommend the Yuuzhan Vong war that took place in the New Jedi Order series as it was an invasion type story plus with interesting political angle.
I love your work, keep it up! Also, at some point down the road, I would love to see how you guys think certain battle in star wars, especially the sequel trilogy, should have gone. That would be fun!
I absolutely love this look at Star Wars. The top down view of the galaxy showing where the various systems are relative to each other adds another dimension to the story. The clone wars is going to be very interesting indeed if you guys get to it.
Throughout this series i have been thinging, that the age of star wars is really noticeable. the plans for the death star were the focus point a lot, but from a modern perspective it makes no sense, that these plans couldnt have been replicated.
Rogue 1 established the only complete copy of the plan were on Scarif. Considering this was a top secret project it makes sense the plans would be secured to prevent them from getting out of imperial hands. Now it would be necessary for other plan to exist but these would be incomplete plans for individual parts and section needed for construction. These would have been useless to the rebels who need complete plans to fully examine the station for weaknesses.
Why would they need to be replicated? The Empire didn't need them to finish Construction, since that was already done, the Rebels just needed to steal them to find a weakspot. Your criticism makes no Sense.
A 'modern perspective' assumes arbitrarily fast connectivity that we don't see in those movies. The rebels transmit the plans to the corvette, which escapes just long enough to get captured near Tattooine, which isn't a communications hub. Assuming Kenobi is aware of the plans, he was trying to ferry them to Alderaan, where the Organas could have got them out to the galaxy. The next time they're in a position to do anything with them is after the Death Star escape, where they promptly get the plans to the rebels at Yavin Base. They _might_ have been able to use the Death Star itself to distribute the plans; it certainly had the capability to do so. On the other hand, Luke was preoccupied with other things and the Jedi was busy sabotaging other parts of the Death Star to secure an escape.
Outstanding! Liked very much the way the battle was analyzed and story told keeping the Star Wars universe mythos while utilizing the excellent Knights and General's approach. Good work 👏
Six months after the Battle of Yavin: "A long time have I watched the man called Darth Vader from the darkness, from the shadows of my Master's chambers. The last of the Jedi Knights, the last of two Sith Lords, a solitary man with an unquenched thirst for revenge. He now pursues the last stragglers of the Alliance to the fourth moon of Yavin, where he will unleash his anger and avenge the destruction of the Death Star. I believe the Rebel scarcely know the swift and sudden retribution that awaits them." - Mara Jade in Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds, Darth Vader's campaign
If you ever do the Battle of Hoth, I wonder how you’d tackle it. There are so many moving parts and simultaneous stories that happen besides the ones we see in the movies and I’d love to see it all in your unique style ! :)
@@Emperorbattleship They're like Mitsubishi Zero's in the early war. Faster and more maneuverable than anything in the sky, but towards the end of the war they were obsolete.

This is awesome… I would suggest focusing on the battle not the recap of the movie. It kinda takes you out of the documentary feel. The Battle of Scarif nailed that vibe. Keep the 35K foot view for this vibe. Great work fellas! ❤
I read a good fanfiction that makes me see this totally different. Vader learned Lea was his daughter in the interrogation and was actually helping them take out the Death Star
Really enjoy this form of storytelling. Looking forward to much more! It does bring the question though ... Given the Meridian trench and exhaust port location, relative to the Death Star's super laser array, did Dodonna err is sending the y-wings in the trench???
Most of this video is the backstory leading up to the battle. I wish more time would have been spent on the actual details of the battle and any facts/info that wasn’t disclosed in the movie.
Well… There are at least one source I know on what happens after the Battle against the Death Star. And that comes from the 501st Journal in the original Star Wars Battlefront II. About less than a fourth of the pilots from the Death Star managed to escape the explosion and hookup with a nearby Imperial Fleet to retaliate against the Rebels on Yavin. Now gameplay aside, I am sure that a battle did occur in the Orbit of Yavin - with the Rebels trying to fight their way out of the Imperial Blockade and head to other friendly systems - but I am sure that the Imperials were not prepared to fight this enemy yet. So this second battle over Yavin - to me at least - was a draw.
I don't know the modern mythos now that Disney owns Star Wars, but the old legends expanded universe did talk about the Rebels having to flee Yavin in the aftermath. There was even mention of the capture of the Rebel commander Jan Dodonna (sp?) in the confusion and his subsequent imprisonment on the super star destroyer Lusankya. I can understand why Disney would un-canon the expanded universe to make room for their own stories. But there was a lot of good stuff (and some not so good) that was thrown away. Still, it would be really cool to see some of the old stories done on the channel, even if they aren't official anymore.
I really don't like the bits where you summarize the movie. I know this was a short battle, but I can't wait for you to hit the stuff in the books. And by books, I mean the old canon, where they actually had interesting fleet battles with a little thing called strategy.
I have to complement and thank you on your videos with your videos. Saying they are well made goes with out saying. But they are well though out with the world building

If this series gets to it, the empires final battle of jakku is going to be interesting with all the moving parts and lore before it
Plz Keep them Coming. Something different and out of the Ordinary. On You Tube. Really Good work. @ Wizards & Warriors.
kick-ass, keep these up please. don't leave out the republic commando squads😋
Battle of yavin, a tense David vs Goliath situation if any.
@@Andy_Sidaris Fair enough
I really don't like the bits where you summarize the movie. I know this was a short battle, but I can't wait for you to hit the stuff in the books. And by books, I mean the old canon, where they actually had interesting fleet battles with a little thing called strategy.
I think this channel will have more content than its real life counterpart... *munches on popcorn* "Gooood, goooood" :D
Would be cool if you could show every battle known in star wars lore from the old republic to the most recent battles.
old republic lore videos would be great
Super dope video plz make more of these on star wars!!
The battle that changed the Star Wars Galaxy as we knew it.
I have to complement and thank you on your videos with your videos. Saying they are well made goes with out saying. But they are well though out with the world building
This story would make a good movie.
