Very enjoyable video! I came here because the 'Terminal Directive' review was astonishingly in-depth and perceptive in its assessment of the narrative issues of that game. I particularly liked the idea put forward in that video that the story should have occurred through the cards, rather than around the cards. It's a pity that this video only gets 9k views when it's so well done. I particularly liked the Neo 'there are no dudes' scene! :-)
I just checked into Netrunner today at my local game shop. Glad to see your video to get a little more perspective on the game. I look forward to some more informational videos about the game.
I'm playing Magic the Gathering for seven years now and also like to play it competetively. I like to say in advance, that Magic is my main game - however, I wanted to start fresh, start something new. I got to know about Netrunner through my best friend and fell instantly in love with how vastly different Netrunner is played. I started with the release of the new Core Set and I felt like I'm on a new journey, exploring the cardpool and the possibilities in Netrunner and also get involved in the local Netrunner community. I was welcomed and I was overwhelmed how inclusive the community is (online and offline). I was a complete newbie on Jinteki.net and my first game was like a whole tutorial on the game by a stranger, that was awesome! As I said, Magic is for me the best game. But if you dont want get invested in old-school trading card games and yet enjoy complex and strategic deck building, go for Netrunner. It's absolutely worth it!
It lives! It's still living. NISEI has released two full sets and more coming, and filling out 250+ player world competitions in addition to all the nationals, regional, store champs, and GNK's that FFG used to. All on a volunteer community team.
@@GarldBonkdonk Hello, im thinking of playing netrunner this 2020, besides the revised core set do i need the data packs and expansions? i heard they are hard to get? :(
@@jackmerrick78 Excellent! Welcome! There are sites like codepen.io/Theavon/full/YQmgBG/ that will allow you to print proxies, which are accepted at all NISEI tournaments, as well as a New Player product coming down the line sometimes later in 2020. Getting your hands on existing cards is a struggle which sucks, but fortunately you don't need to have physical cards to get started! Jinteki.net has you covered for online play, and a community that is very welcoming to helping new players get into the game! Another suggestion is netrunnerdb.com, when you've built a few decks you can figure out what you want/need. There are many older data packs that have rotated out of Standard, so unless you want to play Eternal format, you can skip them for some time (Either proxied or found physical) so that helps cut down on the load to start with. Let me know if you have other questions!
@@GarldBonkdonk Hey man! thank you very much for your reply, I'm thinking of getting Revised Core Set and play with my girlfriend, she thought it's an interesting game. So if we get the revised core set, I can just go to codepen and print the cards i need instead of buying it? we want to try to play standard :D
100% agree. The production of this game has ended but it will live forever if at least two people never stop playing it and I will never stop playing it.
@@doity WOTC ended the licence it gave to fantasy flight games for ANR, so it's essentially out of print, and no longer being made. i too found out about this a bit late, but there is still some left!
@@mrpotatohead34 Have I got good news for you!! The player base is actually keeping it alive, complete with releasing new cards, rotating old ones, and ensuring access to previous cards for new players. From a recent reddit post not mine: " The game is being continued by NISEI (www.nisei.net) , and you can easily get the new NISEI cards by ordering from their site. For old cards, use proxynexus.net to print off lists of old FFG cards - you can even order professionally printed proxies from MakePlayingCards.com! Lots of options out there for new players to get into the game, and for old players to keep playing."
Impressive stuff... Really love the idea of the videos with helpful overlays and info as I am relatively new and don't know all the cards. Love the game and you're video is great and earned another like and sub. :D thanks
Figure I should post this for people who are still on the fence You can try this game out digitally for free on Jinteki zot net most of the netrunner community uses this site to play against others and try out new ideas and socialize I highly encourage you to give it a show down the road people are very friendly about the game :3
The main issue with an LCG is that it does indeed have a higher entry cost... Making it hard to attain new players for many games. For a CCG you'll often get handed extra cards for free by some random stranger who heard you need cards. For an LCG you're on your own, and if you're a half-broke college student like I, you can't just test it out offhand if there's nobody in your area to play with (there isn't, at least that's a nice bunch which won't get weird about me borrowing cards for like literally twenty minutes of their life). So while I vastly prefer the LCG business model I don't know if there's a way to get past that fundamental handicap, the barrier to entry inherent to format.
Awesome video, dude. Really made me more curious about this game. However, here in México, I can only find for sale the base game and not the revised base game you mentioned. Would u recommend me starting with the not revised one anyways?? Me and bf are very into heavy strategy boardgames but have no experience with deck builders.
We will be releasing them in the coming weeks Matyas! Hopefully soon. :) So stay tuned! ^^ In the meantime, the Team Covenant TH-cam channel has some great tutorials on the game.
Great job, I'd change the title of the vid though, as someone who doesn't know ANR exists will have hard time finding this vid, so something like "5 reasons why ANR is best card game".
Was going back and forth on the Title. Lots of issues to consider. The length of the title, using "ANR" instead of the longer but more familiar "Netrunner", etc... Still learning how to clickbait. So you're probably right. ;)
I didn’t realize how much i was missing that outro! I learned to play with you guys, and i will spam the heck out of this video! So.. tutorials? YES PLEASE! More videos to spam! Also trace five representing all the Netrunners community in Europe. I have a question tho: will Putty ever be on the show (even if only as a guest)? It was the first color commentator on the various tournaments I followed on Twc and would be great to have him on board!
Love the video, such high production values, really professionally done. I'd ditch the last two seconds though - they leave kind of a bad taste in my mouth.
I just felt that with such effort going to emphasise how great a game we have, and how welcoming a community - ending with that might put some people off.
"Every card is cheap...." Says someone programmed to believe that $15 is a fine amout to pay for a small deck of cards with a physical production cost of less than $1.00
That's an odd complaint. I mean sure, If you don't count the Game Design as part of the production cost that is indeed how much those cards cost. But if it's the raw paper you're in for you might find a roll of toilet paper will provide the most entertainment for your money. Cheers.
What a wonderful video! I think you hit the nail on the head with many of these reasons. Let's work hard to ensure that the best days of Netrunner is still ahead of us! NISEI is doing a great job so far! (www.nisei.net).
The OG netrunner from the 90s was way better im glad the game made a comeback but as a long team fan of everything cyberpunk making the art and everything all brite and cute is so not cyberpunk the WOTC underst what fans of cyberpunk want most cyberpunks clown on the new art
With all the respect..Why is it so basic to say "HIS" and "dude"? Girls don't play? I do play... I don't even mention that it would be even more gentemen-ish to say "her/his". Anyways it is a good video with a lot of humor in it... :)
Remember when we thought 2017 was a pretty bad year? Those were the days...
This video is a love letter for Netrunner and it's community.
Thanks to you and others youtubers, the run still goes on in my heart.

Would love to. Problem is, it's not sold in my country, and in US$ plus shipping, habdling and taxes it costs, here, around 2/3 of a minimum wage :p

why don't the release a digital version of this game?
There is an unofficial digital version you can play online called Jinteki.net. But also, it's a complex game that works best face to face.
Is nisei a good replacement for netruner?
It is! basically the same game with continued support. You can even mix the Nisei cards with the netrunner ones if you use opaque sleeves

They are the Weyland/Neutral agendas from the Revised Core Set.

You can't satisfy everyone...the montage is just fine...we're all adults here.
That is a fair point, Russell. Thank you for bringing it up!
