I normally don't watch BD stuff, i'm indifferent to their technique. I learned different technique growing up. But you gotta admit the snare break at the end was stupendous. The amount of focus required to play singles cleanly that fast while also moving in circles (altering the listening environment) is humongous. You nailed it 110% guys.
The hardest part about this snare break was the spacing actually, Brandon said it himself, the hardest snare break he’s ever played. For 8 people to come in perfectly from a cold stop multiple times in the same break is outrageous

I watched the Blue Devils when they came to town on their 2nd stop of their tour and their licks were much much better in this video. Totally improved and that last part of their drum warmup was music from their show.
I think it’s important that the staff at BD knows that we don’t like the sound produced here, but I do agree that any comments bashing the performers directly are pretty disrespectful and unnecessary. Drums that are incredibly hard to tune + incredibly hard Book = a situation that’s extremely difficult for the performers to deal with, and I’d say they handled it very well given the situation, especially considering they’re mostly rookies at BD.
HydrAquas I mean it’s just drum heads I went to a system blue camp and they gave my drumline their old heads for two tenors and four snares except basses
I have to admit this show was pretty good. I can’t wait to see what the 2019 show looks like. Great year overall and by both Northern California drum and bugle corps nonetheless in the Blue Devils and Santa Clara Vanguard.
ffs. The amount of trash talking is literally unacceptable. Everyone on this line spent their money, time, and talent on performing their show to the highest extent they can which I would say is pretty damn good considering they weren't very far from SCV in first place. The amount of rhythm modulations and control this book demands is downright fucking insane. I would also like to note that System blue no longer have cutouts on the quads from what rumors I've which correct me if I'm wrong have had problems projecting and just outright don't perform well relative to other products. DCI shouldn't be about tearing lines down ESPECIALLY if you have no marching experience. (Note I'm not a BD dickrider I just enjoy the marching arts scene and it tears my heart apart when people who enjoy the art enough to pursue a higher level are being torn down by those who don't even attempt or know what hard work really is.)
No one has any problem with the kids at any organization it’s when the organizations make decisions that don’t allow the performers to reach their highest level of performance
They are like twice as clean as last year, with more interesting notes. I didn't care for the show so I don't know what the front ensemble dd but this is some great drumming. Kinda shocked SCV scored higher.
@@garetwilliams6011 really amazing how much it helps tbh I was blown away at how consistent it makes things. Seems obvious but it took me a bit to figure it out for myself haha
For everyone dissing the BD for being repetitive, sloppy, and having bad drums. This is for you. Let me start off by saying the tenors they use (which have been accused of cut out rims, not being made from wood, and having bad projection) are phenomenal. Last years models did have cut rims but it was only at the sweeping areas, the only part made from carbon fiber is the knuckle ring which is steel on other drums and the reason why the system blue tenors are so much lighter than other tenors hexes. Also, the tenors have deeper shells so they have more depth and tone and better sound and projection overall. Now about them being repetitive. One thing to say, all prominent DCI groups are repetitive you are just too biased to see it. Finally, the sloppiness. They are definitely not sloppy once you consider what they play. They have been recognized for playing some of the most difficult arounds and scrapes/sweeps out there, and no, they don"t run around the field cranking out notes like SCV but the SCV uses quints, not hexes, so not only are they easier to manuever but are easier to do so over long periods of time, plus quints are easier to play because you dont get as many awkward angles when dealing with the single spock as compared to 2 spocks. Go Blue Devils!
Slides and Thrill Rides To be fair, Metamorph is the best show to ever be performed at a DCI competition. It is the closest anyone has ever gotten to the perfect show.
I love the jumping at the start super fun visually but also they can do it easily cause the drums weigh next to nothing some really cool tech other then the questionable sound quality
While they may have bad uniforms (thanks bluecoats) they still got second. They may not be scv clean, but I can guarantee most of the people writing negative comments haven’t drummed at this caliber and therefore have no reason to call them dirty when they clearly have plenty more they themselves can fix.
I will have to let you know SCV only won because of the crowd participation while they were playing. Blue devils has a unique sound no one else can even understand how to mimic. But ultimately the Blue coats and blue devils have the cleanest beats
