My absolute favorite bit of competitive pokemon lore is that Dusknoir's ONLY competitive impact is that him existing lets Dusclops hold Evolite, and that's about it, he's almost always worse than his pre-evolution
Technically, Dusknoir is decent in Little Galar Cup in Pokémon GO, but even then you want Duskull instead. Shadow Dusknoir’s niche is that it deletes some Psychic types (especially Bronzor if played correctly), some Ghost types, and is generally hard-hitting damage, but even then you’d use Duskull over Dusknoir there, so the actual funny thing is that Dusknoir is usable in a tier. And that aside, you would also prefer Galarian Yamask, Pumpkaboo, or Drifloon to any of the Duskull line.
@angelmatesmolan Fr I was hoping chandelure would be in the vid . Like if ur not gonna put it in the list put it in the honorable mentions list atleast
Not mentioned, but the stance switching of aegislash is actually better than it looks as it actually makes it's slowness work for it: When it is in shield forme, by being slow it remains in shield forme until everyone else has attacked, then switch to sword forme to attack. While in sword forme, as king's guard is a priority move it lets aegislash switch back to shield forme before anyone else attacks.

To be fair, 4/6 stats are useless on shedinja (well 3/6 if you want to run special moves for some reason) so it's not that weird for the second highest to be one of the useless ones
@@jblenThe entire reason health is useless is because it's so low, and the only reason you don't use Shedinja as a special attacker is because it has low special attack (idk it's movepool), so in reality it's more like only 2/6 of it's stats are useless because of it's gimmick, which yeah. It IS weird one of those is so high, especially since defense can't even reduce damage to 0 since Gen 1, and Shedinja was never in Gen 1 to begin with.
@@manologamerss5801 are you saying that hp and sp.A aren't useless? Hp being low is part of the gimmick that makes Def/sp.d useless so you can't separate it and say it's a useful stat, because if there were some situation that it was useful, then Def and sp.D would also become useful

These video’s are very interesting for me as a singles player. Hearing things from the perspective of a doubles player is cool these lists would probably look a little different if someone did them for singles. Like he says M-Sableye was never good but in singles it had to get banned from OU.
I've never been a competitive player, but I've played Pokémon all 25 years of my life, and I knew I had to hear driftblim. Since Gen IV, he has been a staple for the sheer variety of moves they can learn. Stats built to make it a really comfortable way to start any battle. In a Restricted format you only get 1 or 2 of the strongest mons in the game and using one of those slots on a bulky wall that can largely be ignored is just not a good choice, and so people largely just don't bother. You see it on ladder sometimes but Giratina hasn't put up many results in tournaments at all
24:30 Bro did not just say fluttermane is one of the best designed pokemon ever. I get what he's trying to say. But the reason Flutter can be used in so many ways is because it's movepool is insane. It has great coverage moves that you dont even see because it just muscles through most things with its offenses and typing. Fluttermane has 1 and only 1 weakness, physical bulk. Most pokemon have more than 1 weakness. Look at a pokemon like Zapdos. If you literally just swapped the movepool of Zapdos and Fluttermane, Zapdos would probably be better(at least as a support pokemon) despite not having a single flying type attack.
In formats where Giratina is legal, you are making a conscious choice not to run something like Calyrex or Lunala just to stay exclusive to ghost type mons. Sure this eventually runs back to the argument of using your favorite vs the best pokemon but the results are resulting, Giratina may not seem bad in a vacuum but in context it's just never the best choice
2:15 Tera Shedinja *did* ruin the game on the Showdown-only National Dex Anything Goes format which lets you use Dexited Pokemon and moves. Or rather, it would have ruined the game had Revival Blessing Liepard not ruined it first.
I swear I asked for ghost when you asked for type suggestions. Probably well after you already started making this one. So hyped to watch the video. I think rock would have a surprising amount of representation to go over.
Before I clicked this video: It's Jenjar. It's almost always been great. Very few moments in the last twenty years have we thought, "I need a Ghost type" and not thought of Jenjar immediatly. Very few moments have we thought, "I need a Pokemon that's immune to Fake Out" and not thought... "Jenjar." Almost never have we thought, "I need a Shadow Ball user" and not instantly gone... "JENJAR!". Also, @1:41 Incineroar in a Wolfey video.
They better give Gengar levitate back!!! Its such a signature ability of him.... Really hated people saying "but he stands on the ground". Yeah he can walk! But he floats most of the time, most strategy in the anime, is around his levitation also in LA he floats when you use him on water 😉
It's from this one short animation that was posted by the official pokemon channel. I remember watching it but the title was completely in Japanese as far as I rememebr.
Finally a video from any given VGC content creator that doesn't needlessly try to bash Flutter Mane or give it backhanded compliments for being broken. Breath of fresh air, honestly.
Pokemon X/Y was my first pokemon game, and I still have a special place in my heart for Aegislash, because Honedge carried me through the fighting gym (back when I thought just spamming water shuriken at everything from Greninja would get me wins, only for that to nearly get me wiped by Hawlucha), and subsequently the rest of the game. It was later that I learned that Aegislash was unbelievably busted back then.
Quant could actually be an interesting move, although I don’t know how exactly it would work. The word quant is the root word of ‘quantum’, which itself comes from ‘quantifiable’, meaning that there are discrete levels of energy that you can’t have values between. I could see it as a niche form of protect, where it only lets damage through if it’s divisible by ten, or something similar once some level of playtesting/code checking to make sure it’s usable has gone through.
For anyone interested, it takes 101 seconds for incineroar to appear in a video about d̶r̶a̶g̶o̶n̶ ghost type pokemon.

Me: Giratina?
Wolfey: Gengar
Me: wait wha-
Because Giratina is restricted, and there a bunch of better restricted mon
In formats where Giratina is legal, you are making a conscious choice not to run something like Calyrex or Lunala just to stay exclusive to ghost type mons. Sure this eventually runs back to the argument of using your favorite vs the best pokemon but the results are resulting, Giratina may not seem bad in a vacuum but in context it's just never the best choice
giratina is quite easily one of the worst restricted pokemon in vgc
Thanks guys i know, my favorite did actually end up in this list, Aegislash.
This being recorded in May, wow. What an impressive amount of work...
dragon type in the title!??
Here when it was still called what is the best dragon type Pokémon
terra ghost incineroar
Before I clicked this video: It's Jenjar. It's almost always been great. Very few moments in the last twenty years have we thought, "I need a Ghost type" and not thought of Jenjar immediatly. Very few moments have we thought, "I need a Pokemon that's immune to Fake Out" and not thought... "Jenjar." Almost never have we thought, "I need a Shadow Ball user" and not instantly gone... "JENJAR!".
Also, @1:41 Incineroar in a Wolfey video.
13:00 Damn, I did not expect the FFXIV aggro sound effect to show up in in Wolfey's Pokemon videos :D
ah yes my favourite dragon type, shedinja
A Tera-ghost Torracat named Gaspar with an everstone.
and a person named mindy trades it to you
They better give Gengar levitate back!!! Its such a signature ability of him.... Really hated people saying "but he stands on the ground". Yeah he can walk! But he floats most of the time, most strategy in the anime, is around his levitation also in LA he floats when you use him on water 😉
Its so cool seeing how some of my favourites based purely on how cool they are are actually really good competitively
God I know you get this all the time but your editor(s) are just so good. Genuinely maybe the best on TH-cam
Anyone know where the clip at 00:38 is from?
It's from this one short animation that was posted by the official pokemon channel. I remember watching it but the title was completely in Japanese as far as I rememebr.
@peke100 its the short called “help ive turned into a gengar”

Finally a video from any given VGC content creator that doesn't needlessly try to bash Flutter Mane or give it backhanded compliments for being broken. Breath of fresh air, honestly.
These aren’t dragons
I thought I was crazy! Did it change??
Dragapult is.
It was later that I learned that Aegislash was unbelievably busted back then.
water shuriken is one of the worst moves in gen 6 becayse its physical instead of special lmao
