@mikeximenez5285 agreed. They seem to know each other well and vibed just right. Perhaps Malcolm is just better and funnier when challenged to punctuate his point. Sure seemed like it. Was a fun interview, wish there were more like it!
Right there with you on loving our minivan. We had Dodge custom build ours with the largest engine they could fit in it. She was fast! Her name was Clark Kent, because she looked “mild mannered”, she was not. 85 mph her sweet spot. At 265,000 she had to be retired, I still miss her.
I read Mr. Gladwell's books because he is such a meticulous researcher. This person puts more effort into his content than 97% of not just creators, but authors as well! I look forward to reading The Revenge. 🎉
Oh no! I'm that person who corners someone at a party and asks if they'd read the latest Malcolm Gladwell book because there's a chapter on [some topic I find fascinating] and you just have to read it!!
I have read every one of his books (some I listened to--he is a great narrator as well) and listened to every episode of Revisionist History. I think I will be reading his book.
@aaronnelson1191 I couldn’t tell you. I’m only saying you could love sailing and apply to Harvard not having come from a wealthy family. I was on my college sailing team and I was not rich. I see what his point was, but watch out for over generalizations and stereotypes.
Hope to see you at the EDSS reunion next year for those who attended in the 80's. I do remember our march at Corperation Square. Hell no Milliken wont go.!
The moment after the Colbert question: "How would you describe a Malcolm Gladwell book?", it cut to a commercial, with Obama answering: "Five dollars...". Perfect.
The comment about being young again was interesting. I had a customer tell me one time "Oh if i was 21 again" my response was "I don't want to be 21 again I made it out alive the first time it might not go as well a second" LOL
The world needs more Malcolm Gladwell. During the pandemic I scoured the media for his input. I wanted to know what would Malcolm do? So I’ll be reading this book.
Exactly! I too thought his books were interesting, although I noticed they would start out strong and then sort of peter out to a less than satisfying (coherent?) ending. But after seeing him try to "debate" Murray and Taibi, I realized he is at best a 3rd rate thinker whose books probably only represent an editor's polish but otherwise lack real substance.
@@harrisonjay-l5v His main problem is that he's more interested in telling a story than in telling the truth. When facts need to be skewed to make a good story, he's quite happy to do so, perhaps for the “greater good”, or perhaps for his bank account. I don't know. But the point is, because he doesn't live in truth, he struggles in factual debate, and his ego won't let him simply lose, so he feels compelled to attack personally.
@@naryanr That's very insightful! I think you've got it just right. And perhaps that speaks to what I felt was a real characterological thing about him. In the "debate", he sounded so small and petty. Sort of desparate and grasping. It was such an ugly performance. And perhaps unrelated, perhaps not, Gladwell didn't let his teammate, Michelle Goldberg, a highly intelligent, thoughtful, articulate person, get a word in. (Although she could have asserted herself more.)
Gladwell's The Bomber Mafia is great. Truely tragic, but what do we expect from the deadliest aspect of humanity's worst war. I'd thought I knew much about the WWII air war. I didn't.
I read one of his books, don’t remember which one now, but was annoyed when I reached the end as where, after explaining and expanding on his thesis, he then said, “but, maybe not.” I was annoyed that I had spent my time reading everything he wrote and then was told that, well, maybe that wasn’t the case after all. I haven’t read any of his other books since then.
1:08 Pretty wild that Gladwell didn't give an immediate "yes" for this. The guy who built his career writing about data and numbers doesn't know how many hours are in a year? Or does he not consider sleeping hours to "count" towards "dadding"?

Appreciate the warning, thank you
Good point, maybe you should write a book?

MG is an enormous lot of fun! 🥰 The best kind, too. 🤓 How lucky would anybody be to have a conversation with him. ❤️
I had not heard of Gladwell until now, but I'm definitely going to read his books. If Mr. Gladwell and Mr. Colbert do end up "partying", I want in.
If you never heard from Malcolm you are spending your time wrong so far 😂

Me, too.
50 years ago, Malcolm's dad taught me at the University of Waterloo.
An awesome Canadian ! Bravo !
Now, I have to read the book to find out how our opinion of the Holocaust changed in the 1970's!
Hint, it was a television mini Series!
Malcolm is the goat!!!
His books are always a great reading experience, I will definitely be reading this, too!
Just met Malcolm Gladwell watching this and I think he's great. Gonna check audible for those books rn
you won't be disappointed. his books are astonishing. I envy you for the long treat you are in for, reading one after the other.
This interview put a smile on my face. Thank you.
BLINK ! @Malcolm Gladwell 😁 I am a big fan !
I would party with Mr. Gladwell any time and would enjoy it immensely. Other people would undoubtedly give us a wide berth.
Stephen! you are not interviewing well here-don’t give the man grief- good thing Malcolm is who he is ❤
We must have been watching different interviews because the chemistry here was far beyond his usual interview.

It could have gone longer. Stephen needed to calm down, let the man speak.
Malcom Gladwell such a brilliant mind! Read his books 👌
I’m glad to meet Mr Gladwell! What a interesting conversation and fun
Outliers is his best book. But I’m happy to be wrong and say his new book is the best. I’m going to have to check it out!
His new book is really good! I actually just recently picked up Outliers and have been enjoying it so far!
I'm glad he finally found true happiness in the minivan.

"No One Loves The Minivan More Than Me"
My Dad would have written a strongly worded letter over that one.
When I saw the caption of the upload, I was immediately horrified. "More than me"????
He needs to get in line. I loved my minivan for all 17 years I drove it. I cried actual tears when she finally went to the scrapyard in the sky.
Maybe my weird mind, but Gladwell and RuPaul are kinda like cousins, the fabulous one and the subtler one, but both SO MUCH FUN!

I discovered Gladwell when he came on the show in 2016. Something about this interview just felt weird though.
