ABOUT US & OUR CHANNEL
We are a expats and a typical black American family living and teaching abroad in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. We were born and raised in California but spent most of our adult life in Atlanta, GA where we met at Spelman and Morehouse College.
A few years ago we left our jobs teaching in the United States for a life abroad in Honduras which started our journey. Our channel has 2 goals which have shifted over time:
1. To show black families and people of color what a life abroad could look like.
2. To show the beauty in all countries

I'm thinking of working at the school that you worked at while living there, as well as sending my 6-year-old son. Would you recommend it? So far the interview process has been very lovely, but I'm a little concerned about the lack of diversity at the school as the rest of Honduras seems quite diverse.

Interested in knowing who makes the distinction between expats and foreigners based on skin color? I've never heard that anywhere. I live in inner-city Cleveland and have usually felt way more safe in other countries, including C. America than I do in a big city in the US. Of course, as you say, it's very much about common sense and discernment. Happy to have found your channel. I've driven from the East Coast of the US all the way to Belize and Guatemala and also down the Baja Peninsula. Thinking about driving from the Midwest to Costa Rica next. Thanks for sharing the message about not adding to the fear being spread by people who often don't even know what they are talking about.

I disagree about Dominican not being black. But i view black as a race and phenotype, and even cultural nuances. My family is from Honduras, Garifuna, and they consider themselves as black, african decent. This would be like saying you have no ties with Ethiopians (from your recent content). Curtally different, but racially similar/same

I guess if Dominicans view being called Black as talking away from their unique cultural.... the yyyyeeaah! I get that.

Hi there! I really enjoy watching your vlog. However, I would like to suggest that you be cautious when filming videos at school, as some parents may have privacy concerns. I believe the school also has strict policies regarding this issue. Other than that, your videos are very interesting! I’m glad to see that you and your family are having a great time in Ethiopia. That is a great question! Actually it is just an elective. There are 3 language option at the school Amharic, French, and Spanish. In the elementary students take Amharic and French. In middle school is when Spanish is first offered but they can take 1 of the other 2 if they wish.

You are a pioneer for African American, Ethiopia has always been great for people that are not born there, but all of them were white, enjoy it, it is your land. For me I cried for two weeks, kissed the land and USA is my home and I am grateful, however it gives me joy to see Ethiopia grow. Yes the rich have always had it good until some movement pushes them out, then like animal farm, it switches. I pray that the poor will be taken care of, who are the majority!
