Every time I see Kate Winslet I remember again how I never get enough of her. She's beautiful and talented, smart and funny, charming and imaginative, ....she's everything and I will watch her for as long as I have sight.
Never heard of Lee Miller but so excited to see movie and hear her story. Too many,😢 great, accomplished women are lost to history so glad to have this woman’s story brought to the light.
Over the years, I have watched some amazing documentaries about Lee Miller , the best was a presentation given by her son Anthony Penrose , and in addition to her AMAZINGLY BRAVE photojournalist work in ww2, she was THE MOST AMAZING surrealist photographer and was in a frought but remarkable relationship with Man Ray in Paris. Her photographs were just mind blowing.
She’s one of our greatest living actors but she’s also clearly just a lovely, kind, genuine person. It’s impossible to dislike her because she’s so earnest. She doesn’t take herself or the world too seriously. And she radiates joy. Unproblematic kween.
Hmm. Sadly off camera, several friends who have interacted with her would not agree. She can be a ‘piece of work’ - and not that friendly at all. They have no time for her at all.
So happy Kate Winslet did this very important film about an unknown hero we haven’t known about. I absolutely adore Kate Winslet. I always have. She’s beautiful, incredibly intelligent, and full of warmth and passion. I hope she never retires. We need her work.
Yeah but during this time the movie takes place, they can cast Andy Samberg, who looks exactly like the person he was cast to play. Because "Sandler is too old" - Andy Samberg on late night with Seth Meyers
What a woman Lee was, what an outstanding human being you are Kate. Very anxious to see this movie, Lee's life is worth talking about. Thank you so much x
i knew about Lee ... that picture of her in Hitler's tub ... was puzzled by the picture and found out more. I was fascinated by the extraordinary person. I am so glad this movie was made and looking forward to see it. Thank you for this interview. Kate is always interesting to listen to.
"Mare of Easttown" was so wonderful. A brilliant piece of work. I loved that character so much. I could have gladly spent more time with her in further episodes or another series. But it was a self-contained 'novel' for tv. Well deserved Emmy for that. Totally, totally believable as a small-town american woman and also completely believable as a police officer--one of the most believable I think I've ever seen. God! I loved her in that!
Kate was a huge role model & inspiration to me as a girl in the '90s. It's been incredible to see the career she has had. I love her even more for campaigning for body positivity & fighting age related discrimination against women. She is a true icon and a wonderful human being.
For some of us Lee Miller was never 'lost'. Still, it's good that Kate Winslet put years of effort into bringing this fascinating woman's life into focus for a larger audience. She has been very diligent in making sure the film looks authentic in it's details of the time period and places Lee Miller inhabited.
Agreed.....Lee Miller has been a part of my Life for years.....just finished yet another book on her (and ManRay).....her zest for life and adventure, her Convictions, and Staying True to herself ..... Resounding traits of an Out'standing Women, indeed. Brava, Kate....and Thank You
Watched an old Lee Miller bio yesterday. Until then, I'd never heard of her. Fascinating woman. Had no idea that a film had been made until I just stumbled into this video. Life is strange.
No better choice could be made to play the role of photographer & model Lee Miller than Kate Winslet. Stephen Penrose wrote an amazing illustrated book of his mother Lee's life which is probably at your local library. 🌟
I recently watched Civil War, where they mentioned Lee Miller as an example of a war photographer. It was the first time I'd heard of her. After a deep dive, I thought she was an amazing woman. Looking forward to watching the movie.
Lee Miller was not lost for history in Europe and among famous photographers! There were 2 exhibitions simultaneously about her life and legacy in Den Haag and Rotterdam in 2024.
As a German I would like to see the movie. My family and I have visited most of the concentration camps in Germany and Poland. A very sad experience. May such atrocities never happen again, in whatever country.
Yes, I agree with the comments. One example of genocides was in Cambodia where innocents were slaughtered by the Khmer Rouge and there was Mao's purge of educated people. The case of the Nazis is just one of the more documented horrors. Russia under Stalin was equally horrible, starving Ukranians and many other political atrocities. Mass murder has been with us for a long time often in the name of country or religion. Love, peace and prosperity! I know it's a dream, but you have to have some hope. Karl
Love Kate's body of work, ranging from The Titanic to The Regime, which was a wild limited series. She's become on of the best living actresses, standing beside Dame Judi Dench and Meryl Streep, among others.
Never heard of Lee Miller but I'm excited to check it out based on Kate's excellent breakdown on the woman here. Seriously, this was a great interview that has me intrigued in watching the film & learning more about Miller.
Kate is such a gem. And I'm so excited for Andy Samberg to be in a serious role. I've been pulling for him to do a Mel Brooks biopic that I think could be Oscar bait for years.
Idk about any of y'all but Kate Winslet was my first celebrity crush. Yeah, that scene in Titanic may have had something to do with it. But good lord she's still got it, the woman is simply perfection.
To me Lee Miller is not that obscure...there is a famous self-portrait of her bathing in Hitler's tub and I knew of her through Man Ray's work. I am very much looking forward to seeing this film and learning more about her life!
I've been fascinated by Lee Miller ever since I saw the famous photo of her bathing in Hitler's bathtub in a history book. Lee Miller, together with Dorthea Lange & Margaret Bourke-White are a Holy Trinity of 1930's-40's photography in my opinion. Looking forward to seeing the movie about this remarkable woman, starring the remarkable Kate Winslet.
What an incedible story "Lee" seems to be... wow hope it has some of the before and some of the after because Lee Miller's life seems to be have been a really interesting one.
"Lee" is a must see for me. My dad was at Dachau just after it was liberated. He had photos taken by an Army buddy of his documenting the atrocities that had taken place there, which I happened to find when I was a teen. On a trip to Germany in the 80's, I visited Dachau per my dad's request. Now I wonder if he or his buddy met Lee at that time. He died in 2007. I can't ask him...
Lee is going for Oscars as it should from the clips I've seen. Sadly, Samburg won't get supporting actor because he's considered comedy and not drama therefore "new." I really want to see this movie.
There are SO many impressive women throughout history whose words and deeds have been not just overlooked but actively suppressed by the threatened men who've ruled our societies for far too long.
I remember when the Italian movie “Life is beautiful” (1997) won the Oscar Award for Best Film about the portrayal of the holocaust. A year or so later I saw a candid remark made by Kate Winslet about if someone does a film about the holocaust, Oscar awards seem to appear for all those involved. I see she sees the recipe for winning an Oscar award. I wonder if her efforts will bear fruit.
A Brit whose mum lived thru WW2 in London, I know this story, glad this movie is happening. Thanx KW & I encourage folks to keep putting these stories of women out, like Hidden Figures. We have never been danty lil dum damsels, we have been a part of Everything & men took the credit. See documentaries about all the british women did during WW1&2, you will be amazed.
Wow is right. Can you imagine being a women then doing what she did documenting those invisible people children those who suffered 😢such unthinkable crimes done to them, this affluent talented women sought them out and documented their plight. And her son knew nothing about it, the world knew nothing about it? I would love to find all her photos and bring them to the world finally
If you know Colbert and have watched him for many many years (like yours truly). You will know that Stephen is : Intelligent and Witty but as a Talk Show Host he is NOT the best. He has an annoying habit of Interrupting Some guests. With Ms. Winslet , in this segment. He DOES NOT Interrupt her when she is describing her film!! Some Extraordinary artists do not do a lot of press. These are the Type of Guests you Do Not Interrupt, Only give them The Entire stage.
She is SUCH a captivating speaker, must be such a treat to listen to her tell stories.
Every time I see Kate Winslet I remember again how I never get enough of her. She's beautiful and talented, smart and funny, charming and imaginative, ....she's everything and I will watch her for as long as I have sight.
It's because of her that I keep watching Contagion. Also Sense and Sensibility. She makes every movie better.

Totally agree - extraordinary woman.
