❤ found you today, we have an 11-year-old Feist mix that looks a lot like your dogs. Considering adopting a 2-year-old basenji. Nervous but excited and these have been very helpful thank you! 💗
Ha ha, Ipy is so obsessed with food, because she was on a diet for a long time, so I thought it would be very challenging to shift her focus from food to the task. But to my surprise she manages to control herself pretty well!
Can you please do a video with advice on how to stop nipping/biting? I feel as if nothing I am doing is curbing this behavior. He is 3 months old. Please help. Thanks!!
I feel for you, 3 months is the worst puppy biting time. I don't have a puppy to show in a video, but here are some thoughts. This is just a stage that will pass, very soon. its a very normal behaviour for the puppy. But you can still try to make it easier for the family: - always play with puppy with toys, never hands. hold a toy in each hand and encourge puppy to bite the toy - after active play time, do some quiet games with food. usually when food is around puppy concentrates on food instead and you can do some very simple training with food, this will make him think and concentrate, and understand that there are other ways to communicate with you rather than biting - never scare/scold the puppy for biting. make a high pitch scream and disengage from interaction - have a playpen where you can keep the puppy restrained and away from you or other family members to stop the biting - ensure puppy has nap / rest times often, like every 1-2hours, in a safe quiet area. overstimulated/tired puppies will just bite nonstop. Hold on there, puppies grow very fast, even if you do nothing this will pass on its own soon. and even if you do everything possible, you still wont rid of puppy biting completely 😊
@@oringomakenabasenjitrainin6407 thank you so much!! Your videos have been so helpful to me on my journey with my basenji boy!! I appreciate the advice! We are planning on getting a second puppy as a companion for him. Any tips on how long they should be separated?
@@mariahhr when raising two puppies its important to give them individual attention. The golden advice is to wait when your first dog is 1yo and then get the second one. But either way, you will need to ensure you spend quality time and training with each one separately every day, including at least one individual walk per day and individual play. They also need to be able to spend time alone independently. So, its a lot of work, pretty much double the effort, at least initially during first year. I would say a min. of 2 hrs a day puppies should be separated.
This also shows how good she is at looking where you point, to reference a previous video. She's such a good girl!
she is, a very clever girl 😊

Thank you! and good luck with your future basenji if you do deside to adopt one 😀
Hello, great idea for training, I think I have to wait with Hugo because he would clean up the treats first and then go to work. Regards 😂
