Hasbro/WotC will never be happy selling game books. I think there’s a belief that D&D can become Monopoly Go and generate billions without the same overhead and logistical concerns. Whatever Hasbro has in mind for D&D, it seems clear that it will involve a transformation into something else.
they want it too be a brand they can merchandise and sell to some sweatshop in china to make cheap crap for, the VTT is vaporware and a holdout idea from the 4e days, they don't wanna spend the money to get the expertise software development costs.
Interesting to look at their earnings. Blowing the 50th anniversary hype is a bad sign, marketing-wise. As you say, well-made cuts can be tending the corporate vine, but what cuts they made matters.
I was going to make some suggestions for topics on which to dedicate future Pundit Files, but do you have some sort of polling mechanism for that sort of thing?
I'm fairly sure part of the strategy to make more money was to replace the OGL and establish another revenue stream there. Cynthia probably bet on that happening.
I've said in multiple videos that removing the OGL was the lynchpin of their whole plan; and when they were forced to reverse course on that, there was no viable alternative.
This has definitely been noticable that there is a toy apocalypse going on. It's really pitiful that the people making these toys are only thinking about collectability. Back in the seventies and eighties the toys us nerdy kids liked were 3 1/2 inch action figures. You could mix and match. Now the toys are all different scales and on top of that the prices are ridiculous. I mean the D&D figures at clearance rates are still too high for most people to buy. Here is my video commentary on it from 4 months ago. th-cam.com/video/eT5KyksDi04/w-d-xo.htmlsi=KaNd2V4FwSsxMSnR
@@RPGPundit I'm a Marketing guy, by education. So, packaging is 70% of a sale with me. You had my money as soon as that cover art was released into the wild.
Baptism of Fire looks pretty good. I didn't catch it live but did watch the live stream yesterday and was really impressed with the art and the Polish history. As I already own some of your books I know what to expect so going to snag a print copy soon as I have the scratch. On the WotC subject, let em rot. I mean if people really, really want to play D&D get yourself a $5 copy of WhiteBox and house rule the crap out of it like we did back in the 80's. Though more expensive Lion & Dragon has a lot of meat to work with for an awesome campaign. Seriously, there are many great alternatives to wotc's offerings: Lion & Dragon, whiteBox, Basic Fantasy, OSE, and Worlds Without Number just to name a few. Be smart with your dollars and buy better games (From better people).
Because you have a later printing. WotC removed the credit from all the Consultants during the Zak S controversy, to avoid getting sued for just erasing him.
W.o.t.C need an overhaul, The woke nonsense clearly isn't working. The books they put it are ridiculously bad, The OGL debacle screwed them. The film was another screw up. Do think they have set D&D to push agendas, rather than releasing, anything worth while. This D&D 6e concept is going to annoy folks big time. Do think that's going to be another 4E. Plenty of folks are happy sticking with 5E. D&D is Done & Dusted.
Most of woke companies are doing poorly not only because of wokeness but also from poor management. Lucasfilm with all of overbudget problems and making movies at insane speed, the same with Marvel Cinematic Universe, also Games Workshop has terrible problems with meet the demand from third party shops on the main markets. And I wonder if they have too much diversity hires not only in division with are making games (not to mention the PR divisions).
Maybe Meatball doesn't care about WotC? A true OSR enthusiast. 👍
Maybe. But she does have to consider her investment portfolio.
You talked me into the Pundent Files book - I love it - thanks! Needed Horse and Jousting rules for our own homebrew.
I'm sure you're going to find it really useful, then!
Down 5%? 🎉🥳Let's get those numbers up!
There's a lot further they can fall...

Well, at the moment the "something else" will be an online VTT game, but that depends if they can actually pull it off.

Moar Meatball!

I hope the jousting is selling well as I’m the one that originally harassed you for it! I personally think it’s outstanding and everyone should buy it
I'm very glad you liked it. Spread the word, share the video!

I don't really have a polling mechanism, but I'm always open to suggestions.
Yeah, cats like to knock things down.

Its a company IN recovery.

@RPGPundit you are wise beyond your years. Or ears. I'm not sure. Whatever it is, it's impressive.
My hardcover of Lion & Dragon arrived today! 😀
Awesome! Thank you.

You say you work on dnd 5e. Me check. Check credits. Your name not there. Why?
Because you have a later printing. WotC removed the credit from all the Consultants during the Zak S controversy, to avoid getting sued for just erasing him.
Wizards books are crap, that’s why we are not buying them. Simple really.
Yes, it's definitely that.
