hi Tiffany, many many times I have tried making flax gel for my very fine hair, many different variations. None of them worked, so I gave up a year ago. I was just sitting here wishing that I could find a 'light flax gel recipe' and then I saw the little flag on you tube showing I got a message from you! It was light flax gel! That's a very cool co-incky-dink. I have try it.
Haha that's awesome! I love when that kind of stuff happens. I hope this recipe works for you if you end up giving it a go 🤞 it feels very light after scrunching, and I can tell that my scalp really likes it (no itchiness whatsoever). I'm not a huge fan of DIYs in general, but I can tell why people rave about flaxseed gel.
Thank you! I prefer this over the OM, but tbh I'm not a huge fan of the OM gel. I used to like it, but now I can't get it to work for me like others. The flaxseed gel is a little lighter I think, whereas the OM can sometimes weigh my hair down if I use too much
@@tiffanymcnerlin157 you're welcome:) oh ok then, I will be trying the flaxseed soon. I just bought some. question do you think you can do a review/demo on aunt jackies don't shrink flaxseed gel? I just bought some but would like to know how it agrees with your hair texture. I'm a 2b girly.:)
a question about the hydrolyzed collagen...what does it do? I tried it and I could not tell that it did anything. When I make flax gel, I add a little gelatin and it gives great hold, but I didn't notice that when I used the hydrolyzed collagen. Does it help with clumping maybe?
Hey, Anna! Collagen and gelatin should have similar effects in terms of providing protein. However, gelatin is capable of forming a gelatinous "layer" which might be that hold you are mentioning. I personally do not like the feeling of gelatin in my hair so that's why I like using collagen. Tbh I think it just comes down to preference.
@@tiffanymcnerlin157 so the collagen adds protein, no hold and the gelatin adds protein and hold. I only add a very small amount of the gelatin, so I get just a slight hold. The first time I tried it made my hair way too stiff! i was following swavy courtneys demo, which worked great on her hair but not mine. Thanks for answering my question Tiffany!
Hi Tiffany, I have a question about your recipe. You said to use 1 T of hydrolyzed collagen. I have seen some people use hydrolyzed gelatin. I know the collagen is broken down more to smaller particles. Have you any idea of how it might affect the hair gel to gelatin vs collagen?
Hey, Anna! I've used gelatin once but only with a deep conditioner so I'm not sure when it comes to a gel. My best guess would be that gelatin forms a harder layer (maybe almost film forming in a way?) than collagen peptides, but I think it might be a little heavier on the hair too. Next time I make flaxseed gel I'll try it with gelatin and see what happens 😊
Flaxseeds for the win lol
Also, correction: what I used to strain the flaxseeds was a milk bag, not a cheesecloth. Links are in the description :)

What is this for an super cool music you use my dear? Where can I find it? And super Video❤
Great video! I also love flaxseed gel and make my own too. I'm interested in seeing the Chia seed gel because I haven't heard of that yet 😁...
Thank you! Yea I saw my chia seeds right next to my flaxseeds and wondered if chia seed gel was a thing. Googled it and found out it is! Haha 😂
I have some women who are making oatmeal gel also and I have seen it combined with flax.
You look fabulous! Is this better than the orange marmalade gel?

Hey can store it ???
Hey! I store mine in the refrigerator for about 7-10 days without a preservative.
@@tiffanymcnerlin157 thank you💋
This is great! I may get brave enough to try this! :)
You can do it! I have faith in you, Mrs. Teri 🙌💜

Sitting here with the same kind of container. 😅
