Yeah, he moves and might even be able to run but he is not alive either. He is dead, even though he lives. You can give him the biggest salary in the world, but he is not his old self. I hope this sort of explains the perspective people kinda have when saying "its dead even though its successful". Another example would be teen titans fans talking about teen titans go. Nintendo and The Pokemon company are more of Viacom/Paramount and Warner Brothers, not so much Disney. When I mean Warner brothers, I mean when they have a new idea, and it succeeds and makes soo much profit, that they start to care less about what the customer wants. That's what Warner Brothers does most of the time (Although I can be wrong, despite Pokemon movies being distributed by Warner Brothers themselves so, yeah, I don't like Warner Brothers or Viacom at all). And Viacom, Nintendo just takes down anything they don't think is considered fair use, similar to what Viacom does when they take down Spongebob content posted by users without permission.
So I do think, upon rethinking, that it's more of a mashup between Warner Brothers and Paramount. And remember

Black and White and their sequels had actual story that made real statements about moral quandaries. The only other pokemon games that managed that was ruby and sapphire (emerald did so to a lesser extent, but actually missed the landing with how it handled the middle ground). But yeah, most pokemon games lacked a meaningful narrative.
Oh, Gen two had a narrative that handled the successors of Gen one very nicely, giovanni's son as a rival to a gym leaders child made for meaningful character arcs.
But the character arcs in gens seven and eight? You are the douchey rival and the story has more impact if you are the villainous rival, as there isn't much more story than the lore for legendary pokemon. At least Alola had short story arcs for the trial captains, but it lacked most impact outside of team skull and the dark-type island challenge you truly were the rival-douche to team skull for much of your island challenge. I don't think gen 8 gave any reason to care about any gym leader, except maybe Bede..? But no, it expressly gave reasons to not care about Bede.

Even season one of the anime was willing to show abusive trainers! In Gen 5, the whole moral dilemma turns into nothing. Training Pokemon is always great and all trainers love their Pokemon, no problems there. The Pokemon world absolutely doesn't need a Royal Society for the Protection of Pokemon, I guess. Level 5, put *SO* much content and hidden details in their games and always found something to improve on, especially for Yokai Watch 3, but people disregarded it because "It's bootleg Pokemon" or "It's not pokemon. On the other hand, while Yokai Watch is a good game, it might have failed to capture the western audience due to its lack of community. In school, the only people that I could really talk to games about were Pokemon fans. Most of the fans of Yokai Watch I knew were either online or just lying to seem cooler.

In my opinion, the most prominent feature of Yokai Watch was it's cute, quirky, and mysterious style and Yokai Watch 4 wasn't any of that. It brought a more mature grotesque style that very little of it's fanbase domestically or internationally liked. Sadly, I don't think we will ever see Yokai Watch because of how badly Yokai Watch 4 flopped in Japan.

First off, it's best to do the research. You still weren't correct about Genius Sonority. Genius Sonority was still developing games, with their recent title being Pokemon Cafe Mix.
You complained about monsters fusion in Dragon Quest makes you feel less attached to the monsters. Yet you didn't seem to know that Shin Megami Tenshi and Persona have that system as well, which were incredibly successful games. Pokemon also has Fusion, just that it's been restricted to a certain Legendary Pokemon.
You complained about Pokemon is infamous for being easily one-shotted and sweepers are thriving (though more so in Singles) and then you proceed to complain about Tanks being difficult to be KO? Isn't that contradictory? Also, Palossand is a terrible example to make because it's nothing more of a gimmick in Doubles where even novice players could see it coming and easily prevent it.
I don't understand why you have to specifically cover Temtem when you haven't played the game. There are other monster-collecting RPGs for PC out there, why not something else like Nexomon or Monster's Crown instead? As for my opinion of Temtem, I initially liked it but I ended up disliking it over the way it's executing and being too grindy for its worth.

They’re on PS4 but a complete edition was released on Switch about a year ago that contains both games. Enjoyable story, good OST, great designs and some challenging boss fights - even on normal difficulty. My reaction to the first game: This is a good game. Not on the same level as Persona 5 ore Final Fantasy X but very enjoyable.
My reaction to "a Hackers Memory": Holy shit this is awsome.
Meybe its becuse I got a better hand of the System ore meybe becuse nostalgia hit me (I love the anime), I am not sure why but I really enjoyed a Hackers Memory. It has a griping story with lovable characters (Erika and Wormon are awsome. I love them), a satisfying progresion system, and challanging but fun fights. I remember that story fight with Omnimon. I though it was going to be easy but then it became a by the skin of my teeth victory. Since I like Omnimon as a character it was actully kinda satisfying seing it almost completly obliterating my team of 11 bad ass Mega Digimon. At the end only 2 where left standing one with only 1 HP left.
It was an awsome fight. Music is good too. I like how the Royal knight theme works both as a hero and as a villain theme.
I also enjoyed the presentation. I really enjoyed that cyberspace world more then I expectet and the animations of the Digimon I liked a lot to. My only real complain is there is no music in the real world.

Yu-Gi-Oh!'s gimmicks aren't as much gimmicks. It needs to evolve in some way and introduces new monster types and styles. Some of them work and some don't (Links were a mistake). The problem with Pokémon is that it doesn't expand them beyond the game that concept is in. Fusions in Yu-Gi-Oh! Have been there since the Duel Monsters and it's still evolving. Mega Evolutions stopped getting used afyer ORAS and Sun/Moon added them as a post game thing because they wanted to do shotry Z Moves. Gen 8 conpletely ditches both. Yi-Gi-Oh! Hasn't ditched any of the major Monster types ibtroduced each new Gen (Fusions, Synchros, XYZs, and Pendulums are all still relevant in one way or another in this Link era. Played since the beginning. Generation 5 is my favorite. The graphics, areas, story, & designs. Gen 6 had so much potential then they pushed Sun & Moon & it was downhill from there. I think they don’t need a new generation or gimmicks. They need to put multiple regions together, like put sinnoh & unova to use the underground tunnel and spread out the gyms through 2 regions. Stick with mega evolutions, make a T rated game, make a good story, let your trainer be an adult have a home to decorate. & have so many Pokémon in the games. Let the Pokémon follow you around. Instead of choosing 3 from a starter, change the types you can pick. Also have the professor not be so needy, make the series more mature and reuse the old assests to make new adventures.

Take 1-2 year breaks between releasing games so that each game gets a proper development
Let the studio that made the stadium and coliseum games do the animations
Make an immersive story that people care about
Make the rival a jerk who’s always either trying to one up you or is always one uping you so you feel the need to be better
    Make the game harder
Don’t hold our hand after 20 minutes or give us an “experienced player” option
    Make all environments 3D
Let us use our imagination again
Don’t give us easy ways to level up our pokemon, it should feel rewarding to level up after a battle
Either bring back Mega evolution or dont give us a gimmick

    "It looked too kiddy."
The main character canonically dies horribly. Several characters do. Also the seven circles of hell are a relevant location in this game. The story is way darker than you would think. You really can't judge Yo-Kai Watch by appearance.
I also love how people that have never actually played the game think "auto attacks=no strategy". Nitro Rad went into depth on this. The skill revolves a ton around teambuilding and accounting for things like redirection, tank support, debuff and buff management, healers, attitude adjustment, boss pattern recognition, etc. It's easily a way deeper and more challenging game than Pokemon dedpite the auto attack system, honestly and its competitive format is way more balanced to boot. In fact, one of my friends whom is an avid Pokemon fan and shiny hunter admitted to me he dropped the game because it was too difficult and complex for him. The guy even plays Persona and Shin Megami Tensei games are not known for being easy.
Plus, Yo-Kai Watch games are WAY bigger and more open than Pokemon games and the story is well written. Even if you don't care about the story, Yo-Kai Watch makes it so its story cutscenes and dialogue are skippable so you can get back to the game. That's certainly more than Pokemon ever did.
Please do more research or actually play a game if you're going to talk about it.

I think we all know what will happen at that point.
It's just this one simple fight (along with some others) that makes Yo-kai Watch stand out from the other games I have played. I'm doing a playthrough of the game right now and a decent amount of the bosses get close to destroying my team.
For example, Duwheel can be fought at watch rank A, but if you do you'll probably end up in the same boat as me with my team dying left and right. Of course I still won, but it was the hardest boss I encountered at the time. I like that Yo-kai Watch feels less hand-holdy than other games, since they are fine with just dropping you into a fight you might not be able to beat, and even when you can beat them it still feels like a challenge with how much you have to keep on top of.

@@FirstNameLastName-wg8ld Well said. Yo-Kai Watch expects the player to learn that at their own pace as they get better and progress at the game. Pokemon is just such a shallow game compared to any other monster collector but because it's so simple to understand, people that play Pokemon and nothing else are somehow convinced it's deeper than it actually is.

    • @FirstNameLastName-wg8ld
      @FirstNameLastName-wg8ld 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Almost every title I found was really shallow, bad, or just not something I was interested in. Only about a week or so ago, I found out that the Nintendo Switch isn't region-locked and then I remembered that the fourth game was out in Japan so I ordered the game and for the time that I was waiting for it I went back and played the first game, and I never realized how much the battle system has to offer.
In just the first 5 hours I got hooked and already put 27 hours into it on a new save file, and I can't remember a single time I was bored. Just the feeling of having to build this team and then get used to each character makes me love how the battle system was designed. For example, playing with a Shogunyan is different from playing with a Komane. One has a skill that gives critical attack more power, one has a skill that makes him more powerful when teamed up with his brother. One used physical attacks, another uses elemental. All of these different characters come together to allow you to build almost any team you can think of, which is why I loved playing it before, and why I love playing it now.

I think you're holding onto the pokemon formula too hard. No one needs evolution or type charts. At the core these are just RPGs and they have their own methods for achieving a certain style of gameplay. I think you may be too focused on games being exactly like pokemon because you want to replace what the games no longer have instead of accepting these new worlds have their own rules and want to be unique instead of just more of the same shit as you argued is what made you give up on pokemon

The basoc Pokémon formula is monsters you acauore somehow that can (but not a necessity) evolve (look at Fossil Fighters 1) and have some sort of type system, and turn-based battles. That's the extent of the formula. A really good game can be made with it. Like Fossil Fighters.
Without types and catching monsters it's not a Pokémon style RPG. That's just how it is

For me the game that comes closest to older Pokemon games is Digimon World 1. Great adventure (exploration is a big part of this game), great storyline and quests, it's hard to get ultra digimon at first but the more progress you make in the game the easier it gets. Another thing I really enjoy about Digimon World 1 is that besides the basic storyline and quests you have to train your digimon and need to go battle technique hunting with each Digimon being able to only use certain battle techniques of the types they belong to. It gives you a really long playtime and it is super hard to finish the game on 100% (incl. having trained every available digimon, which are 40 + all need to have certain different stats, happiness and discipline levels to be obtained and having all the battle techniques, which is the hard part since there are some techs that can only be learned from certain boss monster fights). It also has good replay value since every adventure will be different depending on the starter digimon you choose and it's first digivolution.
If you're looking for a game to play during lockdown times I can only highly recommend you Digimon World 1.

I was really disappointed with Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Ultra Moon in my opinion despite having less content Pokemon Moon was actually better. I don't really know why everytime Nintendo remake a game with more features they have to make the main characters from the original less important or less interesting. I liked Lily when she was the main character and her mother when she was fucking psycho. Why they changed that for some hoping world mechanic I can barely follow I don't understand. The surfing mini game was fun but even that technically interrupted the flow of the original story. Pokemon Sword meanwhile is too gimmicky and nothing really happens, also the gigantism is kind of a dumb gimmick I feel like the should have just done more mega-evolution and regional variants. Also I hate how they run the series like a toy franchise and keep getting rid of features the are find. Like patting the Pokemon was great last gen and letting Pokemon physically follow you back in Pokemon yellow or ride on your head in go is brilliant. I honestly think the best mini games and features have always been things like unique battle rotations and things that let you interact with your Pokemon or Pokemon in the overworld more. You know things that feed into the premise of being a Pokemon trainer. The second are the travel features things like unique cities or interesting npcs or stuff that makes your character interact well with the world such as the scent bed gimmick in Moon or answering N in Black and White. The third thing that's really important that I think Nintendo have been neglecting for awhile is difficulty. I'm not saying make it dark souls levels of difficult but it's a real turn off for nostalgic players that most fights are so easy.

Although the two mistakes GameFreak made with SWSH in regards to difficulty where a) making the EXP share not turn off & b) the biggest one being you could go to Raid Dens so early on in the game, join & beat a few raids to get EXP candy to ridiculously over level your party. Pokémon has been on a steady decline since Gen 6 onwards, and some might argue since Gen 4 onwards. The games have always had sub-par stories, but that wasn't the game's main draw. That's why they've been getting worse and worse over the years, because the stories are the same, but they're just more in your face about it. I was a massive fan since the 1st game, and I love coming back to Gen 2 or 3 now and then and enjoy many romhacks, but playing Gen 8 was an absolute slog to get thru because of how restrictive and handholding they were.

Yu-Gi-Oh's issue is its game is reaching feature creeping to where now all matches must end on speed and less strategy.
