You asked for request of upcoming masterclasses. Sure… there is a ton of video out there for Heliloops, Downloops and this kind of stuff. I would love to have one in your style. I always feel like the tutorials are missing something. (My biggest question here: Is it better to complete the heliloop before landing or landing with heli loop completing? Side question: I sometimes see people doing a weird lets say "S" motion after completing the heliloop on landing - so they cancel the loop or sth. )
That is a topic I've been wanting to address for a while now. I'll work on it when I'm in Capetown this season for a release somewhere in 2023. The downloop doesn't have to be finished on your landing, but it should be back in the original wind window. If you do a big down/heli loop behind you, and you land with the kite in that position your lines will go slack (not ideal) I sometimes cancel out the loop by pulling an S in the end. There are moment where you did the first part of the loop and landed with your kite just entering the wind window. Depending on which side I want to ride out of it, the shorter way for the kite to go might be the opposite side of the loop. (Not sure if it's easy to understand from text without images)
I just love this trick and it is quite well explained. Looks stylish when it is seen from the beach. Gotta try the "with loop" and "with backroll" in my next session. Tx!
well done, did you sort out all the questions right? Please do the technique of jumping from the kicker wave , otherwise there are questions how to get the maximum effect of a springboard ?

Most people need to improve their carve as that is the key point to the jump transition, have fun trying and perfecting it. The bloopers are here to stay, I also enjoy them a lot.

If you want to pop high on toeside you'll have to edge more and use the kite a little bit. I can have a look at making a 1 minute short, that should be able to cover most of it.

Your transition looks very good because it is quite flat! On a very bumpy spot it is sometimes more tricky especially for the butt position which may interfere with a wave during the carving manœuvrer ! Some tip for very choppy spot would be good, for jump transition or for simple jump! 🤗😎
I've the same problem of my butt catching chop when carving right before the jump. I don't know if it slows me down, but it definitely makes me lose my concentration...

I'm riding with decent speed and carving upwind, but I think I am bleeding off all of my speed rather than translating it to upwind speed. Are there differences in how you would carve in order to come to a stop, compared to how you would carve to do a 90-degree turn to upwind? Or is it more about having enough speed so that after the turn you still have speed? Thanks for this video - my jump transitions are working more often, but they still need work.
I find it best when you go for a short and explosive carve towards the wind. If the carve is done too slow or initiated too early you'll bleed out all the speed. Increasing speed can help, but maybe try to initiate the carve a little bit later. (sorry for the late reply, I've been on vacation for the past 3 weeks)

Great tutorial! When I try to edge and carve hard, I keep dipping my butt into the water causing me to lose all momentum. Is there a common mistake that you see that could cause this?

Good question. I find it easier to park the kite slightly passed 12 as this makes it easier to kill all your forward speed and direct it upwind. When you park the kite at 12 there is a high chance you'll still be traveling sideways after your carve and pop making the landing even harder.

Steve one question on the backroll jump. In your video after you carve edge and pull the bar to initiate the jump transition, you release the bar for a sec and then you pull again. Is this needed for the tension in the lines or it depends on the wind speed?
I believe that I was about to over rotate on that one, so I had to spend less time in the sky. Letting the bar out was the easiest way to correct my mistake. In general it's best if you keep your bar down (that's what you should aim for at least.)
Very nice… but what is the key difference between a "Transition" take off and a normal jump take off? Shouldnt it be the same? Or is it a different angle?
For the transition take off you need to take off straight in to the wind. This is a 90 degrees upwind carve from crosswind. For a normal jump you only have to carve 45 degrees towards the wind from crosswind.
Depends how you look at it. If you ask 2 different persons to explain you a new trick 3 out of the 5 tips they give will be the same. So yes, the videos and pointers are very similar, but sometimes you might just find the golden tip in a different video. (FYI: I didn't watch the Kitesurf college video for this trick)

Sounds like you're leaning back too much, it's important that you control your turn so your body stays above the water.
Zo grappig dat je bij een weiland met koeien gaat staan in plaats van aan het water😂. Hele mooie uitleg en video montage 👍
😅 Strand was 45 minuten rijden en dit was zo goed als in de achtertuin. Moet wel een beetje een Nederlandse sfeer creëren 😉

Yes, it's a very nice and easy way to change direction, but its also a different kind of jump transition that mainly suits the higher jumps.
