    You could probably do a video just showing that circle and people would watch it. Something is mesmerizing about that!!! ALL HAIL HYPNOTOAD!!!!!

      I might do just this. I am thinking about playing tunes through it for fun.

      @@GARDNSOUND What tones did you use to generate the spinning ring? Also, I actually really like the red!

    From what I know about colors on a CRT TV, you have to adjust the R,G and B beams by rotating rings somewhere before the coils on the tube. By doing so, you will direct the beams on the R, G and B little spots on the screen (yes, look at it very closely : one single dot is in fact a combination of 3 dots : a red dot, a green dot and a blue dot).
    Be patient because it is quite difficult to tune it properly. I remember having destroyed the image of a CRT TV that could no longer be other color than grey... before I understood I've touched the 3 rings... ;-)

    Have you heard of Jerobeam Fenderson? He makes music that is designed to be played through this type of display. It's pretty neat to look at!

    Great video! I’m no expert but maybe there’s a way to alter the screen in front of the crt. Supposedly there’s some phosphor layer or mask that can be removed. Other than that the other possibility is maybe controlling the electron beams with magnets 🧲 to alter the color. I’m going to try this myself and see what I come up with.

    Great video! I have a LCD VGA PC screen (specifically the AOC LM725, it is a 2005 screen, not a tube screen). Can I do the same experiment with it?

    • @thelonelytimbit

      You should be able to, and it will actually be better suited as the front lead plates can better handle the focused radiation this mod creates

    If you have imbalance in between your left and right channel (such as the songs that they apply effects that pan the music or even vocals) you will have issues with your scope measurements. Excellent work though! I have done this successfully a couple times myself. The red may be due to the coils not being connected to the driver (the pc in your tv itself). The driver knows this and maybe only activatimg the red electron gun.

    How do you get audio too? The output of the signal > amp > rcas going to the crt. What’s connecting to the speakers

    • @zim5255
      @zim5255 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Boan I used an A/B box and connected a 1/4in to an old bass amp i had for audio but you can connect it to something like a Zoom if you want to record the audio. But yeah google AB Box, really helps for this project

    No claim here that I know anything, but, you might want to measure the resistance of those defection coils and use those values for resistors on the board where you disconnected them. Basically you left that circuit open with no load, if that is sensed it might effect the colour. I'm scared of CRT's myself, might have something to do with me pouring a vase of water into a b/w TV as Dad was asleep watching a movie when I was a kid, or was it the TV repair man shouting at me when I started poking the circuit board with a metal dinner knife?, might have been double trauma. I'm a subscriber of @LookMumNoComputer channel and just subscribed to your channel.

    Love this! Tried this today and followed your tutorial. But since I don't have an Amplifier I used an Aux Cable and connected the left channel with the vertical coils and the right with the horizontal coils. Unfortunately I couldn't really get this working because I just got a straight line on the screen. Do you have idea what could be wrong?

    • @GARDNSOUND
      @GARDNSOUND  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah it sounds like you've only got one axis firing. But, I'm way too new at hacking TVs to provide any solid advice :(

  • @lukass9834
    @lukass9834 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    thanks for the great video! I want to make one of these, but my amplifier only has a pair of speaker outputs :/ would it be possible to daisy chain the speakers and tv wires without affecting the amp? thanks :)

    • @GARDNSOUND
      @GARDNSOUND  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      definitely. the signal coming from the amp is attenuated to work for both. you might see a drop in volatage, but you can just turn the amp up more.

    • @lukass9834
      @lukass9834 5 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @SnoMan1818
    @SnoMan1818 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    ok so after you solder the wires to the audio input on the back of the tv I got a little lost... how were you able to plug into the amp from your laptop?? I really want to make this a summer project

    • @GARDNSOUND
      @GARDNSOUND  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have an audio interface routing two separate audio signals. One left and one right. They must be separate to achieve this effect!

    • @SnoMan1818
      @SnoMan1818 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      GARDNSOUND I've got a steinberg ur44 as an interface, I'm just wondering what you do in order to plugin/make a cable to/for the tv

    • @GARDNSOUND
      @GARDNSOUND  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok, dope. I made a cable using speaker wire, one side is an RCA jack - the other is bare speaker wire, because it's hooked up to a hi fi amplifier.
      So Computer - Interface - HiFi Amp - TV

    • @SnoMan1818
      @SnoMan1818 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      GARDNSOUND OK cool so basically the rca cable is stripped away then gets directly looped around/joined with the vertical and horizontal crt wires?

    The red color is either the other guns are turned down or inoperative. If inoperative, I would look for bad grounds in the other two color circuits. Have fun as this stuff is
