  • In this video I will be walking you through the setup and assembly of the Creality Ender 7 3D printer! I will provide you with tips and suggestions along the way that you will not find in the user manual, and also take you through my slicer settings to get you the best print results avoiding frustration!
    Thank you to Mech Solutions for providing me with this printer! If you haven't yet purchased your Creality Ender 7, head over to:

    The Creality Ender 7 is marketed as a printer built for speed. Although this appears to be the case based on the CoreXY motion system, large XY stepper motors and drivers, and high flow rate hot end, it seems to fall short of the advertised 250mm/s print speed. And this is simply due to the fact that Creality has very conservative machine limit settings in the firmware. The printer simply cannot accelerate fast enough with those settings to cut down on print time for small prints.
    This can easily be changed and you can get the printer moving quite a bit faster without any further modifications out of the box. Overall, you can get very respectable print quality at ~80mm/s external perimeters, and 125mm/s speeds for internal features. This is still better than most other consumer grade printers on the market today.
    With a large enough print, you can get the print head moving up to 250mm/s and the extruder/hot end combination will keep up, but don't expect exceptional quality of your print surfaces at this speed.
    When attempting to run very high speeds and accelerations, I noticed that quality is lost on sharp corners (as one would expect) and the printer would greatly benefit from some advanced compensation techniques like linear / pressure advance.
    The Z motion system also leaves something to be desired as it is fully cantilevered and the free end of the bed support sags. The adjustment screws and knobs will allow you to properly level the print bed, but it is very evident that you have to unscrew the front knobs much more to compensate. The use of V-wheels on the cantilevered Z motion system was also a questionable design choice. Despite all of this, the printer still manages to make very nice prints and there are no Z artifacts surprisingly.
    In future videos I plan to address several of the Creality Ender 7 shortcomings. Namely, I have already designed and prototyped a 3 point linear rod and lead screw system for this printer to eliminate the bed sag and increase the lateral stability of the print bed. After that, I will be installing Klipper and trying to do a more advanced tune and control for this printer in hopes of achieving much higher speeds while maintaining quality. Perhaps a direct drive extruder and hot end are also in the works!
    Overall, the Creality Ender 7 is a well built machine with a lot of potential. There are some issues that need to be addressed but stick with me and we will get this printer flying!

    Very well made video, as usual! The only thing about Creality´s new machines is that most maintaining and/or customizing of their printer´s seems to be pretty challenging or unwanted sometimes. Especially looking at that CR-10 Smart. I canˋt really tell if that is going to be a problem for this printer too, but I would say Crealityˋs designing-team sacrifices these things just for the looks of their printers. :D

    • @EmbraceMaking

      Thank you! This is definitely a unique machine but not impossible to mod! I think the nice thing about this machine is that it is about 75% of the way to being something really great. Other Creality machines I've used probably start down around 50% and you have to modify the other 50% to get a fantastic machine. This one is almost there out of the box and I have some videos coming up to show you how to make it great!

    I love my Ender 7 but I have some questions. What is the speed setting that you access from the print screen? Are the units mm/sec or percent? What changes should I make to print TPU?

    • @EmbraceMaking
      @EmbraceMaking  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Tim, sorry maybe I am not fully understanding the speed setting from the print screen? If you are talking about the "on-the-fly" adjustments, yes those are a percent. For TPU are you asking about slicer changes or actual hardware changes to the printer?

    Has anyone had trouble with the home settings after levelling? ( The limiting nut is secure on the Z-axis) I've levelled this thing multiple times and the x level is always off by up to 2 m, which is the difference between a perfect level and grinding into the bed..

    • @EmbraceMaking
      @EmbraceMaking  ปีที่แล้ว

      Did you get this figured out? There is quite a bit of adjustment in the z axis bumper, you shouldn't have issues with the nozzle hitting the print bed

    Can I drop that G Code into the Creality Slicer or will that only work in Pusa Slicer?? Any thoughts on doing Klipper on the Ender 7?

    • @EmbraceMaking
      @EmbraceMaking  ปีที่แล้ว

      Haven't tried the Creality slicer but it is basically Cura... I think Cura mostly defaults to relative extrusion distance and Prusaslicer does absolute (or vice versa, can't remember off the top of my head). So in any custom start Gcode you should make sure the extrusion type is the right one for the rest of your gcode.

      Check for intermittent power connection... sounds like a loose wire... Look in your electronics enclosure and see if anything looks loose or if you see any power connections that perhaps have been sparking.

    I have had the Ender 7 for about 3 weeks. I can't get a single design to print properly. There is MAJOR layer shift, in that each separate layer seems to walk several mm each time the new layer starts so that each design comes out as a rather flat, long piece of nothing. I've tried all of the layer troubleshooting I could find, but I'm wondering if there is a known issue that I simply can't find online or an easy fix.
    Anyone have a layer walking issue right out of the box? Anyone successful in fixing this?
    I've used Prusa, Creality slicers and a variety of design sources. I can't even get the CR leveling bracket to print properly.

    • @EmbraceMaking
      @EmbraceMaking  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Is there any resistance on your z axis? Almost seems like the z isn't moving properly and its causing the next layer to crash over and over. Any weird noises on the z when you jog the axis?

    • @rongreenfield5829
      @rongreenfield5829 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@EmbraceMaking I'm almost embarrassed to reply, and I haven't quite solved the problem. Maybe someone has the solution. The original layer shift was mostly on the x axis moving in a y back to z direction. This was, it seems, caused by the rigidity and pull of the hard plastic sleeve that holds the wires from the frame to the hot end. I had almost given up and then I held the sleeve a bit and things stopped moving as much. I then loosened the sleeve from the frame unscrewed it a bit from the hot end. This removed a tremendous amount of layer shift. The rigidity is still a slight problem because although the prints are getting better, they are now shifting in the opposite direction, not in an XY direction, but only the Y direction, due it seems, to the remaining rigidity of the wire sleeve.
      How do I make the wire sleeve push/pull neutral or counter that push/pull as I can't just remove the sleeve and let the wires hand down onto the bed? Tighten the belts? Which ones and how much? They seem pretty tight as it is.
      Also, thanks for offering help. Maybe someone else will also find the plastic sleeve to be too rigid as well.
