I switch to Duluth Trading overalls easy fix. Or look into the long tail tees, that might be a good bandaid. If nothing else, throw on the occasional temporary tramp stamp. Keep it fun keep people on their toes.
I've been watch a ton of your videos man, and one thing I've seen so far is you're a really good boss. Like I just seen a video of you putting all kinds of different hand cleaners in all your trucks for your guys. That's awesome not too many bosses are like that man. I'm just starting to study for my cdl and hopefully I get a boss that gives a shit like you do. Keep it up brother.
A tip on the slacks: Just back them off enough to release the drum from the shoe, pull the drum, and before you pull the shoes off go ahead and turn the adjuster on the slack like you're tightening them (opposite of the ratchet/backing off). Turn it until the cam comes back around to where the shoes would normally be backed all the way off, basically cam over. Now do your normal brake change and when it comes time to reassemble everything the drum should go on without having to mess with the slack and you'll only need to do your final adjustment when done. This helps prolong the life of the slack adjuster by not having to ratchet so much and potentially damage the pawl, plus helps get the grease in the slack worked around.
with the s cams, if you back them off all the way till they stop, they actually push the shoes out just the slightest amount. if you stop backing the s cams off right before they hit the inside of the s part of the cam, the brake shoes should be pulled in just enough that the drum will slide right on without running it on with the impact.
I always run mine out all the way then run them in until they’re perfectly vertical, then the drums slide on like butter, which is important because I have to put my drums on with a 125 pound spoke hub attached to them.
I think you’ve got that one backwards, too much sleep and not enough cigs or dew will make a man a zombie, that’s why I smoke 3 packs a day, either lucky non filters or camel wides if they run out of lucky non filters at my smoke shop. Also a 2qt thermos of coffee and a half gallon of the dew. Now that’s trucking!
Hey Justin like your videos. I would call manufacturer for those parts. They definitely seem too tight. Usually when backed to the neutral position there is a lot of clearance. Usually something is oversized. Maybe they have oversized linings or oversized rollers or didn’t cut drums enough. They make a drum measuring tool to check diameter. Also there is what is called a drum dolly. This will help as you get older like me. Our drums are much larger for the rears and I use to put on by hand but not worth hurting my back. Hope this info helps even if you don’t respond to a Mf one of them. Take care.
I have NEVER had to use a gun to "drive" on the drum's! WTF? This dude is a HACK. I owned semi dump's for 18 years, I hope all of his other videos aren't this ridiculous.
One thing I do is use a cutoff wheel for the old springs since your putting new on anyhow. That saves time and the hassle of getting old ones off. Also Justin it looks like the slacks on you Pete are like mine. If you have room raise your bed up and use a couple of extensions on your ratchet then you can stand up between the drive axles and adjust the rear brakes between the rear inside tire and the frame. You also have the same suspension as mine so it should work. As far as the front drive slacks they are just a pain. Also you might want to look at OTC brake drum caddy Part#1543. About $220 on Amazon. They make 2 different ones. This is the cheaper price of the 2 and looks to me like will work with no problem. I plan on getting one before I have to do brakes on my truck again. Since I have gotten older you need to use all the tricks you can so you don't hurt yourself.
Justin, maybe u could make a mount/pad to put on ur floorjack to help u lift and seat those drums.. anything u can to help ur back especially since u work alone..
Justin you can use a hand truck to put the drums on on the slack adjuster back the adjuster all the way off and give a 1/2 turn like you was going to tighten thim up make sure your s cam is clean I can do a axle in about 30 minutes
Self employment stress with a young child at home will drain anyone, I live it every day fuck just finished plowing for 24 hours over here in Massachusetts dealing with equipment problems and only have 5 trucks
Scrape the crud out of the valleys of the scams Just a little bit gives you a lot more clearance. Also brake tech tools sells a prybar that puts the big spring on after the rollers and works slick
Justin here's a tip for you. Go to Harbor freight and buy mini bolt cutters. Just cut the main spring and roll the old brakes off. No need to wrestle with those little bastards
An easier way to mount or remove the drums is to rest them on your legs while sitting on your rolling chair and just roll forward or backward. Way easier on your back!
That's the way I've done it for years with normal outboard drums. Inboard drums I've usually just had to hoist the drum and hub up on the spindle the bad way. I'm kinda surprised my back is fine after 30 years in this business.
you gotta be 100 that the S cams are in the absolute PERFECT spot to get the drum back on( where they are floating loose with 0 pressure on the rollers)( i didnt watch to see that you got them absolutely perf!)
I know there is a tire cradle for when u remove both tires to replace axles and or bearings/seals, would that work for u, or maybe put some spacers on it to hold those drums ?? Save ur back brah, enzo needs u to teach him how to ride a bike, play catch !!
They make drum dollies specifically for mounting and dismounting brake drums, I use one at work, saves a lot of wear and tear on the backs of us old guys. Also, it shouldn’t be that hard to slide a drum over a set of shoes, almost like putting a drum over a set of q+ shoes that are mounted on a q cam.
a much easier way to do those brakes that will be so much easier on you is to simply cut the two little springs with a cutoff tool. when installing the new shoes just have the big spring already hooked to both of them and put the shoes on. the little springs I then use a flat head screwdriver with a slot cut into it to hook the little springs in. then just put the rollers on.
my last four dump trucks that ive owned i couldnt use even fit a 1/4 drive to ratchet in there ever !, i needed to use both hands on a 11mil or 9/16 wrench to release and adjust my brakes(knuckle busting work) . These brakes are cake to change compared to all my trucks where i must pull bearings and axles out, rear end fluid mess each time-im dreaming of the day my brake changes can be this simple -just the truth :)
@@scottbaker1018 yes big AMEN !2019 im finally getting into this century lol .my new 08 has budds ,im getting to old for pulling axles, and seals, each wheel. " whew we" as JST says

Tony Chandler I agree I usually clean all the mounting spots with a wire wheel. And backing off auto slacks wrecks the adjuster. I can usually slide the drum off without backing them off then I just roll the cam over. I've never had to force the drum back on.
Hello Justin, In my opinion you need a team of 2 young guys who are GONG HO and want to learn what you can teach and keep them as your workers and still oversea the job is done rite ?! P.S You could wear overalls because crack kills! LOL
If you've tried every pair of pants with no success its just that you have a abnormally high crack and there is nothing you can do to fix it unfortunately. I work with a guy who also has a high crack.
I got the ass crack problem also when im working, I found that a under armour style boxer brief under a normal cotton style boxer brief... My pants wear ALOT better and I dont have to offend my old lady customers when I have to bend down for some reason with my ass crack.. the 2nd pair slides down while the 1st pair keep up around you.
FaceTime video video about getting a buddy to film it for you maybe will be able to watch what you do instead of staring at the chrome hope the entire time
learn from a small or skinny old timer they know the skill called leverage and will teach you to use that lump 3 feet above your ass, smarter not harder use drum dolly to lift drums on and off buy a 5000lb forklift at any and some chains n hooks, plus its fun figuring out different rigging for different jobs
Losing energy? If you don't figure out a way to take some time off you are going to burn out. Also, stop lifting those heavy drums, get a jack to do it, you are going to hurt yourself. You are not a kid anymore.
2:50 you have to stop smoking and drinking Mountain Dew. Is Mountain Dew delicious? Yes but it also contains tons of sugar and smoking makes you more prone to diabetes.
The reason the drum was so hard to get on is because You adjusted the shoes out too far... next time try putting the drum on first and then set your brake adjuster.
I ain't letting you know if I've used a god damn mother fucking thing and I definately ain't letting you know if I like a god damn mother fucking thing! So doesn't matter anyways or whatever and all that shit!
You need to take at least one day off a week man also fuck off the cigarettes and Mountain Dew start drinking more water and you shouldn’t struggle as much. Take care of yourself bud
Get your thyroid and testosterone checked. Look after yourself. I was 41. Working 7 days....no energy, cold. Blood test. Etc...The old me was back. I went from sitting on the couch with a blanket cold to painting my kitchen and my bathroom. Spring came and I was back to my self. I quite smoking. I go to the gym now. This all did not happen over night.

Excellent video Justin I've been showing your repair videos to the mechanics at the shop
A crack free repair video! Very nice! PS, lack of energy is a few things- to many cigs,to much dew,not enough sleep. And if course, age!!

Have you looked into Neo Brakes? They are an independent manufacture located in Wisconsin. We use them OTR local and have had great results.
Hey Justin was it the type of slack adjuster you need to have two tools in order to back off those brakes?
A pallet jack is a handy tool to have especially when removing removing tires
Try not to breathe that break dust in you can weld up a little cradle for small floor jack to hold and lift drums
Try just backing the brake off just enough to get the drums off. Then cam it over after you get the drum off. Saves excessive wear on your slacks.
Self employment stress with a young child at home will drain anyone, I live it every day fuck just finished plowing for 24 hours over here in Massachusetts dealing with equipment problems and only have 5 trucks

racerxnk Norco makes a dolly for lifting the drums into position. www.ebay.com/p/Norco-72040B-Brake-Drum-Handler/1537316360
If you back the brakes of making more clearance from the drum the drums go on easier sounds simple but seldom thought of 17:35
Hey can you explain difference between axles is it worth it to get more axles on a truck and also do you get your loads from a broker?
Can't wait for the disc brake video.
Great video..! just a suggestion on the spring removal...
try "Lineman/Cable Cutters"
...and cut them 💪😎
Use a dolly to put on an take off the drums works like a charm an saves ur back
