Welcome to Addis. I hope your time here will be safe and memorable. But a little alertness is needed to avoid those who snatch mobile and other valuable stuff using motorbikes. Especially take care when you see two individuals in a motorbike around you. I gave you this information in order to make your stay at Addis is free of any negative memory. We have a bunch of religious and cultural holidays mix yourselves with the local people to get the best out of them. Enjoy your time. May GOD Bless your stay.

I'm an Eritrean who spent a month for vacation there. Ethiopians are overwhelmingly one of the most, if not the most friendly and humble people you'll come across in your travels. I mean they are just generally decent to their core. I felt I can live in Addis. Just be aware of your surroundings especially in market areas for thieves and pick pockets snatching phones and purses. It's to be expected in a society where there is huge unemployment and no social safety nets. In fact i would say, its the decency and fear of God of the people that's keeping worse than petty theft crimes from occuring in a city of 7 million. Cheers!
