This is by far the best how to video I have found on copper tubing cutting. I always have a problem with the little cutter not staying in the grove and making a "candy cane".
My dad had one of those cast iron cutters....I got to use it a few times when he had me on the job site.... I'll tell you when the pipe pops you'll know it and as a skinny kid it took all my weight to get the pipe cut....
the one i need to do is cut the pipe below the floor level at 4:00 in this video. but it not PVC it is metal pips that are below the cement floor level out side thy use to be the support polls from the old patio. but now i need to pull out about 6 inches of pip, so i can full it up with cement Not concrete but cement. to match the smooth cement floor. But my problem is that i am using a drill that not very fast spinning. And can not afford a new drill, and battery life is sh*t. i think it will not spin fast enough to cut any thing. But the blade is new it is some kind of black color blade. And i can not use disc grinder because i need to be cutting 6 inch deep and i also do not have a disc grinder
If it is chromed brass like you see in flushometers or exposed drain pipe I like the Ridgid #30 tubing cutters. If there isn't enough space you are looking at a hacksaw or reciprocating saw.
How about brass tube that isn't round but oblong or "D" shaped? Like used in an adjustable hand shower bar that needs to be cut shorter because they plumbed the fixture to where the mount is mounted right in the middle of a mosaic design.
I was hoping to see how to cut that thin 1 1/4" chrome drain pipe under a bathroom sink. The one that goes straight down from the drain in the basin to the p-trap.
If it is chrome plated brass, use a chop saw (miter saw) which has a good carbide blade. Check with a magnet to make sure it is not steel. Wear goggles! NOT just safety glasses. Cut like its cutting a hard 2x4 at half pressure.
I've heard you can use any kind of oil as a cutting oil for threading pipe. Motor oil and soap in place of a cutting oil, even a spray lubricant. If I went and bought a small can of cutting oil for 13.00 when I could of just used WD40, did I just get had?
me in trade school nervous asf right now since nyc doesnt use plastic pipes and we gotta use cast iron, im still struggling to cut them for the right measurements , wish me luck yall :/ i really wanna be a plumber
I wonder if they ever wonder how much money they save us by teaching us how to do home projects that otherwise would cost us hundreds to hire out. Thank you!
Where is your PPE guys? 😧 I was cringing when you were cutting that pipe with a hacksaw so fast and so near to your hand. You would be fired at my job. Safety first!
Is that last one really how you're suppose to cut the big pipe? It didn't even cut it, it BROKE it. Then what? Are you supposed to thread it all jagged and broken like that?
This is by far the best how to video I have found on copper tubing cutting. I always have a problem with the little cutter not staying in the grove and making a "candy cane".
I like videos that show the proper tools for the job. This one covered all the average pipes.
Cast iron part was the best.
Yes it was, now I know something new
NineduceXII "take that grampie!" "....why does he keep mentioning his grandfather..." "LOOK AT ME NOW GRANDPA! OH WAIT, YOU CANT, CUZ YOU'RE DEAD!"
his grandpa is a scumbag
Yes. I just cut cast iron with my sawzall. Thank god for new technology!
@@b.michaelbrown1117 what size was pipe how long did it take and what kind of blade
Got my answer. Thank you guys. You are the best. I’ve watched for many many years.
Just once in my life I need to use one of those cast iron cutters.
Raw Bacon they are really fun to use but scary when you’re just waiting for it to snap 😂
they have new hacksaw / recip saw blades to cut ductile and cast iron now as well.
I was waiting for the cast iron part 🤩
Diamond blade on my angle grinder worked excellently on the cast iron stack in my brother's house
All very informative...but the cast iron cutter ? WOW...what a BEAST.
Just use a Sawzall with the right blade
going "out of round" is caused by tightening too much, good point...thanks...

My god, always brilliant videos. Love it! Love all your videos!!!
Can’t tell y’all how many times I’ve cut cast iron piping of all sizes with a sawzall and thick metal carbide blade, pretty straight cuts too 👍🏼
Yeah every time I've used/seen a snap cutter used it leaves jagged edges
@@JustJanitor not to mention that cutter is ridiculously expensive
Take that, Grampy!
I liked the ridget with the ratchet. I wonder if that cuts conduit?
I really can't explain the sheer excitement in using one of those cast iron cutters because I've never used one.
Take that Gramps, love it
The ratchet cutters work great on new PVC pipe. Old pipe can shatter. It is better to use a reciprocating saw or PVC saw on those.
That cast iron cutter was a monster!
An interesting side use for that tool is rock collectors use them to break geodes in half.
I.Like this Old House
Too funny, “take that, Grammy”. Thank you guys.
what can be used for galvanized??
What’s the name or brand that is self tightening that use to be available in Europe now is available in USA?

Best tool to cut chrome pipe?

I waited for the last tool.

Abrasive disc blade in a Dremel.

Ridgid #30 tubing cutters if there is space.
A pro press with a cast iron snapping attachment makes it quick easy work, But it’s costly.
Nice job

You would use cutting oil if you had a lot of pipe/steel to cut. It has a high temp to resist burning/smoke.
I watched this just for the fun of watching a cast iron pipe cutter.
I watched it for the fun of the pex cutter.
@@nastyhvacr I can understand that. But nothing compares with a cast iron pipe cutter or pouring lead in a bell and thimble joint.
Can't do the job without the right toys.....uh tools.
Thanks

Is there any other way to cut cast pipes?
YES! Carbide blade for reciprocating saw. Costs about $12 on Amazon. Who can spend $2,000 on that monster iron pipe cutter?!
What about ABS pipe?
Same as PVC
You missed one of THE most common pipes! Chrome plated brass supply lines for a sink or for a toilet.
Same cutters as for copper tubing.
Only came to read comments by experts claiming to know far more about pipe cutters than Richard.
thanks tony soprano

I have to use a butter knife, nail file, box cutter and sometimes a soldering iron to cut my PVC pipe. It's only for Nerf mods.
In my mind, I said, "Like Butta" before he did. 🙃
3:54 Like Butta!!!
Europe: we have some nice cutters, US: pshhhh..

Omg why’s his hand so close to the hacksaw 😱 other than that I learned a lot from the video thanks
This is a standard TOOBING cutter

That's not only way to cut cast iron pipe. A Sawzall with metal cutting blade cuts much cleaner.
Take that grampy's
should not the description say first tubing cutter is for copper
It looked like he was expecting a bomb to explode when he was cutting the cast iron
Drama for the safety police.
“Take that granpy”
Why was he in a hurry tomake a cut-I was interested in seeing how much clearance each tool has.
Why did i look this up 😂
cutting steel w sawzall is ballsy if its gas inside

Left out one other way to cut pipe,.... hire a professional! Take that grampy!
Imagine carrying that heavy tool to cut cast iron and then seeing someone else cut it with a Diablo blade with ease lol
