    After YEARS of hax such as Ohko moves, confuse ray, attract, double team, rest, quick claw, etc I finally got the Battle tower gold symbol. That was probably the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do in any video game. Sorry for randomly commenting this, but the battle frontier is so difficult but it’s so satisfying when you win. Great video, I like using the smog on sets as well

      Don't worry about it I understand your desire to flex a bit, getting gold on the tower and getting gold symbols in general is not as easy task and it requires a lot out of you, not to mention luck smiling on you. Just to clarify on smogon, I only used the site here as an easy database that has images and info on pokemon for the purpose of the video. Outright copying many straight smogon sets for the Battle Frontier is in fact a bad idea as the nature of the formats are different compared to smogon 6v6 singles. Even when I played OU wi fi I'd use smogon as a reference but I'm not a fan of outright copying their sets, either because I don't fully agree on them or due to my philosophies, playstyele or other factors.

      It has its uses but unless it's Gengar I can't say I reccomend it very much and even in the case of Gengar you're probably better off using Destiny Bond. If this was Azelf in gen 4 then 100% but Metagross is usually better off with a fourth coverage move. Remember, this is not OU 6 versus 6.

      @@SaberWolf94 100% - I much preferred my Metagross after teaching it a 4th coverage spell. What kind of EV spread would you go for on your Lv. 50 Metagross? I've been using 4 HP / 252 ATK / 252 SPD. It seems to be working well so far.

    • @SaberWolf94
      @SaberWolf94  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@mitchellwilliam95 I can't speak on lv. 50 because I always played all facilites on Open level 100. For my Metagross I did 252 attack 210 hp and 48 special defence. This hp spread is optimal for minimizing hazard damage and optimizing leftovers healing if you run it as a held item. Basically making sure it has 353 hp depending on your ivs. Adamant nature naturally. You'll need to do some math to figure it for lv 50.

      @@SaberWolf94 Very interesting! Thanks for the insight. I'll go do that. So we're aiming for 22 HP per turn?

    • @SaberWolf94
      @SaberWolf94  2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@mitchellwilliam95 It's not exactly about that. This a post that explains it nicely that I saved a long time ago:
      I will try to explain to you how this works. Basically the Pokemon games will always round down. Meaning 10% of 109 HP is 10 HP because 10.9 is rounded down.
      To maximize the efficiency of items you want to reach a number that corresponds to the % of the item in question.
      Leftovers restores 1/16 of your total HP per turn. This means you want an HP number that is divisible by 16. For example 304 HP will always give you 19 HP recovery.
      Similarly the same rules apply for Recoil damage. To minimize recoil from Life Orb you want to aim for a number that is divisible by 10 + 1. This means after 10 uses you are left with 1 HP.
      This also applies to Stealth Rock who will deal 8/16, 4/16, 2/16 or 1/16 damage to you. Meaning if you maximize Leftovers recovery and add 1, you have minized Stealth Rock damage.
      Then we have Substitute. It will alwasy take 4/16 or just 1/4 of you HP so you will aim for a number divisible by 4 or (if you are using Leftovers) 16. Now add 1 so you can without Leftovers, produce 4 Substitutes before failing. Important detail for Substitutes are the 101 HP Substitutes. You required 405 HP at lvl 100 or 205 HP at lvl 50, this number is important because it means the substitute can't be broken by a single Seismic Toss or Night Shade.
      We move on to Belly Drum. It takes exactly 8/16 or 1/2 of your HP. To activate a Sitrus Berry (or other berry) you must fall exactly to 50% of your HP which means your HP must be divisible by 2. Sitrus Berry however gives you 25% health recovery, which means your HP need to be divisible by 4. Meaning, you aim for an HP number that is divisible by 4 to maximize Sitrus Berry recovery in conjunction with activating it through Belly Drum.
      What else is there ?
      I think you get the basics by now. Most weather does 1/16 damage, so the same rules apply as for Leftover recovery, it's usually smart to add +1 to minimize Stealth Rock damage. Life Orb and Belly Drum are two separate things though as they need different divisors. Burn does 2/16 damage or 1/8, same as Rough Skin and Iron Barbs. Rocky Helmet will deal 1/6 of the HP as damage.
      TL;DR A number divisible by 16 is best for recovery from Leftovers, Sitrus Berry, Black Sludge etc. A number divisible by 2 is best to activate berries after using Belly Drum (4 in conjunction with Sitrus Berry), A number divisible by 16 + 1 is best to minimize Burn, weather and hazard damage. A number divisible by 10 + 1 is best to minimize Life Orb recoil.
      A number divisible by 6, 10 and 16 + 1 will minimize all recoil and hazard damage, and maximize Leftover recovery with only 0.1 point overflow (meaning over 10 activations of Leftovers you have gained 1 HP less). This starts at 241 HP (240 HP + 1 HP overflow).
      To add to this, Regenerator restores 1/3 HP so OP's Slowbro should have an HP divisible by 3.

    Metagross has always been my go-to Pokemon in the Silver Symbol for the Battle Pike. Psychic easily wipes out Seviper, use anything else for Milotic, and then just mash Meteor Mash from Metagross against Shuckle. Since Shuckle's moveset can't do any damage to Metagross, it'll soon fall prey to the power of Meteor Mash.

    I think Aerodactyl is worth a mention. It's frail but I think it's a good cb user for battle tower considering it's speed and coverage.
    Porygon2 is super underrated I think. It's slow, but it's got great bulk with recover and only weak to fighting. 105 sp.atk and bolt-beam coverage. Gets some nice status moves for support too.
    I also like to use sub/petaya typhlosion. Blaze+petaya+sun gives it insane damage output and it can handle things like swampert with hpgrass. it's more of a fun pick tho, too risky to take on a serious run.

    • @SaberWolf94
      @SaberWolf94  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I did briefly mention Aerodactyl but it's extremely risky and all that extra speed is overkill for the frontier in emerald. Porygon 2 isn't actually too bad you're better off using Milotic. Typhlosion is too risky as you say and there isn't really a need to go that route when there are more consistent pokemon.

  • @tiemen9095
    @tiemen9095 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Nice analysis to get new players going. I should mention though, you only went through the tanks and the sweepers, but didn't mention the great support pokemon, particularly baton passers. You also didn't really talk about Latios (or did I miss it?), which is in my opinion the best lead pokemon in the frontier with Lum Berry, Psychic, Calm Mind, Ice Beam, Thunderbolt.
    Examples of other pokemon that I like a lot that you didn't mention:
    Espeon (item: Petaya Berry): Calm Mind, Substitute, Baton Pass Psychic. Basic Strategy is to use Calm Mind, then sweep with Psychic. In case the opponent resists, baton pass to a different special attacker with multiple coverage moves, like Starmie, Suicune, Lati@s, Lapras, Gengar, etc. Substitute is good to stop status coming your way, to scout the moveset on turn 1, to fish for a miss if they are using inaccurate moves on you, or to just have a buffer if you are in a set up war.
    Registeel (leftovers): Amnesia, Curse, Protect, Return. This guy is so tanky after a few amnesia's / curses that the opponent is not going to out-damage your leftovers recovery, especially if you protect every other turn. At +6 curses set up, return hurts many things. Furthermore, his defenses are so high that you often just live 1 crit.
    Fast grass types with Leech Seed, Protect, Substitute and one more move are very powerful. Leech Seed + leftovers will heal more than you lose when you alternate between Protect and Substitute.

    • @SaberWolf94
      @SaberWolf94  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I will admit I forgot to mention the Latis only because they escaped me through not being on the OU tier on smogon, I did mention them though when talking about other pokemon to deal with them. If you watch the whole video you will know I am against pokemon with a double weakness with the exception of Swampert and maybe Tyranitar. The rest of the stuff you mentioned is a bad idea this is not 6 VS 6 singles. I did mention Registeel though but I definitely don't reccomend your set to anyone that's serious about finding success and keep streaks.

    Running CB Slaking with earthquake, shadow ball, aerial ace, return, Lum
    Berry Latios with calm mind, psychic, thunderbolt, ice beam, and leftovers registeel with toxic, protect, seismic toss, rest. Managed to get pretty good IVs / natures for em so I’m pretty excited. Any comments would be appreciated.

    • @SaberWolf94
      @SaberWolf94  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Your Latios is absolutely fine covergae should be very good with those 3 moves and lum berry is a wise choice too since you're running calm mind. Slaking is quite a risky pokemon as if your opponent has protect you basically went with 2 pokemon putting yourself in a big disadvantage. Sure you can switch but you don't want to do that unless you must. Still, if you have one trained up already it should still serve you well and get you wins so I don't fully suggest against it but be prepared to ride your luck with it sometimes. The facilities you definitely don't want to use Slaking is the Battle Arena with the KO rules and the Battle Tower. Registeel is also fine, just keep Thunder Wave in mind too in place of Rest. I understand rest is there for more stall with toxic but with protect and some pressure with Seismic Toss even pokemon that may heal like Milotic won't be able to heal quickly enough. Thunder Wave will check fast aggressive pokemon that you don't really want to waste time with toxic and ruin flail berry tactics too on pokemon like Pincir which a very dangerous. Leftovers is the best item on a pokemon like Registeel so since you won't be able to do the Berry rest combo it makes rest even weaker. Good luck!

    The first Gold symbol I went for was the Battle Palace, specifically so I didn't have to EVER go back there again. The Battle Tower has thus far proven the hardest (I still have the Arena and Factory to go). I finally found a good combo in Salamence, Metagross, and Blissey. Type wise 'Mence and 'Gross make a pretty solid defensive core by covering each others' weaknesses while Bliss and its absurd bulk stands in the way of the special attackers the former two can't handle so well. OH-KO hax are still an issue though but some things you just have to chance.

    • @SaberWolf94
      @SaberWolf94  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Tower is tough because it's so many rounds, I suppose it's meant to be the ultimate facility to beat there and Salon Maiden Anabel reflects that with her team. Arena and Factory will give you a lot of trouble too. I got lucky against Gretta in the Arena on the last round as the AI wasn't making the best of choices.

    Salamence is an absolute S tier staple of the battle frontier. Great in tower singles for both a set up sweeper on record teams and a straight forward attacker on worse teams. Great in tower doubles for intimidate and fast earthquake. Great in palace for the garunteed intimidate, one of the few things you can control. Great in pyramid with a choice band and to reduce wild encounters. Great in arena for being a high stat pokemon. On the smogon forums you will find there are goals far beyond gold.

    • @SaberWolf94
      @SaberWolf94  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      From my experience enthusiasts going "beyond gold" are youtubers that click bait for views that never beat the frontier in original hardware. I stand by what I've said on Salamence in this video and all dragons 4x weak to Ice Beam. Obviously it's not weak but it's far from even the top 5 picks. S Tier staple? Preposterous. All the merits you mentioned come with legitimate drawbacks you're either ignoring or don't know about and it makes me wonder if you even got all the Gold Symbols on real hardware. The ONLY true facility it can be good at as well as Dragonite and Flygon is the Dome where you can actually check your opponent's team and see if they're packing any pokemon that are able to pack Ice Beam. Salamence is my favourite pokemon as I say in the video but is a risky pokemon to use especially if it's your opening pokemon.

    Training a Swampert is tricky. Unfortunately, if we're talking bout natures, the only stat worth losing is speed, but the thing is that Swampert is one of the few decent checks to Walrein 3 (the only actually reliable way to counter a Walrein 3 is to do some sturdy Skarmory protect torment tricks; th set is pretty good but most people dont like to waste their time on stally crippling strategies so they wont run a skarmory even if its reliable, that includes me btw). The thing is that you need enough speed to outspeed Walrein 3 if you dont have other ways to deal with it, which already takes a massive amount of EVs from Swampert. Also other important threats are Breloom and Salamence, which you also need a massive amount of EVs to OHKO with Ice beam, so running a Quiet nature instead of a Brave one allows you to achieve that without compromising too many EVs. Then the rest goes for HP and Attack, just gotta make sure u hit a perfect leftover number
    None of this is mandatory but u need to account for it when teambuilding

    Used this and the other video to get some general ideas on what pokemon to use now that I'm finally seriously tackling the Frontier 20 years later. So far, the team that got me my first couple silver symbols (no gold yet, since I just started) is Kingdra/Zapdos/Ludicolo and it's putting in work. Speed control and HP investment really can't be overstated in importance. All of my mons have above average IVs at most, but just having HP and Swift Swim means they can take a hit and outspeed. Zapdos with Toxic and Protect is actually really sweet against OHKO and Double Team spammers since between Pressure and being poisoned, they won't be able to stall for long. Not my main strat, but a great pocket option for those timewasters. Ludicolo is kinda similar to Kingdra, but can use Leech Seed against the timewasters. I'd never even managed to get the silvers as a kid so this is already a huge improvement. Fun too, since I love how I get to breath life into all my Gen3 hardware. Firered for EV training, Emerald as the main breeding ground, XD and Colosseum for extra tutors and pokemon, it's great. Currently replaying Sapphire too, which has been a lot of fun.

    Swampert is indeed one of the best Pokemon, not just because of its battle properties, but also becuse it is super accessible, you can basically solo the game with it, then ev train it and you already have one of 3 Pokemon you need for the battle frontier (I wouldnt recommend using only 3 for all facilities but you can if you dont wanna spend too much time in preparation). Its so good that Werster used it in his speedrun team. Now that team is actually very inconsistent but it can do the job, and the fact that Swampert is an option in that context makes it good.
    I honestly wouldnt recommend roock slide, the recovery you get from leftovers after protect is just too valuable and an entire moveslot just to hit Articuno, Gyarados, Pelipper, and Mantine supereffectively isnt worth it, but hey its still not that abd of an option, although I prefer Hidden Power Rock for consistency, Swampert is slow anyway so it wont flinch relevant stuff and 5 extra power over HP Rock isnt worth that 5% accuaracy loss.
    Choice Band Swampert with Eq, HP Rock, brick break, and Ice Beam is actually pretty decent for double battles believe it or not.
    Now with all that said...Im sorry but Swampert is not even close to be the best pokemon in the p'yramid, its not even top 3.
    The single best Pokemon in the Battle Pyramid is undoubtably Blissey. First off, Blissey completely outlasts more than half the Pokemon existent, which includes all special attackers and even some weak physical ones. Second, Blissey can heal your Pokemon outside of battle so you actually save items, just use soft boiled to heal your pokemon outside of battle and then run into a wild battle to heal blissey itself. Obviously Blissey can solo the gold battle in pyramid, not the silver one tho.
    But its not just that Swamnpert isnt the best for Pyramid, Swampert isnt even the 2nd best or the 3rd best. The second best is undoubtably Slaking. You dont even have to worry about Truant since youre OHKOing almost everything in the first turn.
    What about the 3rd poosition? That one goes to Starmie. It has Natural Cure and great coverage + Recover.
    Id argue that Swampert isnt even toop 5. Milotic is a bulky water type with Marvel Scale and Recover, Lati@is a opowerful special sweeper with recover, Alakazam is mactuaslly pretty good because not only does it have great coverage and Recover, but it is the only reliable user of Teleport, which is great to run away from battles.
    The highest I can rank Swampert is Top 6, maybe Swampert is better than Alakazam just bc Alakazam is fraile

    Instead of looking at these OUs in Smogon it would be cool to see them in Showdown. You can go into team builder for 3rd Gen and the list of moves is filtered to most common/best options. Often including the 70 power hidden power types which is cool but unrealistic in the GBA cartridges 🤙

      I used smogon just for illustrative purposes, rather than showing something random while talking about pokemon. 6 VS 6 Singles is a whole different animal than the Battle Frontier, a lot of sets, tactics and moves reccomended on showdown and smogon wouldn't work in the frontier.

    Been running choice band EQ metagross, Stall Blissey and setup latios (blissey and latios from adedede iridescence team) Seems to be going well. If metagross can’t kill or it’s a flying type I just growl stall with blissey and then setup with latios. Only problem I’ve come across is something doubleteam/minimize stacking on me and missing 16/16 dragon claws. Which is just so unlucky it’s almost funny. I also have the skarmory with torment/roar and protect but it’s just so slow for me I swapped it for metagross

    Use explosion on metagross. With only 3 pokemon its insanely hard to cover for everything. Explosion is a fantastic delete button.
    Agility also works great with explosion.
    Then metagross, even at lowish hp will be fast enough to explode on the next pokemon coming in

      I can confidently say that you did not even try it and I stopped watching your video when you started about using recovery and not rest on milotic which is a huge red flag.
      Agility on its own? Yeah wouldnt run that here in BF. But if you run explosion as well? Then its great since it allows you to get your explosion in even when metagross is on its last few HP. As a item here punus berry so it wont get crippled in the process.
      And even when the next mon is a gengar you can still get a strong meteor punch in if you are fast enough.
      The results speak for themselfs. I got huge win streaks using that set.
      And explosion is just an awesome problem resolver. 250 base power + the hidden effect of being calced with a opponents mon halfed def + metagross huge atk stat...even skarmory get heavily dented by that. It makes metagross basically a 1:1+ pokemon where you are pretty much always able to take out at least one, sometimes more (especially if meteor mash gives a atk boost and you agility boosted) and take out stuff metagross typically wouldnt be able to take out.
      Also think of it this way:
      Metagross isnt a fast pokemon. So if the opponent is faster than you to beginn with then you dont waste a turn by using agility since it will be:
      Opponent > You (agility) > You > Opponent > You >
      I would still recommend to run EVs so you outspeed opposing metagross and some other slower threats without the agility boost
      And to learn the movesets of opposing teams so you know when you should or should not set up. For just getting gold this is of course a bit overkill. But if you aim for high winstreaks its mandatory

      @martinerhard8447 I got all the gold symbols on cartridge and I never resorted on having all of the AIs movesets in front of me except for the Frontier Brains. The only Gold Symbol I'm missing is for the Battle Factory in Platinum/HGSS. You don't have as much experience as me and that goes for the smartass youtubers emulating, giving themselves handicaps and making videos acting like experts. I expecially laugh at the ones giving themselves world records on the factory. I'd like to see them pull this off in the gen 4 factory. You can watch several of my Gold and Silver battles on my Battle Frontier playlist. I'm actually legit and have been pursuing the Gold Prints and Symbols on and off from my teenage years to my late 20s. There was no need for me to mention rest because Recover on Milotic is the more superior option. There is a reason why that type of Recovery is coveted on the pokemon that get those moves and most pokemon can learn rest. Risking missing with Explosion against Brightpower and pokemon using protect and losing a coverage move while forcing your opponent to kill the Metagross. That's not even getting into the battle palace and exploding into resists and ghosts. Skarmory cannot touch Metagross. You can keep using Meteor Mash or any other move and you will eventually take it down. Especially with a boost. Once again you've made a statement that shows me your surface level understanding. Making sure you stay alive is everything. Now of course Explosion is an option and has some benefits too. Wasting a third coverage move with Agility is amateur.

      Blablabla...recovery is better (then you dont provide a reason but just say there is one)...blablabla
      Tell me the reason? Also most pokemon dont have marvel scale duhh. What a bad way to argue. Let me guess you just looked on smogon which sets to use and thought those competitive use sets must just apply here right? lol
      I am happy I didnt watch further there is probably even more bs in there.
      Also obviously you dont run explosion in battle palace where you cant control it. You also dont run it in pike and pyramid where you are not healed after each battle (just stating this since for you obvious things are obviously not obvious).
      Explosion is a huuuge coverage move that lets metagross kill way more than it should which is awesome since full coverage with 3 mons is pretty hard. And without agility the rather slow and predamaged metagross will just be picked off by the next mon which just amounts to a 1:1 basically. And if you were experienced you would know at least the sets that run protect.
      Also gold symbols are nothing special. What is special is high win streaks of more than double of what is required for gold. And while pp stalling is by far the most consistent method for that it is also boring and tedious.
      Skarmory was just a example for how powerful that explosion is. But if you want a scenario where you really want to use it: It will also kill a snorlax after it has already cursed 3 times.

    So, an opinion on slaking....slaking, in my opinion, is the absolute best for 2 gamemodes. For battle pyramid and battle pyke. Because he can literally one shot every single thing (even with return) and every battle is a 1v1 he can solo pretty much most of the rooms. In battle pyke you also have rooms with wild pokemons which he can easily clear. The other gamemodes make him a bit risky to use but I def would recommend him for the mentioned modes above. Also I dont know if he mentioned but latios is an absolute menace as well

    I liked using a team of shedinja / skarmory (with sturdy) / latias to complete the tower. The 3 synergise very well and can stop many pokemons with their silly strategies. This counters critical hits, OHKO moves, quick claws, brightpowders, strong normal STABs, stats increase (including double team) that cause a lot of trouble in the frontier
    I'm surprised you didn't mention stall is also viable and carying some counters is mendatory, against normals and double team being a must

    • @SaberWolf94
      @SaberWolf94  ปีที่แล้ว

      Did you get Gold with this team? Shedinja is a lot of luck riding by default with all its weaknesses and you automatically lose a pokemon if your opponenet has a move to hit it or even something random like Sandstorm, Tyranitar or Hail. I'd never reccomend Shedinja. Outside of the Palace which you've no choice but to ride your luck stall is very risky in my opinion as you getting a crit or status hax is not the same when your opponent does. The more your stall the higher the chance of that happening and that will end a long streak. The only stall pokemon I used were Cradily and Milotic in the Palace. Fixating on OHKO moves and random luck with Brightpower or Double Team isn't the mindset to have as those are the factors you can ride your luck with since they're not consistent. Having a well rounded team and a lot of power more reliably allows you to deal with all the variety of standard pokemon trying to kill you. Even when I face a pokemon that starts to use double team, they rarely get their as even if I miss a few times eventually my big attack from something like Metagross will hit, so wasting a slot on Airial Ace or Shock Wave just for those situations isn't worth it either. I've acquired all the Gold Symbols since this video so I'm confident in my methods but you're free to favor stall tactics if you want.

    • @-Nayomie-
      @-Nayomie- ปีที่แล้ว

      This team takes advantage of how the AI is designed in emerald
      Leading with shedinja and scouting with protect can quickly tell what the AI can use to threaten it. The AI really prefers using offensive moves to deal with shedinja, and will try to attack it with a move or switch to a pokemon having one, it doesn't take indirect damage into account for some reasons
      Latias can switch easily into fire and rock moves aimed at shedinja and skarmory switches into ghost, dark and flying moves. Shedinja can switch into the boltbeam combination aimed at the other 2. Scouting a lot with protect is important and you can easily take down shedinja's answers as the AI doesn't switch out like a normal human would. Latias and skarmory can win many matchups with the dragon and steel types combined. Charm on Latias and toxic stall with skarmory is suprisingly effective and many things fall to that strat
      I got the gold symbol in the tower with this team, but I would only use it for the tower, the other facilities limitations cripple it too much
      Against double team, you have options like toxic, sandstorm from tyranitar and leech seed, with outstalling as a last resort. Toxic in particular can enable passing a wall, Blisseys coming in mind first

I was thinking about Kingdra like you said but I'm not sure. Other Pokémon are Swampert and Metagross with the usual move sets. You've answered your own question there. Since Kingdra and Swampert have only one and different weaknesses it doesn't matter that they're both water type. Coverage between the 2 will be similar but Swampert also has Earthquake which makes a big difference. Having another water type or something with Thunder is good because you get another pokemon that can benefit from Kingdra's Rain Dance. No matter what Kingdra is a top pick of mine but if you're really not keen on having 2 water types I mentioned plenty of other special attackers in this vid.

Charizard is a very risky pokemon to use with many weaknesses and it's only gonna get harder and harder as you climb. It won't be any good against Salon Maiden Anabel either even if it has Brick Break for Snorlax it's still more risk than good. Check this video for a guide on each facility I made it when I had 4 gold symbols but the information still stands. th-cam.com/video/H2BjjaPLEWM/w-d-xo.html All I can tell you for Charizard is at least have it as a second or third pokemon because as your opener you increase your chances even more to have a bad start with its weaknesses. Tower is pretty straightforward, your best bet is using the types of pokemon that I mention in these videos making little to no mistakes and wishing for a little bit of luck. I think your strategies could be improved
    Milotic>Vaporeon because it gets Recover, and is faster. Suicune is nice with Calm Mind but has to be hacked, and there are better CM sweepers
    Aerial Ace> Sludge Bomb or Shadow Ball on CB Metagross. This hits Grass types, Shedinja, and gives you a counter to Evasion cheesers like Chansey. For everything besides Slowbro and starmie, Mash = 150 damage vs 160 for super effective Shadow ball
    Explosion (Boom) Metagross is amazing because if you're in a 2v1 it's nearly riskless to click it and safely end the battle.
    Latios does what Starmie and Kingdra do better all in exchange for -5 speed to Starmie. But I did catch that you're doing this legit no hacking, getting a good Lati is hard but far worth it. Has great defensive qualities, Calm Mind, far stronger, the same coverage. And a boostable STAB with no immunities
    It's kinda boring that everyone uses Lati/Metagross/Water but it is the most consistent and efficient team. For true consistency Skarmory is an alternative to Metagross.

    • @SaberWolf94
      @SaberWolf94  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You missed out on some of the things I said. I never said Vaporeon is better than Milotic, in fact I listed Vaporeon as an alernative that's almost as good but a lot easier to get. Unless you already have it Feebas isn't the easiest pokemon to get in gen 3. And nevertheless Vaporeon is better than Milotic at a few things, stronger special attack and Water Absorb is more useful in the frontier as an ability. Dealing with Evasion is overrated, if a pokemon doesn't really learn anything better than Aerial Ace or get STAB at least I wouldn't bother with it. Against pokemon that do Double Team all day if you keep attacking eventually you'll hit and kill them, that's been my experience. It isn't so bad to drop for Sludge Bomb but even then I'd trade it for Rock Slide instead. Explosion is not at all riskless and I explain my stance on it in the video. It is not a bad option but it has genuine drawbacks and is a major risk against protect. It is not the same as a Focus Sash Azelf carrying Explosion in gen 4 which I do favor on that pokemon as an excellent starter. Kingdra is hands down the most reliable and consistent pokemon in the Emerald Frontier always contributing something before it goes down even if you do have a Latios with perfect Ivs Rain Dance Kingdra outclasses Latios in many ways. Without Rain Dance, yes Kingdra is less useful than Latios and Latias. Since I made that video I've acquired all of the Gold Symbols including Battle Palace so I'm confident in my methods. Regirock was a key pokemon in that fight. Got the battle on the channel as well.

    Salamence is faster than most Pokemon in the frontier and can sub in front of them to dragon dance to the max, and if the pokemon ur in front of prevents salamence from setting up, again, thats why you have teammates for.
    Salamence is one of if not the best dragon dancer in the game, x4 weakness isnt that big of a deal given Salamence's benefits

      Let's say you're facing a Walrein something that could obviously be carrying Ice Beam (never mind all the pokemon that could be carrying it that are not obvious). You switch to the Metagross as you say. If everything went according to plan you still got a free hit with a small chance to freeze. Your opponent got a free move in regardless. Now imagine Walrein hit the Metagross with Surf or Sheer Cold and hit. Your metagross got softened up big time for no reason, or even died while you still have the Salamence that you wanted to switch out of the Walrein. This is only one example. I'll ask again did you actually get the Gold Symbols even with your frame manipulation methods? From my experience you very rarely want to switch so why put yourself in a position like that? Like I said Ice Beam is very common so Salamence always carries a huge risk in most facilities. Kingdra, Zapdos, Milotic and other pokemon are just less risky. It's not about Salamence or Dragonite being weak but about mitigating things going wrong as much as you can. There is nothing an opening Kingdra can't hit for at least neutral with Surf, Ice Beam and Dragonbreath without carrying Salamence's risks. It will even live against a dragon claw from a latios. These are the kind of merits I looked for to mitigate risk when learning what the best pokemon to use are.

      Doesn't matter as you don't want to be switching around if you don't absolutely have to. I'm assuming you're talking about Salamence or Dragonite right? A lot of random pokemon could be carrying ice beam never mind almost every water pokemon learns that too. I'd rather not be guessing and taking risks with them when there are much safer options. I say this with Salamence actually being my number 1 favorite pokemon.

    • @darcash1738
      @darcash1738 ปีที่แล้ว

      Im actually using it with my favorite psuedo-psuedo legendary(could be if not for stats), flygon. I love dragon/ground type because of its great defense and offense.
      I hold the same sentiment w/my favorite marshy boi swampert bc of water's great defensive benefits, but since I chose him in Omega ruby--which was actually my first pokemon game--going back and emulating emerald, I chose Treeko.
      As for the most common ice beam users, I find that beyond just ice and water, it's usually just psychics and gengar. Although I did find a niche Tyranitar set with it, which I found hilarious.. They really try to screw you over any way possible in battle tower 😂 I wonder if he had a special increasing nature just for that lmao
      So the ice coverage is very predictable for the most part, and I built this one max pp sheer cold walrein leftovers set so he can take down other water or ice types(except starmie, who runs thunder too much for this to be reliable). With 8 pp, the probability of NOT hitting at least one sheer cold is .7^8, or 5.76%. With leftovers he can easily tank, and with Retroarch's built in speed up option, it's not too tedious when the rng is not on your side.
      Out of the possible Stab earthquake users raw power in descending order, there's Rhydon, Swampert, and then Flygon. I don't like Rhydon's weakness spread and Swampert would otherwise be my number one choice. But ngl swampert is such a good starter that he would've trivialized the emerald playthrough 😅
      TLDR: My head cannon is that Walrein's hidden ability is immortality and can allow for a safe switch-in when the Earthquake sweep doesn't work. If that doesn't work, choice band Explosion on Metagross is quite humorous.

      @@SaberWolf94 most people play by emulator now. Sheer cold is mainly a counter to their stall teams, which I absolutely despise. Better to not waste the metagross explosion early if they happen to have another tank as their third slot. When it’s bulky water vs bulky water, both with leftovers, it’s essentially a draw without sheer cold. Even if their milotic happens to know toxic, they’re still way too slow to kill walrein 🤪
      I agree sheer cold is usually used in a gimmicky way, and it seems that conditions and ohko moves proc more than they should for opposing Pokémon. Still, its basically like using a 95% accuracy move if you have to use all 8 pp(funny side note here, walrein can also learn fissure as an egg move, so if someone really wanted to, he could have 16 pp worth of ohko moves)
      I did use a milotic build in platinum with the real cartridge, but I don’t see a sizable enough benefit over walrein to go fishing for an hour 🤣. I might’ve opted for a hail set if blizzard was already 100 accuracy in hail by Gen 3, but since it’s not, sheer cold actually has way more utility.
      Once I get bored of walrein, I’m thinking of trying some of your suggestions tho. Do you have to trade for Tyranitar and Zapdos?

      Not at all, this is not 6 vs 6 singles. When you're trying to get super long streaks having one less coverage move almost forces you to explode, even if metagross has close to full hp if your 3 other moves won't be effective on your foe. If this was a focush sash azelf in the gen 4 frontiers then yeah, I used that as the role is much different. I'm not saying it won't be the best move sometimes but you can't afford to be that reckless with metagross in emerald.

      @@SaberWolf94 Not sure what “coverage” is more important than a OHKO move. No way Brick Break or Shadow Ball are more important than Explosion. MM with STAB already hits harder than super effective BB or SB, so you don’t need those moves which are a waste of a move slot if you’re sacrificing Explosion. Explosion from Metagross is guaranteed to knock out 1 Pokémon. The whole idea with Metagross is that you 2-for-1 or 3-for-1. EQ, RS, and MM will generally always knock out 1 Pokémon, then you explode before you’re knocked out by the following Pokémon. Coverage is not that important if your coverage options are so low power like BB or SB.

If they carry Calm Mind that's very risky so I'm guessing you'll go the Explosion route. I'd rather not do that, usually Metagross can put in a lot of work on its own and even if you don't explode if you send out a faster pokemon to deal with your damaged foe then it won't make much different. I'm more cautious, as I've said it makes more sense to me to use Explosion on something like a Focus Sash Azelf.

      I think I make that very clear if you watched the video. All the people emulating the game on PC making videos about how awesome they are with their streaks on the Frontier are not actually the most skilled players. By emulating the game on PC they use methods to set the frames of the game and control the type of pokemon showing up in the Battle Factory etc. Most of them also play while having all of the available teams and movesets in front of them which is like taking an exam with the answer sheet next to you. I look at that as cheating but it's on them if they want to have an easier time and have fun. With the frame setting trick you can also make shiny pokemon appear, make mirage island appear etc. I look at that as cheating. For gen 3 I bred and caught all the pokemon I used in the wild. A few of them had close to perfect IVS (outstanding potential range 150+), one of the 2 metagross I used had perfect IVS and some of them were even in the superior range (between 130-150 I think it's how it goes). I trained up and bred more than 50 pokemon that I didn't even use but those memories were great because I love playing the gen 3 games. The biggest fun and reward of the Battle Frontier apart of getting all the symbols is the journey there, the fun of training pokemon to level 100 etc. You don't need perfect pokemon to get all the Gold Symbols (in gen 3 at least) and anyone that tells you otherwise has a lack of skill and isn't using the best teams and moves. Obviously even if you don't misplay there's times your opponent will get a double crit in a row and other bad luck moments like that but if you try enough and actually know what you're doing it's possible as I've done it. The only thing I did in gen 3 to make my life a little easier is use the clone glitch in emerald to get extra master balls, pp max and some TMs but that's it. This way you can soft reset for some strong legendaries much faster. Now for gen 4, there are a lot more variables given the available moves, items and strong pokemon and getting an 100 streak in the tower might be impossible without perfect pokemon. I had an Action Replay for Diamond and Pearl and used to do a lot of wi fi battling so the pokemon I used for my Gold prints in HGSS and Platinum were caught to have perfect IVs.

Starmie is a good fast pokemon to use to finish off your foes and it will benefit from Rain Dance too but with Zapdos you can make use of Thunder in the rain which is deadly. Metagross and Latios are strong Pokemon, depending on the frontier brain you're trying to beat one will be better than the other. Be wary though the rain could work against your metagross. This is why battle videos of the frontier brains on my channel aren't of great quality as I record them directly with my camera. Seeing as it's just a short battle though with a frontier brain it's not so bad and I want to have them archived on youtube. Number 2 is that I've already acquired every Gold Symbol except for the Palace one which I've come close so there isn't any point of me getting streaks in any of those other facilities outside of getting battle points. It's fine if you think you suck but the only way to get better is to play, practice, fail and start again. Sets like that work differently in that type of format. It is the same reason Spikes wouldn't be good either and using Agility on Metagross when you won't be set to sweep damaged pokemon. I dont care even if milotic doesnt attack at all. I just rest again and repeat until the opponent is wittled down due to stab surfs or toxic.
      In a 6vs6 single its the exact opposite. Due to the constant need for switching and reset on rest sleep turns here recovery is used more and this is why you see recovery used on smogon for the competitive pvp set example.
      But npc players only very rarely switch and with only 3 pokemons there are only 2 other options to switch to compared to 5 in a 6vs6.

    You forgot some things though. Sceptile is an AMAZING 1v1 pokemon with leech seed, protect, substitute and double team. If the enemy team doesn't use agility or any other move that outspeeds you, you basically won. I've achieved gold with him on the tower, dome and I even used him in the final battle in the pryamid. They didn't stand a chance against this bs tactic.
    Speaking of bs, you forgot a fantastic pokemon: Smeargle. You can use him either for a baton pass support pokemon, with belly drum, substitute and spore, OR an offensive one, with spore, substitute (or something like agility if you want), lock-on and OHKO moves like sheer-cold. Of course you wouldn't use him starting off, as you mentiond in the video, many have something like a lum berry/chesto berry, but once you know they used it up, and the enemy pokemon has less than base 75 speed, you basically won.
    I would also put Wobbuffet in there, with destiny bond you're basically guaranteed that they either they die, or you both do, but either way they always die.
    Also, for the sake of anybody's sanity, just play on an emulator with save states...I mean honestly who gives a damn anyway? This game is what? 20 years or older now? Some of the RNG in this game is honestly devilish like, so I say screw that and just use save states. Fun is what you make it out to be

    • @SaberWolf94
      @SaberWolf94  ปีที่แล้ว

      Save states defeat the whole purpose of the streak system. If you want to do that it's fine but it's not the same as doing it as it was intended on authentic hardware. I've said other time before too, probably half the fun is the preparation journey itself, givening yourself an excuse to train a bunch of pokemon. The only pokemon I really forgot were the Latis, they escaped my gaze on the site because they're in Uber and I forgot about them. They go without saying though even if I forgot. The pokemon you mentioned are extremely gimicky and actually not consistent at all, hence why you're confident talking about them along with save states. Sceptile could be used as an alternative cleaner to Starmie, but you're better off with Starmie if you'd go the cleaner route on the third slot. Even Gengar and Alakazam do the job better. The whole point of Substitute sets is the fact your opponent will switch giving you that free turn to start your set up. This is not singles OU. You're essentially trying to get lucky with that Double Team Sceptile set. If you're using substitute while I'm hitting you you'll never get that set up. If you go for leech seed first, if I use a strong enough attack sceptile is dead in one shot. The other two examples are even worse, especially Wobbuffet, the definition of trying to get lucky. You would never be able to get 50-70 streaks with pokemon like that without save states, i.e soft cheating the system.

      @@SaberWolf94 Honestly, fuck the system. It's downright broken and you need luck either way. Don't get me wrong, I got the gold on at least 3-4 in the legit way using the pokemon described in my previous post, but things such as the battle tower are a prime example why I would never attempt such bs without save states. So you're on the 60th round or so, and you have Metagross, Swampert and Latios. And you lose...because of a quick claw fissure three times in a row type of bs. And then redo the WHOLE things again only to be very likely screwed over by an equally bs manner? No, I say fuck that.
      I agree with you, I had far more fun actually breeding for perfect IVs and such, getting the correct movepool and all. But you can't say emerald is any any shape or form "fair". Fact of the matter is, you need to have good RNG either way. So what's the point then? If all leads to good RNG, and you mitigating that in your best possible way using your ideal pokemon and still lose 40% - 50%, that's simply a waste of time. Now I'm not sure about you, but to me that's not fun. This is a game after all, and as I said, fun is what you make it out to be. "Cheating the system"...I mean sure. YOU control the parameters with which you work with, and the self-imposed restrictions YOU have put on yourself. Look at blissey's videos from just a while back, in which he mentions how not hacking the game had wasted him so much time, and as a matter of fact, you NEEDED to hack to be competitive in the first place if you really wanna go that route.

For the emerald battle frontier though it's not as dramatic as you make it out to be. The quick claw Horn Drill example has been overplayed and overexaggerated so much, there are so many more other things more likely to get in your way than that that are within your control. Things like 2 critical hits in a row have happened to me and yeah it sucks but it's part of the challenge. The only facility where I really think it's bullshit is the Factory in Platinum and HGSS. With all the varriables by then in gen 4 it was really stupid of them to want to have to get a 49 streak as after all these years it's the only facility I haven't received gold yet and I wonder if I ever will.

      Quick claw was one example, and whether it's an overused one at that doesn't diminish the point as there are many others: RNG heavy battles, less actual skill/skill expression or complete lack thereof. But a nearly 20 year old game that is so heavily flawed in the design of the game itself requires quality of life adjustments. That's not an opinion, that's a fact from gamefreak itself. The changes made by the other generations aren't random, they are lessons learned from prevoius gens and the community. Further prove of what is actually allowed in pokemon competitive battles are on smogon rules. You would just have to compare and contrast that, the current with what's on emerald. Point is, nobody plays games like emearld anymore anyways with that kind of game design UNLESS you have appropiate adjustments, i.e. in this case safe-states. If you're going to retort with "that's not how emerald was intended to be played", you can save that reply, as gamefreak by design will disagree with that. The battle frontier isn't even part of the actual game, it's a post game experience to get a glimpse of competitive pokemon. Perfect IV breeding, EV training, TM and HM learning design just to name a few.;they all have transformed over the years by gamefreak. You can transfer back your perfect OU OP IV pokemon back into emerald. That's cheating too or just pokemon being pokemon? Seems to me like you arbitarily draw the line of what cheating is and what it isn't based off your own false preconsumptions on how the emerald battle frontier ought to be played. What does Alakazam have over gengar? Speed, CM and Stab? Besides Arena and pyramid, theres not a single battle facility where a team with Alakazam is better than a team with Gengar, its not even close, Swampert is closer to being the #1 Pokemon in Pyramid than Alakazam to being better than Gengar, thats how unbelievable worse is Alakazam than gengar. I guess you can do some trick choice band crippler thing? and then put thunder wave, disable on it? then taunt? I imagine thats possible but Ive never seen anyone do it and Im certainly not gonna do it any time soon
    Maybe Dome? you could technically succeed with it there? but why would you ever in your life use Alakazam when you can use Latios?
    Gengar has 3 immunities, which is already key for pivoting, Gengar has access to destiny bond which is super valuable. A Pokemon which such a wde coverage that has access to destiny Bond is essentialy a Pokemon that wil almost never die without at least eliminating 1 Pokemon, and in most cases its 2, one with your offensive moves and one with destiny bond. It aint just that, gengar has access to taunt, which Alakazam can use too but at that point ur just wasting your time using taunt on Alakazam. As I was saying, Gengar is pretty good at preventing statos on your ally Pokemon in double battles, and it doesnt even need protect sinc e its immune to both earthquake and explosion, which is a rather unique trait no other relevant Pokemon has in the game (sorry Misdreavous). It even has access to perish song which in doublesis pretty useful as an emergency button
    I mean its not ewven close, Gengar is so much more versatile than Alakazam its even laughable to compare em, tbf they dont even fit the same role, Alakazam's role is more comparable to Lat@s, Gardevoir (whos bad besides some crippler team), Raikou, Espeon. "Its Impossible to get perfetc IVs without cheating"
    Stop the cap bra, we know what ur doin, RNG manips and ACE are NOT cheating, stop it.
    Stop misinforming people, youll make them waste their time and use suboptimal Pokemon just because you did but nah thats not fair.
    RNG manip is possible in retail, you dont need to modify the roms or the saves with external programs, all you need to know is how to use some calculators and a timer, which are the equivalent of using a damage calculator in a battle.
    ACE or ASE is also possible in retail and all you need is a youtube tutorial to tell you how to do it, nothing else. Training a Pokemon does not require skill, it only requires time, and RNG manipulating a POkemon is just as tedious as leveling up, specially when u aim for a frame thats not in the seed 0, aka paintings.
    None of these methods give you an unfair advantage. The Pokemon are still legal its not like I have a Salamence with Drill Peck or something.
    As long as ACE gives you something you can get without it, its totally fair, since spending 6 hours on killing wild Pokemon doesnt make me more skilled, and soft resetting without a clue doesnt make you more skilled either, specially in Emerald where the initial seed is always 0 so soft resetting is actually useless.
    And RNGd Pokemon are allowed in VGC. As long as the Pokemon you ACEd is obtainable by RNG manipulating, then its totally fair to use it.
    A quick example:
    It is impossible to catch a modest wild Horsea with optimal IVS and perfect Hidden Power Grass or Electric in Emerald, you can get one but the Hidden Power is 68, not 70. If you want to run a 100% optimal Kingdra, you either forget running Hidden Power or you breed one.
    An optimal Kingdra with perfect powere HP gtrass or electric caught in the wild would actually be cheating, but if it came from an egg then its not

      On a previous comment you said you didn't use any of these methods now you say you do. You can do it to save time, but you still used a shortcut and an external device. That is cheating in my eyes. Now for gen 4 I had an action replay so I had my pokemon have 31 IVS and saved time like you say but it is still technically cheating. I haven't misled anyone and it's true that you don't need perfect IVS to get the Gold Symbols in gen 3. I have done it. I didn't use Hidden Power on Kingdra, didn't need to. And yes, you prove my point once again, you can't get an exact Hidden Power you want unless you get mega lucky with breeding (very difficult) or you do the RNG tricks you talk about, which is cheating.

      And on gen4 you used an action replay, which is indeeed cheating. But you know whats the difference? That Action replay is an EXTERNAL TOOL, its hardware and software that directly interacts with the game by modifying the RAM memory. And maybe its a reach, but I am pretty sure that if you tried to participate in a VGC tournament with any of the mons you got with your action replay, they would instantly be detected as illegal and wouldnt even pass the hack checks, thpose Pokemon you got with Action replay wouldnt be able to be accepted in Pokemon Home, you know why? Listen, if you want to get perfect ivs and save time using that method fine but it's still techincally cheating, especially if you have to use a computer to do that like Tama Hero did.

      @@SaberWolf94 Now time to actually explain this to you.
      See the game runs at 60 frames per second, and the random number generator method used in wild encounters is 32 bits. This means that the game can only possisibly generate 4 294 967 269 combinations of Gender, Nature, Ability and IVs. Do you know how many possible combinations of these are actually possible? 53 687 091 200 combinations. That means that a whopping 49 392 123 931 combinations are impossible to generate for the game unless its an egg ofc, every combo is possible in eggs.
      What I meant when i said that a wild modest kingdra with optimal IVs and perfect hp grass or electric is impossible, is that the spread is one of thosr 49 billion spreads the game cannot possibly generate.
      What I tried to say is that ACE is cheating only if you get impossible spreads like those, not if you get spreads you would be able to get with RNG.
      I agree that its not necessary to run perfect IVs to get the symbols, but that doesnt mean you shouldnt get them, nor does it mean its cheating to get them.
      Now Id like to hear you defend why RNG Manipulation and ACE are cheating. Actually elaborate, shooting yourself in the foot by running suboptimal Pokemon doesnt make you a better player, its like that argument of "use your favorites to win"
