I LOVE how jank this is. The weird walk and run animations - the music that's closer to the Masa demo tracks - all the old and unused enemies. It definitely has a "what if they let the American devs cook" kind of vibe to it.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again- I really appreciate the efforts of people to try and recreate the Sonic 2 that could have been. Glad to see this is still being updated!
I wasn't expecting the shifted pitch in percussion, that immediately made me flinch.

Easily one of my top favourite Sonic 2 Beta recreations to date! I hope they plan on adding more cut or altered zones, like Genocide/Cyber City Zone.

That top speed running sprite looks so weird. It looks like someone just cut sonic in half with how much his upper half is shifted towards the right

Sonic 2 if it never released inside Japan:
I really like these alternate DAC Drum samples on the entire game's soundtrack. These being emerald Hill act 1/act 2, The boss theme, and Metropolis Act 1. And no I'm not talking about the sonic 1 prototype drum sample. It's a different sounding snare sample that played on the ym2612's PCM channel.
Also here's a fun fact: During the game's development, the game had a time traveling mechanic leaving 5 timelines, But the time traveling mechanic was mysteriously abandoned and was later revived by one of the best-selling Sega CD games out there: Sonic CD
The new walking animation is wrong. In early versions, Sonic 1's Walking Animation was recolored for Sonic 2 use, scrapped shortly before Nick Arcade.

Y’all think they’re gonna incorporate the Time Travel mechanic somehow?
I’d say the Present Zones would be priority 1 in that case, but that’d be very interesting nonetheless
It's not impossible, Sonic 2 CD Remix did it
it wasn't a mechanic, time travel in sonic 2 was apart of the story. I'm sure eventually they're gonna add time travel though

The top speed run is even more interesting. But I really like the "on the edge" animation
that full speed running sprite looks incredibly fugly and I'm kinda glad Sega did another pass to make sure something like that didn't get into sonic 2.
other than that, this is probably the most polished Sonic 2 beta asset repackaging hack I've seen!
i love then sonic do the suer run sprites is look cursed but i love this mod
i really do not like sonic's new top speed sprite where he leans forward, it just doesnt look good imo
That was in the betas too! I honestly don't like it either- it looks like Sonic's torso is detached from his body!
@@FoxMan_FF i dont mind the swirly legs and new walking sprite, just his torso not being attached to his legs looks weird and you can visibly see him get taller when he reaches top speed which is pretty jarring imo. some of the music changes are quite odd too.

If only Sonic 2 would have been released in 1993 or later, having all the unused content (songs, zones, time travel), we practically won't need Sonic CD (or maybe yes, who knows).
Sonic: Eggman’s Conquest is such a very awful game. I saw the redhotsonic stream when they featured that game and they hated that ROM hack. You guys should really quit progress on Sonic: Eggman’s Conquest.
In fact, those two projects are by one team, but on Conquest works mostly another people, but I'll tell conquest leader about your message ^_^
