  • Tutorial for Briggs and Stratton repair on 17.5HP Engine. Engine won't start or runs rough. This one is the manual choke model via throttle control. Approx 2018 year model. This is Usually caused by leaving gas in system to long and carb will jell up and engine won't run or a piece of trash made it past the fuel filter. This repair can usually be done Free! Or Very Cheap. Of course in Extreme cases, this method may not work and replacement of carburetor is necessary.. but this will work 90% of the time!

      Stop using cheap gas 98 octane, bio free !
      You will have better luck with your machine,
      After you replace your carburetor fuel line, shut off line and filter
      Paper filters works the best for gravity flow !
      And by all means clean and flush out your fuel tank

      @@JLPicard440 I also wanted to tell you that my emulsion tube was really jammed in there. I couldn’t push it past the opening in the barrel. My solution was to feed bailing wire through it, just double the fed- end over, wrap the long end on a rack post and quick tug about 3 times to free it. Just in case that helps anyone else.

    Very helpful video. So I have a craftsman T110 Briggs and Stratton 17.5HP . Cranks and won't start. I used a little of starting fluid, and it cranks and runs while the starter fluid lasts and then shuts off. I already cleaned the carburetor. New spark plug. New engine oil. My last guess is buying a new carburetor. Any suggestions before i order a new carburetor?

    • @JLPicard440
      @JLPicard440  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Does that engine have a fuel pump? Im working on one as we speak and it has one (Gas tank is in the back is probably why. IF yours is gravity fed then probably doesn't have it.) If yours does, disconnect the line going into the carburetor and point it into a jar. Crank over the engine and see if it's spitting out fuel... You should see a pretty good stream there... If you don't have the fuel pump what about the filter? IS fuel making it into the carburetor?

    • @osvaldotrevino1991
      @osvaldotrevino1991 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@JLPicard440Mine doesnt have a fuel pump . I was able to find the problem, though. It was the carburetor solenoid located under the carburetor. I decided to buy aftermarket since OEM is pretty expensive at 65 dollars, so i got one for 13 dollars from Amazon and worked perfectly. Thanks for your helpful videos. Keep up the great work 👍

      @JLPicard440  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Great find! Those usually don't go bad unless fuel sits in the carburetor and causes the plunger to not move back and forth well... Glad you got it going...

  • @Chris-qr3ce

    My carburetor looks exactly the same except there is an adjustment screw near the fuel inlet and the idle speed screw and I can't find the procedure to adjust it

    • @JLPicard440
      @JLPicard440  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      HI, if it's a fuel adjustment screw I would turn it all the way in until it stops then back it out about 2 turns. From there it should run and you can fine tune it until your engine sounds right. Im just throwing the 2 turns adjustment out there as a starting point. It is not meant to be an important number.

    Hopefully you see this! I pulled and cleaned my carb as shown here, thanks for the helpful video! Now my mower surges but only on high RPM. Should i reclean it or is there an adjustment screw? I believe its too lean

    • @JLPicard440
      @JLPicard440  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      HI Surging on these is usually caused by some trash somewhere in the carburetor. Yes I would probably clean it again. Make sure to remove and clean all the little holes in the emulsion tube. Time index (8:00). Take a look in your gas tank and make sure you don't see any little particles floating around on the bottom. If so, even if you clean your carb it might re-contaminate your newly cleaned carb..

      @JLPicard440  18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      HI... I don't remember on that particular one. IF the gas tank is under the hood under the steering column then it's more than likely just gravity fed. If the fuel tank is in the back then it'll have a fuel pump.

    • @JLPicard440
      @JLPicard440  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      HI! Without seeing it I can't be sure. Sometimes there an o-ring on the needle valve for the idle, sometimes there's on o-ring on the emulsion tube, but I don't think this one uses one... It doesn't go on the bottom of the bowl bolt does it? Usually that's a flat gasket.

    Sweet vid! Thanks
    So I’m doing a tune up/trying to correct surging but @8:00 you say the main jet doesn’t always thread out to get at the emulsion tube. Mine will not and I’m afraid to damage it.
    I guess I’ll bypass it for now but I’d really like to correct the surging, any ideas?

    • @JLPicard440
      @JLPicard440  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes the surging may be caused by the low speed jet. I don't remember exactly where it is on this one, but those little holes inside the Venturi are usually part of that circuit. If you google "low speed jet surging" something should come up about what I mean. I hope that helps.. There are other things that could cause it, but I've found that to be most common.

    You took off the top of the engine housing but did not show the complexity of putting it back in place. Two spacers fell out when I removed it and I have no idea where to put them. I put the top back without them and destroyed the fins or restart. Also, I could not refit the air filter so I knew something was amiss. AJC

    • @JLPicard440

      HI, sometimes I don't show how it goes back because it goes together exactly the same way it came apart. It''s 5 bolts and a plastic clip. I reviewed the video and there are no spacers involved in taking that off.
