More to come! I like it as well but there are still many things missing for me. I hope there are frequent updates to getmit to where Captivate Classic is today.
Number one: I love these tutorials, you are a God send for people like me new to my adult educator role and Captivate. My question is regarding text boxes, when I try to move them they are anchored to the whole page. Is there a workaround for this or will I need to stick to the premade template designs?
Because Captivate 12 is responsive design there isn't much that can change as far as layout. This is somehting that Adobe is working on to improve and I think it's next on their timeline of updates.
Hi Paul! Thank you so much for your content! I have a quick question about buttons. Can you show us how to disable a button upon entrance on a new slide and the it becomes enabled once all the content on the slide has been completed. I know the setting is already built in for a widget, but what if the slide does not use a widget. Let's say a drown down menu. How can we disable to next button until the user interacts with each drop down item?
In the interaction portion of the properties inspector, you can use the action to disable and enable any interactive object (such as a button). If you need help with this, you can purchase some one-on-one time with me, and I can review it with you. bit.ly/Cp1on1
Hi, can I add a search box by adobe captivate in which the the people can enter a words for search for a specific words? I know that captivate is use for interactive teaching but a "search box" is also important.
@aabb-uc6hu, There is a search function in the table of contents feature within Adobe Captivate Classic. If this is something you need added to the current version of Adobe Captivate, let Adobe know by visiting adobe.com/go/cp_user_voice and filling in the form.
There is a way to do this *Captivate Classic* . It's called branching. It only includes questions in the final quiz that the user visits. While working at the Toronto International Airport, I used this feature to have quizzes for employees from different terminals. There were small differences between procedures, so a few questions differed. To turn this feature on for a project, you can click on the Quiz dropdown menu, select *Quiz Preferences* , then select the *Quiz > Settings* category, and select *Branch Aware* . Generally speaking, features from the old Captivate are planned for the new Captivate (at some point) but I would still suggest putting in a request for this feature at: captivate.uservoice.com/forums/939318-adobe-captivate-feature-requests
I spent like an hour trying to work out how to move two buttons apart. I had no clue that there would be a hidden menu when you hover over a greyed out menu option. 🤦 Thanks so much for making these videos.
This is really helpful. As someone new to this, I do not understand how to change the text on the actual button. I keep choosing the arrows because the directions are unknown/not clear to me.
Double-click on the button itself. Also, make sure you update Captivate to the latest version. There was a bug with renaming buttons in earlier releases. Click on *Help* and then *Check for Updates*
Thank you for the video, I've been using Captivate for a few years now and it's my favourite for content creation and your videos have been invaluable. The Company I design for like their logo on at least the opening slide and I usually put this in the top left corner, with the new Captivate, I cannot see how I can do this as you can't put one box on top of another other (This will take some time to get used to and I can see in the long term that it will make courses quicker to make, but I feel some of the control has been taken away). I am looking to see if I can size a box down but as everyone else is, I'm new to this release. Do you have any idea's how I can do this please. TYIA.
Try to use the SVG Media Block. This is scalable and can ensure your logo stays at the top of the slide. One of the reasons this version is less customizable is that Adobe has tried to make responsive design easier to work with versus the old fluid box method that most people struggled with. It does mean you have to give up some of the flexibility.
Thanks for all you do for us Captivate users. I'm trying to make a project to teach a foreign language. Question: can I trigger from a word in a text box: hyperlink, tooltip and/or audio play so when the user clicks on a word in the text box it will say the foreign word for them to learn how to pronounce it. Can the new Captivate do that? If not are there any work arounds?
Hi Ted, In the new Captivate (version 12), you can trigger clicking on a text box but there isn't a way to trigger from an individual word within the text box. For this use the hyperlink feature in Captivate Classic (version 11).
I'm wanting to use the new version. Will they be adding this feature which is critical to the language learning project I'm wanting to develop. Is making 12 on parody with 11 in their sights? When do you think parody will happen and that such would/could be added? It seems pretty basic function to have. Not sure why it's not already in the textbox capability??? BTW Thanks for all you do in helping get us who are just entering the arena started. I've really appreciated your work.
Paul you are an amazing instructor for Captivate. I've appreciated watching many of your videos. I use Adobe Premiere, Audition, and Photoshop on almost a daily basis. After thinking about my learning project of teaching Koine Greek and looking at Captivate 12, with some reservation I've decided to use Articulate Storyline 360. I really would have rather used an Adobe product but Captivate seems to be going backwards to me. Keep helping others. You do a great job!
Is there a way to place the the text block and the media block side by side horizontally instead of stacked vertically on top of each other? Thank you for the video!
No. However check the various design options for media blocks. You may find one that is more suitable. There is a rumour that there might be an improvement in version 12.4 (when it comes out) that gives you greater design and layout controls, however I haven't heard anything official from Adobe at this time.
Hi Paul, I'm having issues with the exit button at the end of the course. The button is set to 'exit course'. In preview mode it works fine, but in the LMS (after publishing as a SCORM 1.2), it doesn't work. Any ideas? Thanks
Does anyone else find the blocks maddening? You have to know this BEFORE you story board. I prefer the easy (not nitty gritty) resize and dragging dropping exactly where you want it.
I’m actually enjoying them. For me it takes much of the decision making out of the equation. I just finished my first project for a client and responsive design was just easier compared to past versions of Captivate.
I'm assuming what I'm trying to do can't be done due to the blocks. I want to have my video full screen and then buttons appear at the end of the video - the buttons layered on top of the video.
Have been enjoying your very helpful videos on New Captivate like I did for Captivate Classic. In Classic, our trainings are often three MP4s added as slide videos: a short 30-second branded video, a training video (which I would distribute across three slides, then trim the ends), and an outro branded video. In new Captivate I am having trouble using interactions to automatically play one slide video after the other as I have done in Captivate Classic. Do you have any advice?
I will be doing a video on Interactive Video at some point but the short answer is that multi-slide video is presently not available. You may wish to return to Adobe Captivate Classic if this is an important part of your workflow. With the new Adobe Captivate you have to add bookmarks where you want overlay slides to exit and add them from the Interactions section of the Properties Inspector.
@@CaptivateTeacher Thank you! I will continue to use Captivate Classic for the time being. I will look for your interactive video video and hope it might include adding bookmarks from the interaction section of New Captivate, which I will explore. I appreciate you pointing me in the right direction.
I'm excited to start using the Captivate 12 for actual work projects but because of the short list of features I know I will still rely on Captivate 11 for some time to come.
hey, Paul! great video! I am learning Captivate for my job and I am quite enjoying it. I have a question... why cant I copy the interactions of the flip container of one of the presets slides? I am trying to make a memory game...
If I understand what you're asking, the actions of the flip card widgets are baked into Captivate. You cannot edit these actions nor can you copy and apply them to other objects. One of the long term goals of Captivate is to allow you to create your own widgets using JSON files at some point. As of today that is something that is in the future. I would love to design my own widgets to create these types of interactions where I get to decide how they behave instead of only using the functionality that is baked in.
In the theme editor, I can see how to change the color of the buttons. However, this does not apply to the round buttons with the arrows. Is there a way to change those button colors in the theme editor?
Thanks again for your videos. One thing I think is insane is there isn't a way to move the image around on the slide. It looks like you have to choose one of their preset designs. Is this correct or am I missing something? I have specific images that cannot be cut off but that apparently isn't an option?
I will have a video tutorial before too long that will show you how to create your own custom design options to add to the ones included with Adobe Captivate.
Hi, is it possible to create mini games inside captivate such as crossword puzzle etc. I'm not sure if captivate is the right tool or does have a capability to do so.
I've seen some people get very creative with Adobe Captivate and build games like Jeopardy, memory games, and so on. It usually requires being very knowledgeable with advanced actions and have a programmers level of knowledge.
You're welcome, and thanks for watching. If you haven't already, please subscribe to my channel and click the bell icon to receive notifications when I post a new video: goo.gl/iuA6Lm

Hello Paul. Thanks for your tutorials. Is it possible to add a tooltip which appears on hover action over a text in this new version of captivate?
That's a great idea. I suggest you include that as a suggestion over here: captivate.uservoice.com/forums/939318-adobe-captivate

There are so many questions that I, too, need the answers to. I know that parity is expected by 2027, but the specifics are anyone's guess.
In Captivate can I put a hotspot over each word I want to make play and audio file or do a tooltip?

Not presently. Ask Adobe for this feature here: www.adobe.com/go/cp_user_voice
