Flat bottomed drills. You make the rockin' world go 'round! A set of flat bottomed drill bits sized for all the standard cap-head screw counterbores, would be a very hand tool for the workshop.
Gday Steve, this is a great idea, I needed a flat bottom for a cap head bolt and I did the same with from memory a 10mm drill, worked perfect the second time, the first grind just wasn’t quite right, thank you for sharing Steve, your videos are always very helpful, ATB Matty
Hi Mat Thanks that is great I'm pleased it worked for you. You can also use and mill cutters for small holes but it's still worth having longer flat bottom drills as well. If you can grind the small diameter ones like 10mm and get them cutting it is great.
Amazing! You got the new drill faces cut back evenly so they would both cut. I bet I would have trouble accomplishing that. I'm currently pouring lots of time and material into a specialized grinding jig. Not steady enough nor can I see well enough to do offhand grinding work anymore.

Hi Steve, I generally use end mills for this job, but once you get into the larger sizes your method is the go. Good tuition. Cheers Rob
Thanks Rob, that is a good point. I forget to mention end mills. They are great for this purpose. Regards Steve
Great tip video. A “tool hack” from a time before such phrases
Your the man Steve!!!
