    What amazes me is how clean they play during lots without the use of the hands or a metronome! They absolutely smoked everyone else out this year in terms of percussion. I'd even say they were better than Vanguard this year! Btw, we will miss you SCV, come back soon!

    • @justincoffey8718
      @justincoffey8718 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Rarick consistently writes the most musical books in all of DCI. You can't appreciate it as such, just by hearing the battery by itself.

    • @JohnSmith-zi9or
      @JohnSmith-zi9or 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@justincoffey8718 Your comment makes literally no sense. If his books were the most musical, the battery alone would be musical without the pit or the ... amplified brass and electronics. Sigh. DCI isn't musical anymore. Its all about who can play the hardest licks without regard to musicality. This is precisely why DCI sucks now and isn't interesting.

    • @justincoffey8718
      @justincoffey8718 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@JohnSmith-zi9or I don't understand what doesn't make sense. The battery and pit books are written to complement the horn book. The battery book is only one facet of the work as a whole; how they all fit together into a coherent presentation is what's important. What makes Rarick's books so musical is that they aren't 12 minutes of ram. There's a logic and a flow, and a sort of playfulness to them, and they incorporate all the possible textures of the various drums. They aren't balls-out aggressive or hyper-technical. You don't have to like or even appreciate any of it, but if you're going to complain that there's too many notes in a battery book, a Bloo video is not the place to do so.

    • @JohnSmith-zi9or
      @JohnSmith-zi9or 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@justincoffey8718 I just rewatched the video just to make sure I didn't miss anything. According to my BPM counter, I think every fucking song they played was 178BPM. It's the same shit rammed out over and over and over. Musicality? Bullshit. These shows are all about harder and faster because that is what wins, not musicality and entertainment. Listen, this video will receive maybe a 50-100 thousands views in its lifetime. A sloppy playing drumline in Europe (Top Secret) will get MILLIONS of views per video. There's a reason. And ya'll just don't get it. Keep playing that high tempo crap.

      @justincoffey8718 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@JohnSmith-zi9or You completely ignored what I said about how to gauge musicality. Plus, you're the only one here complaining that the tempos are too fast. You don't have to like anything you don't like, but you aren't going to be validated here for your opinion. So just go listen to something that's more your speed, okay?
