Sonic Hack - Sonic 2 Advanced Edit

Sonic 2 Advanced Edit features 7 entirely new zones, each full of unique enemies and with a boss whose gameplay varies depending on which character you play as. Playable characters are Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy. Furthermore as bonus content, the hack features the 5 zones from the 2008 release, brushed up to be fully playable. Upon completing the 7 main zones, you obtain a code to access the level select from which you can play the bonus zones by selecting "South Island 1". Made by Team AE
There are 69 big rings scattered throughout the 7 main zones. Collect 7 of them to gain the ability to turn super once you have at least 50 rings in any given level.
Controls:
Sonic, Tails, Knuckles: As in S3K. (No spindash for Tails.)
Amy: A, Down+A: Hammer attacks; B/C, Down+B/C: Jump/Spindash.
Super forms: To enable, hold A+B+C while jumping. (No super form for Tails.)
Level reset: While paused, hold A+B+C to go to start of the level/last starpost (costs 1 life).

Just missing special stages and a true final boss imo. This hack does look amazing, though.
There was actually another advanced hack i found a long time ago. It was called Sonic 2 Advanced. I just thought it was a revision of the 2008 release before this came out. You can find it here www.angelfire.com/games6/horsefacekilla/ its the picture of Sonic and Tails at a sunset version of Emerald Hill basically. Just click and you can download it!

I used to play this ROM hack a lot when I was yonger when I found it in Sonic Retro. I never would thought I would see a "complete" version of Sonic 2: Advance Edit someday. And then, 11 years later - here we are.
And those levels are very well done! Looks almost a original game, to be honest. This hack is a big example of why you should never rush you art, take all the time you need to polish everything you need!
Anyway, very glad to see one of these classic Sonic ROM hacks very much completed.
Really liking how much effort was put into this project with more playable and completable levels with tons of new gimmicks, sprites, artwork, and of course the level design. I still remember playing past versions of this many years ago, and glad it has made a return for the better. Can't wait to see what the special stages will be like in a future update.
@Nikash Gill There's just one problem with this game, it doesn't work on an original system. It crashes beyond the title screen upon pressing start.
@@Oysterblade84 That's a shame, similar to Metal Sonic Rebooted if played in optimised 50 Hz. I'm sure RedHotSonic will be doing a video on that.

7:13 wow that transition into that space-bended tower was pretty nice, it reminds me some Sonic Lost World levels
Man, I remember playing this hack back in 2009, and seeing how it is now, 10 years later, is just FUCKING AMAZING! Loved how diverse the levels are, the gimmicks that I thought I'd never see in a S2 hack and the custom bosses/badniks!

@@TheGael95 It's still ingame. Finish the game and you get a code to the level select. From there on, you can choose the old levels, which are now completely finished, including Garnet Garden.

Garnet Garden with its Cosmic Carnage soundtrack was awesome.
Nice to hack that is not a recolor of Sonic 1 for once. In terms of level design, this one of the more advanced I've seen

Very impressive hack with a very impressive amount of differing amounts of dev time! Cosmic City, Blue Mountain and Robotic Ruin were my favs. The minecart bits in Dusty Desert were cool too.
I like this game tbh, because bosses are original, not reused bosses :D
This has more creative stage design than the original games. It could honestly stand as an original property like Freedom Planet if it was reworked to not involve Sonic

I watched a channel called Kaze Emanuar, he makes Super Mario 64 ROM Hacks. He does everything very well, looking like a Nintendo game. Razor & Zenon, where do you find the Sonic ROM Hacks huh?
I can't believe my eyes!! I really loved playing Advanced Edit back in the day (how long has it been again??), zones were very few but with a lot of work put into them. Glad to see it making a return and better than ever!
I really like how technically impressive this hack is. All the custom elements are really neat.

One of the best hacks I've played of anything.
Now Then I realized how this hack on Sonic differs from what I played, the ability to choose any hero from the universe of Sonic, just one 🔤 and on the other hand this hack reminds me of the textures of the levels on Sonic The Hedgehog 2 Neo, something like this, the music is changed, it sounds cute, and badniks have essentially changed, some generally spikes, but this hack is suitable for all those who love this blue hedgehog 😃😃😎😎🐬

Guys what is the song in eggquarium?
I finally got to play this game. It was tough but I beat it and it was a fun game, many enjoyable levels! Now I'm playing as Knuckles because for some reason as Tails it glitches out in the second act of Blue Mountain zone and I can't tell where I'm going. But overall great game!

Robotic Ruin looks like Marble Zone Bad Future
The art is gorgeous, but the level design is bearable at best and the music fits the situation. I do like the fact that all the badniks and bosses are unique, but the levels just don't cut it

Truly a beautiful game. Though I think it should be called something else besides “Sonic 2” for 2 of these reasons:
1. It actually is hacked beautifully to the point where you wouldn’t even know this was Sonic 2 to begin with.
2. Sonic’s sprite looks like he’s from Sonic 3 rather than 2.
I think it's more based on the Master System games. Those take place on South Island
@@dr.memes2156 I think it might be based on the Game Boy Advance games. Hence the name “Advanced Edit” and the fact you can play as Amy. Anyway, it should have been called something else.

I soo love to shit this game.. This should be remade putting Shadow Jet Rouge and Blaze in the moves modes in Sonic 2 the return of shadow. I will even request that for future update.
