My take on it, She's clearly a woman who has no life, taking care of her nagging old mother and getting away for the day from the mother is her only chance of peace. It's ruined by Brendan Gleesons character who can't shut the hell up, eats his food horribly and breathes too loudly. She moves away the inhaler and lets the guy die cause I do think she wishes she could do that to her mother. It's an Evil thing but shows she's not quite right in the head. That's my take on it.
I'm actually rather confused about something with regards to this film...why is it on the Irish Syllabus if it's this dark and depressing? I'm studying this film for my Leaving Cert. I think it's a well-done short film and all that but I just don't know why some teachers are expected to teach this...My Irish teacher was actually on about that the other day as well. Not going into a full-blown rant or anything, but just commented saying that.
It feels like a lot of the Irish syllabus has some depressing stuff. Like colscaradh is the poem we're doing atm, although it's not particularly dark, there's still the likes of Geibheann and that one with the child and the ice cream truck for JC, I forget the name.
Cassie Tad Eh. Colscaradh I just find to be kind of stupid. At least with regards to what the woman wants. I can relate to Geibheann a bit though. And... the child and the ice cream truck? I don't think we did that.
The Celestic Warrior We did it in our school for Junior Cert, I'll have a look for the name now. It's the one where the child gets hit by the ice cream van and it says all about their funeral, very depressing stuff.

i just watched this in class the windows were widfe open as its scorching today and the blinds were flapping like crazy as it SPOILER leads to his death and when he dies they stopped flapping
@DJdobsyify well in fairness the lady is under stress always having to care for her mother and now she has to look after a blind man on a train though that doesnt justify killing him i just think its not fair to completely blame her

I think its more of an emotional study than a film with a message. Its just the characters and the plot don't really make sense so it doesn't work.

Because it gives you conflicting emotions throughout the whole thing and is very easy to base an opinion off of which is the the roinn wants
