(Army veteran) Completely stupid, but they did nail it for the German civilian working on base. I have seen them look at their watch and pull out a newspaper, then put it away exactly 15 minutes later (while I waited my turn for my paperwork).
The man was obviously supposed to be Dutch, not German. Also these are US army soldiers but look like real Dutch solders to me. With being out of shape and with long hair and a definite lack of discipline.
As a veteran the only realistic (good) scene was @ 3:06 ... "I like this private" "He ran into a door" "but at least he ran"...Motivation trumps proficiency, LOL!
Yeah, we're waiting for something to be funny. This is ridiculous. Essentially the entire world has become no smarter than a six-year-old because you can tell in the shows that people watch now.
Not realistic but the feeling of being at certain unimportant bases was definitely captured. When I was stationed at Diego Garcia, it felt like the military just forgot all of us. I actually got excited when a conspiracy theorist called up and demanded that we closed down the CIA black sites that he thought we had there, but then I remembered how embarrassingly slow the place was and how unfulfilled it made me feel so I went out to the parking lot and threw pebbles at a coconut crab.
Least Important U S Army base with graft, black marketing and incompetent Army and Air Force personnel was Camp Hialeah, Pusan Korea. I was there for 3 years. Saw the BSB Commander arrested for drunk and disorderly conduct by his own MPs twice. He would have his Korean girlfriend push him in a grocery cart from the club to his home while in nothing more than his underwear. Good ole Camp Hialeah which is now gone.
I was TDY there in the mid 90s. Only on station for 2 weeks. Being USAF the Army cooks were all up in arms cuz at an AF mess hall, someone else takes our trays... The old civilian was growling at me to put my tray back. I politely reminded him that respect gets respect. You honey vs vinegar concept. Plus we were in briefed about the mess hall etiquette. The same civilian growled at one of SNCOs... Yeah, that did NOT go well for anyone. Tried to warn the old civilian... 🤣🤣🤣🤣 We were rotated in every two weeks work out on the Pusan AB. Your the 1st vet I've know who knows Camp Hialeah... That's awesome to me!!!
He's a fake colonel. LOL. That would be funny if in the show it turns out that he's a fake and he was able to make it up as he goes on to a military installation. I remember seeing one real video of a guy pretending to be a cop and went on raids with drug task force. They only found out because HR was confused.
As a Dutchie, I'm so confused on so many levels. Why does the base have half a Dutch (stroop) and half a German (dorf) name? Why does the only Dutch civilian speak with a German accent? Why is it the least important milit.....What am I looking at here??
Actually as a Dutch guy, my father used to be in the military in Germany. It was obligatory military service back then and some had to serve on German bases. So it was quite real in the 70's. When I ask my father I always get nice stories about how unmotivated people where, like the hippies they were back then with long hair. Google on Rinus Wehrmann or hippieleger and you see what made the Dutch infamous, rebelling soldiers with no order. So this comedy series is based on some facts...
The most useless post in the army is white sands missile range. It has been down graded feom a 2 star command to a 1 star command ro a full colonel command, then recnetky upgraded back to 1 star command. When the commanding general brags that WSMR is the "best kept secret" in the army, that means no one knows about it, and no one cares.
I want to give this a chance, but its pretty painful to watch. I get its supposed to be comedic....but if your audience is mostly military, I'd wish theyd have some more military nuances researched. This show just seems like they took what they thought they knew about the Army and whatever they watched on MASH and other shows came up with this. Their military advisor must be bad or has their hands tied.
No Major is awarded the CIB twice with just the Iraq/Afghanistan service ribbons. Those are considered the same time period and dual CIB awarding is not allowed.
The filming location for this is Gormanstown Army Camp,Co Meath, Ireland. I Served there for 22 years and then retired. Camp was the station for Irish defence forces, an Army Aer Corps unit and a army infantry unit 'B coy 27th Inf Bn'. I wish it was really like that in my day 😂
A major with 3 MSMs, a BSM with a V, and a Ranger DUI is going to decide to rep the 101st? And what's with the ovals? They obviously aren't assigned to an airborne unit.
We had mandatory service and one guy refused to cut his hair and spend some time in prison for it most people agreed with him and he was released and the rules changed
Its a sitcom ffs (And one about poor standards at that). We've long established that shows don't get it all right with military stuff so chill out Captain Lookwhatiknow
Ok I thought would be stupid and I was right as a 10 year infantry vet I’m gonna end up watching this but I would suggest they team up with vet tv so it’s just a little more entertainingly accurate
This looks...bad. There legitimately are units where all of the worst screwups get dumped, but they aren't corny or funny. They're dark. Drugs, violence, prostitution, absolute idiots and degenerates who somehow got wavered in when they shouldn't have and are typically in the process of being discharged long before their EAS date... Basically, imagine some of the worst inner high schools and that's what they're like. I've only briefly encountered them in passing, but even those brief times filled me with disgust.
That's the point, it's funny becuase how stupid it is. It's the opposite of what we as Amaricans know as our armed forces, I don't doubt there's an actually place like this somewhere in Denmark
This is a plain stupid question, when DOD decides to assign a Cornnel to a base,of course it's important, if not DOD,would close that base,or MOTHBALL it for the future, like in the NAVY.
hilariously, Larry Hama used that concept in the G.I.Joe Marvel comics run early on. the Joes had a hidden base arrangement only accesible through the motor pool of the Chaplain's Assistant School at Fort Wadsworth
We still have some United States airforce in the Netherlands they are guarding the nuclear weapons at volkel airbase that Dutch f-35's have to drop if ww3 breaks out
I could only tolerate about 10 minutes of it. I had it recorded so I could pass the commercials. After 10 minutes I had enough. Stopped it. Deleted it. Then deleted the scheduled recording for future events. Can't say anything good about it.
Commenters seem to be overly worried about the correctness of the uniforms. The uniforms are more correct than most Army uniforms on shows I've seen on TV/movies.

@@MatthewOnAFireMissionFromGod i mean you can't judge a show by a short clip. you have to watch an episode or two.

I love how the Colonel was upset about the "soldier's" hair, when his own hair is waaaaay out of regs, touching his collar.

Probably because it's not funny

No Colonel has three Defense Distinuished Service Medals
Its a show.
i can see one if he was on the staff for the joint chiefs but three is a absurd maybe two at most but that is pushing it

Vet Tv at home:
Danny Pudi is underappreciated. We need him in more movies and shows.
This is basically RAF Alconbury today!! 😂

Pretty sure soldiers on military bases don't carry guns, only military police have them.

I always thought it was part of Bliss, like McGregor range 😂
Why is it useless? Isn't testing of missiles important?
This will get canceled like every other Fox show.
So psyops wins again- putting father and daughter on same base. 🤣

Idk. This is pretty funny.

There was a time in the early 70’s when the Dutch military formed a union and grew their hair long was that the inspiration for this odd show?
We had mandatory service and one guy refused to cut his hair and spend some time in prison for it most people agreed with him and he was released and the rules changed
They were still doing their union thing when I returned to the States in 90
Nice to see Tommy Gavin (Dennis Leary) moving up from the FDNY. I guess Chief Needles is now a general right? (Adam Farera)
The Col.'s hair length is strictly unsat.
Leary probably figured that this show wouldn't last so why bother getting a military haircut.
She's got a drill sergeant patch though...
great accent for Leary
Its must watch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great Show!
I enjoyed it, but it probably won't last
