    I think the luminal from Luminal Transubstantiation might be more associate with light. Lumen is a measurement of light, and makes a little more sense compared to being a tube. Light becoming mind might be the idea, at least in my interpretation. The internet is made of tubes though....

    • @JonesyJSU
      @JonesyJSU 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I think the idea is that they turn data being transmitted via light into matter or other forms. I assume since it's HB that they're working on moving bioroid consciousnesses into other states or other hosts.

      Also the pillar in the center is a quantum computer, and quantum mechanics is associated with light.

      100% this. The flavour text is even, 'We are the light of tomorrow.'
      ...but maybe the light goes through some sort of tube...

      My understanding is that the famous "let there be light" line is also an example of transubstantiation

    Extraordinary content, I really liked the pieces of lore that you dug up. I think you achieved really well explaining how each card is relevant within system gateway and standard, great job!! I'm enjoying your videos a lot.

    Totally missed the draw a card clause on Nico campaign. Really elevates the card. I think a really interesting decision between it and Marilyn is in jammy HB decks where Nico campaign only hangs out in your remote for 3 turns as opposed to 4. Marilyn is likely better in horizontal decks though.

    • @MetropoleGrid
      @MetropoleGrid  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think I pointed out the 3-turn vs. 4-turn difference enough - that's a really big deal for some of the more 'jammy' decks. Overinstalling a Marilyn never feels awful with the built-in recursion, but it's a bit more difficult when Nico offers a free card if you leave it just a bit longer, eh?

    As one of those completely new players who (for now) has only ordered the System Gateway Starter and Deckbuilding packs, I greatly appreciate you making your videos accessible to newbies.
    NEWBIE QUESTION: Spin Doctor says "Remove this asset from the game...". What are the circumstances that allow or require you do remove the card? Does it automatically happen when you Rez the card?

    • @MetropoleGrid
      @MetropoleGrid  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Anytime you see bolded text/symbols infront of a ':', that's a paid ability. Paid abilities can be fired before or after any players' clicks, during multiple windows throughout a run, as well as during a few additional windows at the beginning and end of turns. That means you have an incredible amount of flexibility when to fire the 'Remove this asset from the game:' paid ability on Spin Doctor. A very common application would be to remove Spin Doctor from the game right before a run on Archives is declared succesful (an Archives which contains some agendas you tossed.) Another option would be to remove Spin Doctor from the game right before a runner makes a successful run on the Spin Doctor, in an attempt to trash it.
      NISEI will soon be releasing their comprehensive 1.5 rules document, but in the meantime, you can check out the run timing chart - nisei.net/players/learn-to-play/run-guide/
      Glad you've been digging the content!

    Okay, it looks like my other comment got deleted (probably because I linked to a tweet in it), but some of the story of Nico Campaign was posted on Twitter. Look up Anzekay (Morgan) on Twitter. The flavor text on Nico Campaign is attributed to Quetzal, but they didn't want to reference an FFG character in Gateway.
    Basically, Nico Campaign is HB "doing a capitalism" on the idea of gender fluidity, hoping to get advertisement traction because of that. They are otherwise fashion models.

    • @Panetierre_
      @Panetierre_ 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I figured they were made for the same purposes as Adonis and Eve bioroids were made for. I read it as HB believing there was a market segment the Adonis and Eve lines were missing and trying to fill that niche.

    • @MetropoleGrid
      @MetropoleGrid  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Firstly, welcome to the game! And yes - rezzing doesn't take a click, so it can be done at just about any paid ability window. It's important to remember that there are paid ability windows before and after each players' clicks, and there's a window at the beginning and end of each players' turns. There's also many, many, paid ability windows during a run. I'm considering putting a video together going over this, as it's something that is quite often missed!

    As a new player I have been enjoying seeing your evaluation and explaination of these cards, it really helps me understand this game a bit better. However there's one card where I don't understand why you rate it this way, and that card is Sprint. In this game where you can spend a click to draw a card, I feel like spending a click for card selection (not drawing cards since you are drawing 3 but putting back 2 and you spent a card for that ability) can be a waste. But that might be because I haven't played that many games yet and I haven't been stuck with too many agendas in hand against a runner who runs HQ, which admittedly seems like a tough place to be. Is it the only kind of situation you are trying to solve with Sprint ?

    • @MetropoleGrid
      @MetropoleGrid  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey MetalBucket! You're definitely right - if you look at Sprint in terms of pure 'card advantage', it's not very good. You're spending a card and a click to draw a card. Yuck. However, Sprint is not really played for 'card advantage', but moreso the powerful filtering and mass draw it provides.
      As you mentioned, using Sprint to fix an HQ flooded with agendas is a very potent effect. Here's a couple examples of other fantastic use cases for Sprint:
      - You're playing a fast advance deck. Your game plan involves drawing a 3/2 agenda, and a fast advance card (something like Biotic Labor), so that you can start scoring. You have a 5/3 agenda in hand, which you have no intentions of scoring. Sprint for the fast advance pieces, and send back the clunker of a 5/3.
      - You're a kill-combo deck. You need to find a 5/3 agenda, and two copies of Neurospike to set up a lethal. Sprint for it.
      - The runner installed a Buzzsaw, and now the Diviner and Whitespace in your hand are looking quite bad. They don't have a Fracter out, so a Palisade might be all you need to score out the agenda waiting in your hand. Sprint for it.
      - The runner can afford to get through your remote. If you could find a copy of the Anoetic Void somewhere in R&D, that'd solve the problem. Sprint for it.
      All of these cases can be reduced to one quick idea - "It quickly gets what you needs, and sends back what you don't". You draw 3 cards, and then return your 2 worst cards. On average, your hand just got a heck of a lot better. It's not card advantage, but quality advantage. That's not bad at all.
      Admittedly, that's quite comparable to another 1-influence card, Predictive Planogram, which simply draws 3 cards. The big difference is how Sprint deals with the inherent risk of mass drawing cards - if you're not ready to deal with agendas, you're inevitably going to have an HQ problem. In theory, largely within the Gateway format, if you filter HQ aggressively with cards like Sprint and Spin Doctor, I'd argue that you could get away with never icing HQ.
      Hopefully that helps arguing Sprint's case. I appreciate you taking the time to ask the question, eh!

      @patrickjsklar8315 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Listen, I don't like to help out other Patricks, but I'll make an exception here.
      First step is make sure you get the Deckbuilding Pack that forms the second half of System Gateway - that's where about half the cards Andrej is describing will be found.
      Assuming you have that (if you bought them both together, or bought the System Gateway Bundle, etc), the next purchase should be System Update 21. This is like a Greatest Hits collection of cards from the first 5ish years of FFG-published Netrunner, before NISEI took over. It has even more cards than System Gateway, and they're almost all excellent, or introduce interesting new strategies (like Fast Advance, where you score agendas on the turn you install them), or introduce new mechanics (bad publicity, brain damage, tracing, bypassing, ambushes in R&D, etc). If System Gateway is a great 2-player board game, System Update is the very first "must-have" expansion.
      After THAT... it's a bit up to you. You can buy the Ashes cycle (Downfall and Uprising), and with all the cards mentioned you'll have the entire cardpool of the Startup format, which is really popular right now on Jinteki.net and is very fun. Alternatively, you could browse Netrunnerdb and find cards or decks you like, and proxy them!

    Manegarm is moon-wolf so it also matches the lunar theme.
    You can fire first Managram, the runner pays and *then* do stuff like Anoetic void to etr, but since it is a paid ability window you can also fire Nisei Mk II or Border Control after they pay (specifically in 4e in new timing structure)

    • @MetropoleGrid
      @MetropoleGrid  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Zombie! I'm not sure that's correct - the last paid ability window to fire Nisei MK II or Border Control is at 4e, but Manegarm triggers when the runner 'approaches the server' during 4f(ii). It's totally true that you can fire Anoetic Void after the runner pays for Manegarm, since they both trigger at 4f(ii), and you can choose the order of your effects that have the same trigger.
      edit: I'm referencing the timing structure posted on NISEI's recent 'Quick Notes About 1.5' article, which is subtly different from the run structure in their 'learn to play guide'. - nisei.net/blog/quick-notes-comprehensive-rules-1-5/
