Does anybody know what goes into the decision on which brand drums a corps marches each season? Just asking because it seemed like BD was all about Dynasty for a while and then are using Ludwig, which I almost forgot still made drums for marching percussion. Dynasty is now pretty much non-existent in DCI from what I see.
Pretty sure it mainly boils down to which company will give the corps the best deal. Blue Devils switched to Pearl in 2008, then used System Blue drums built by Natal in the mid 10s. The switch to Ludwig happened just this year, as Ludwig seems to have re-emerged in the past couple years as a marching equipment manufacturer. The last group I remember seeing use Ludwig in DCI was Blue Stars in 2006. I believe Infinity used them the past few years before switching to Tama this past season.
Usually the decision is made as a result of which company offers the best sponsorship. I think that's how it's still done. Companies want their brand seen by people and what better way than to sponsor a top 3 or 4 D.C.I. drumline. So many high school band directors purchase drums as a result of seeing the brands during the summer at shows and advertising in band publications.
Just jumped back into dci and learned the BD 23 book. This book is reusing ALOT of licks/phrasing from 23 or obviously visa versa. Is that a common thing with BD these days?
Their show was called “The Cut-outs” and the concept was about using pieces of material to put together a piece of art. It follows conceptually that they would “borrow” a lick or two from previous years’ show music to achieve that purpose. But that explanation will differ based on who you ask.
The snares sound to snarey. Need more 90’s ping in them. The notes don’t cut thru enough. The brush part… ehh just use sticks…. Feels like an indoor drum line show… clean yea, notes yea, choreography ugh yea. Needs more ballzzzz… They hardly look challenged by the book.
Obviously the players are talented but I can’t stand all the dancing. It’s cringy. And the costumes are awful. Give me the DCI before all the squats and dancing became so prevalent. And the books these days are just boring.
@@hello-zh3jr BAC played well but looked like they were wearing black trash bags. Their "costumes" weren't any better than BD or anyone else... I can't take any line seriously when they're dressed up in stuff you can buy at Halloween Express... DCI needs uniforms and shakos back something terrible.
4:18 beginning to the ditty. Such a good line. Sent shivers down my spine
They practiced at my high school like 3 weeks ago
Here for the content. Please keep up the good work. Looking for forward to WGI!
Thanks man! Appreciate the kind words and your support. Got more vids from finals week on the way in the next week, stay tuned!
Agreed!
Let’s go!!!
Blue smoke!!

Well the real reason bd is now Ludwig is because Ludwig bought system blue.
@@mylesthomas9333 I hope they keep using these Ludwigs. I never liked the sound of the System Blue drums. These sound really nice.
Bass!
2:29-2:30 was so sick
2:26 is that the mcnutt 😳
So weird seeing a top 5, or hell, even a top 10 corps using Ludwig.
NOW it is....BD was in Ludwigs when iIwas in the corps in 84.
3:58 to 4:04 tenors go so hard 🔥

@@DrumlineArchives I knew it was “the cut-outs” but never thought about “cutting out” past material! Thanks for taking the time to explain!

They make it look easy. Man that’s sort of the goal. Go ahead and look up sheets for this show, it’s not easy what so ever.
I kinda agree with the snare comment. They are just tuned really low for my liking
@@nedmac4451 it’s to hide all the dirt. Live they were dirty
Huh?😂😂😂
you want them drumming on conk creet baybee

marching would hella boring if not for all the visuals, I probably wouldn't even do it
man i literally fell asleep in my chair watching footage of BD 1994, DCI back then was too robotic for the most part, almost becomes white noise
gonna be hard to get another group of kids that are this good... 2023 is lil diferent group
