    If Scotty designed a vehicle, what should it be called? The Kilmer Classic. CHEAP, has a timing chain, NO BEAUTY ENGINE COVER, 4 cylinder, non-interference engine, A DIPSTICK, manual tire gauge in the glove box, no battery except to start it, no CVT transmission, MANUAL transmission, no GDI fuel injection, fat juicy backup camera, cold AC, clears that speed bump in Scotty's neighborhood, survives the stop sign during lunch hour, manual parking brake, AN ACTUAL KEY to start AND unlock it, made in Japan, no turbo, automatically changes its own oil every 5000 miles, gets great gas mileage except when you drive... like Scotty, has an actual chassis, cloth seats, no sun roof to leak, no plastic stuff, cheap available replacement parts, a GAS CAP, lasts half a million miles, and comes with a trustworthy mechanic like Scotty (with a scan tool). Did I miss anything?

    Me and my Fiance have a Giulia. It took a lot of work to get it back to like new condition at 60,000 miles, and I did it all myself as a mechanic. Fuel pump and module, leaking radiator and coolant tank, oil leak and coolant leak from turbo, some broken interior bits, and it eats through tires like a Tesla because of the torque. I put wider tires in the back to handle the torque. The engine and transmission are very reliable ignoring everything else.

      Stelvio hates dashcams, or at least mine does. After getting a check engine light I found out the when you turn the car on it runs a check of all the systems and takes about 4-5 seconds. If you have a dashcam plugged in it’ll interfere/interrupt that check because it’s drawing from the battery and will throw codes.

I don’t plan on keeping it past 120k or so, but I have a feeling it’ll be much less expensive to repair than a similar BMW or Mercedes. My dad owns a 1980 Alfa Romeo Giulietta, which he had for 42 years now. No major issues over that period except for rust, which was sadly common with older models.
    I own a 2020 Alfa Romeo Giulia and it's genuinely the most exciting car I've driven. Oddly, I find that my fuel consumption is lower in dynamic mode than in the other modes, think it's cos the throttle response is better so don't have to put foot down. I get like 9/10 litres per 100km with Shell 95 fuel.
    As long as you use the correct oil every 15 000km or year (whichever comes first) and clean or change air filter as well, then there'll be absolutely no issue with the car.
    Servicing on time and having a mechanic with good workmanship makes all the difference. Have a 2003 VW Polo for 18 years now with 193 000km with no major issues at all

    We have a 2013 Jeep wrangler, lifted and outfitted. The Pentastar 3.6 has given me a few headaches over the years, mainly the oil pressure sensors, the oil filter housing adapter and the freedom top leaks when it's rains. Other than that my wife and I daily it, not the most comfortable ride down portlands pothole riddled streets. And lastly the fuel economy, on 35s average 17mpg. All in all, we love our jeep, it's been pretty reliable, but jeep does stand for Just Empty Every Pocket.😅

      @modernneanderthal6970 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @MrRogvolta considering I have been a mechanic for 25+ years, jeeps are for the most part reliable. The headaches usually stem from the smaller inconvenient items. My wife's wrangler leaks from the freedom tops whenever it rains, although I have changed the seals and gaskets it still leaks from time to time. The occasional check engine light for something that goes away after a day or 2 of driving. I compare it to the early Ford cam phasers, or GMs truck engine piston slap or go even earlier Hondas coil relay that craps out. It's all minor headaches. Unlike European cars that are plagued with electrical problems, overly cramped engine bays and over engineered systems. But each to their own

      @modernneanderthal6970 doesn't sound very reliable to me. I get your point, the problem is that you compare american vehicles with European and neither of those are reliable vehicles. Japanese vehicles are the ones you should be comparing when we talk about reliability.

    Most of the things you say on your channel are true, but I do take exception with your assumption that Alfa Romeo is gonna fall apart. My wife and I are on our second Stelvio with absolutely no issues whatsoever. My wife has developed a leadfoot because of, well, you drove the car, so you know. So far, so good, my fingers are still crossed because I am aware of Alfa Romeo in the United States (in Europe, especially in Italy, Alfa Romeo has made extremely reliable cars for decades). By the way, Alfa Romeo was making sport sedans when BMW was making 3 wheel micro cars under license from Italy.

    • @mattbrawner7888
      @mattbrawner7888 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It wont fall apart. It’s manufactured by Chrysler. It wont last as long as a Toyota or Honda by any means, but it’s not a independent company with subpar capabilities slapping together cars anymore. They are owned by a large umbrella company. It’s honestly just a Chrysler product with the name applied.

    • @mattbrawner7888
      @mattbrawner7888 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It’s exactly like the modern Maserati brand. They aren’t falling apart anymore. They are Chrysler vehicles. At least until now. Another manufacturer is taking Maserati over now.

      And if you watched the video he was mainly referring to the cost of maintenence

    • @BossDM-2
      @BossDM-2 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It never really was a subpar company. It went through some bad times, like virtually every auto manufacturer has at one time or another. The problem was the US market, especially in 1970s and 1980s. Even more specifically, the problem was the company's lack of organization/dealer network in the USA. Alfa was finally bought by Fiat in 1987, I think, after Ford indicated it was interested in the brand. Look up the history of the brand. Henry Ford himself once said, “when I see an Alfa Romeo pass by, I lift my hat.”

    • @AYarter
      @AYarter 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@originalthoth7313 That's not true at all. In fact, that's illegal. The magnuson moss warranty act says that any repairs or maintenance cannot void the warranty unless they are done wrong. Even still, the repair can only void the part of warranty that they worked on. So, an oil change does not void the transmission warranty.
      Parts are tough, but retailers like Alfissimo take care of that.

      He bought his wife the top model Quadrifoglio version of the Mito then, produced till late ‘15 so 8 to 13 years old car. Does it still run? Price a head gasket set. Do you own a torque wrench and metric sockets and wrenches? Do you own a repair manual for your car?
      Can you afford a machine shop to check for warpage on the head(s)and fix or replace? Valve job and guides?
      Finally does the car have enough work room to pull off the head(s)in the car?
