Actually, I don’t believe it’s important to “wait until he was old enough to understand “. Anyone can “understand” in their own way at any age. They can continue to ask questions as they get older and process more but there is no time that is too early.

I came out when I was 14... the first thing my mom said was "Psh... I've known that since you were little. I'm a mom. You came from my own flesh and blood." lol.

Parents can have all the signs but sadly can be in denial because they don't want to believe it's true.

Telling your immediate family is the hard part. They’re the ones that matter. You already have a step up on a lot of people. Coworkers and friends will just have to understand. From this day forward, if asked, say that you are gay. Introduce yourself and be yourself

I liked when your bother remarked that he would have eventually understood you were “hiding” something had you not addressed the sister-in-law versus brother-in-law issue. This shows that, generally, you have good communication in your family. Dialogue is so important. Especially in a family. Lack of dialogue is one of the gravest ills that plagues society, leading to misunderstandings and so much harm … So, please, do celebrate and treasure the beautiful dialogue that you have in your family. Oh wow! The way you came out to your brother is a lot like the way I came out to my family. I didn’t want to just say “I’m gay” cause it kinda felt attention seeking to me. I tried to make it personal and sincere and I came out to my family one at a time. Separately. Also your brothers reaction was a lot like my moms. She didn’t have any questions, and I had to ask her if she had any, which felt kinda weird. But if I’m being honest I’m so relieved I didn’t get any backlash from coming out, and I’m super glad it went well for you too. Well, I guess I’m not really 100% out yet. My aunts and uncles don’t know, and neither do my grandparents or cousins or anything like that. Just my mom, dad, sister, and two close friends. I don’t want any other friends I have to know. Word would probably get out. I’m only 14, and going to high school next year. I don’t want to deal with bullying a second time in my life. A lot of people in my grade have almost no empathy and can be complete jerks. After high school though, I’ll be free. ☺️ Thanks for making this video. It made me feel really good and happy for you.

OMG...I wish I would've had your guts (bravery) way back when! I'm still tightly shut in the closet...Well, considering those times, (I'm 70 years old now) it was impossible to even hint getting out. It was totally taboo to talk or even think about anything below the belly-button! I had no one to open up to...and still don't. My dad died when I was just 10...and I had no idea about anything sex (literally), I finally found out during my Senior year in High School...It's a long story. I wouldn't mind sharing with you if you wish! Un fuerte abrazo desde Puerto Rico.
