  • I TALK TO THE WIND
    (McDonald, Sinfield)
Said the straight man to the late man
    Where have you been
I've been here and I've been there
    And I've been in between.
    I talk to the wind
My words are all carried away
    I talk to the wind
    The wind does not hear
    The wind cannot hear.
I'm on the outside looking inside
    What do I see
    Much confusion, disillusion
    All around me.
    You don't possess me
    Don't impress me
    Just upset my mind
Can't instruct me or conduct me
    Just use up my time.
    I talk to the wind
My words are all carried away
    I talk to the wind
    The wind does not hear
    The wind cannot hear.

"I've been here and...I've been there and...I've been inbetween"
I used Peter Sinfield's lyrics to a teacher when i was late for school almost fifty years ago. Sadly, he didn't understand the philosophical content and I got one hours detention instead.

To me. Greg was the best rock singer. He could sing softly, like he does in this beautiful track and then he could go to a powerful voice for any up-tempo track. Not many singers could do that. I'm was a big ELP fan and to see them so many times it was a pleasure to listen to Greg's voice, live.

    • @guidomotshagen7541
      @guidomotshagen7541 3 ปีที่แล้ว +63

King Crimson perfectly fitted in with the psychedelic era, but they themselves were never part of that scene; actually they were rather bourgeois and "classical minded". Fripp himself cannot be called a rock- (or even pop-) guitarist, he plays it in a classical manner and I've never heard him play anything bluesy or something close to rock.
He's very disciplined, but he's also a perfect example of "if it ain't got that swing it don't mean a thing" (Duke Ellington).
I was very proud when a professional guitarist publicly said that "Guido has a good blues coming on". I was 12 at the time, and I was rehearsing "Day Tripper" 😂😂😂. I learned from the best, but I still can only imitate Jimi. 😢😢😢

Years later I found out Nobuo Uematsu, the composer for the Final Fantasy series, is a huge King Crimson fan, and was heavily inspired by King Crimson and ELP, it all sorta made sense.

    I talk to the wind
The wind does not hear, the wind cannot hear

    What do I see?
    Much confusion, disillusion
    All around me

    Just upset my mind
Can't instruct me or conduct me
    Just use up my time

    I talk to the wind

King Crimson allowed me to navigate through a very unhappy high chapter of my life and added intelligence to my musical appreciation. I am forever grateful for their contribution. I've met Robert Fripp and drummer Bill Bruford and I asked Bill during a drum clinic if Michael Giles, the original drummer for King Crimson, if he had not established a legacy for future King Crimson percussionists and Bill woke up in the midst of a boring class and nodded saying he loved the way Michael Giles used his cymbals and press rolls on his snare. Bill Bruford was very approachable and responsive where as Robert Fripp is just as eccentric and quirky as you'd expect Mister Spock of rock to be. Andy McCullough was the 2nd King Crimson drummer in their 3rd album "Circus" and I commented to Bill that Andy emulated the style of Michael Giles and Bill agreed saying Andy was a good friend of his. Great times.
