I have ALWAYS loved Sweet, but this version of Action is DEADLY! NOBODY could do this song better than Sweet, BUT….oh, man did Def Lep SMOKE this tune. So absolutely amazing.
High and Dry is still thier best album. It's thier second ever album, the one before Pyromania. It's easily thier hardest rocking album, it's when the average age of the band was 18. I'm 60 years old and I think it's the best rock album ever made with maybe the exception of Queensryche Operation Mindcrime. If your one of those people that didn't know who Def Leppard was until Pyromania or Hysteria, then back up just a little to 1981 and listen to High and Dry. You will be glad you did.
Hey John I respect your opinion. Interesting story about that album, all of my many so called hard rock and heavy metal friends used to come to my house and hang out a lot because I was a drummer and where I lived volume was not an issue. People knew when they came to my house they would be listening to music. High N Dry was the only record that ever got played where some of my hard rocking heavy metal friends had to get up and leave because they couldn’t take it anymore. It’s an album that separated the men from the boys I guess. Raw as hell. Even to this day I listen to everything loud and when the last song is over I feel like I’ve been in a car wreck and it feels so good. This album never gives you a break. No cheesy ballads just to get a song on the radio. Maybe that’s why I like it so much but I don’t expect everybody else to so yes I respect your opinion. What are some of your favorite bands and albums?
If I remember correctly, it was on the 6th of December 1996,Standard Bank Arena. 3 days before my birthday, still dating my now ex wife. We were right against the security barrier at the stage. The air was thick with spirit. What a concert it was! Just awesome!

Well Steve helped them hit super stardom after hysteria crushed it . He never got to enjoy his success and hard work. And I believe he was a much better lead guitarist then Phil but the show must go on. I also think Vivian is a better lead but you can tell from this concert he’s not getting to shred unless he just joined the band IMO

Def leppard the greatest show on earth. Top notch and drawer at all times. Joe is a true front man. No tricks, gimmicks, ( clowns make-up all over face) not sword dancing, just pulse pounding rock and jamming. The way it should be and the way I like it .🇬🇧
That’s what set them apart from the hair and glam bands of the early 80s. They were just a bunch of talented musicians playing rock, no gimmicks or makeup. That’s why they are so popular to this day.

Def Leppard have been great in different ways numerous times during their career. But as this show demonstrates, they had something *to prove* in 1996. Out of all the times I've seen them, the Slang Tour was the most energy-packed, pound-for-pound. I wish Rick had stayed with his "Acoustic/Electric" Kit for longer (as opposed to his usual "Electric/Acoustic" Kit) and damn was he hitting the throttle pedal next to his Snare Pedal, especially @4:00. And for all who lament Steve and "The Terror Twins" and think that Vivian is a poor substitute, just look at Phil & Viv's faces and just how much fun they're having one their first "real" tour together ('92/'93 was more of a "getting to know you" tour for all involved). And Joe's hair isn't a PoodleMullet, and he's straddling the perfect line of his more "shouting/screaming" delivery of the past and his not-used-enough "Chest Range" of the future. ...if I could go back, I damn well would have seen more than two "Slang" shows. :-/
I don't know if I agree on the most energy packed - 1983, plus both in the round tours were pure energy. Nonetheless, this was their first time playing in South Africa and they were 200% on their A game for it. But, after 3 decades of seeing them on various tours, I think they always try to give their best. Have to totally agree about Phil and Vivian being a lot of fun to watch. It took me a bit to warm up to Vivian, because, one I was young and stupid, and two, who didn't want Steve back, but Viv for me is now just as much of a Lep as the rest of them. P.S. Joe can wear his hair however he wants, mullet or no mullet, no problem.
I don’t know man. Euphoria was a pretty cool tour. That album is still one of my favorites. OTTN and Pyromania are my top two with Euphoria being my third. That guitar tone on that record was so ridiculous.
Ian Perge his acoustic/electric was heavily triggered so was effectively the same as his usual more electric looking kits. Just the visual that was different

My very first def Leppard concert was Def Leppard in 1996 for their Slang tour. It was actually my first ever concert I was just a kid back then. Yeah, hearing a few songs off their Slang album made me so happy. It's too bad they no longer play any songs from the Slang album. I would love to see them do All I want is everything again next time I go see them live. 🙏🏻
This era and these songs had to be so much easier on Joe's throat. Listen to Pyromania and try to sound like that for entire tour , then the next tour , then the next and the next. He can still get it done though. Cheers!

I don’t know man. Euphoria was a pretty cool tour. That album is still one of my favorites. OTTN and Pyromania are my top two with Euphoria being my third. That guitar tone on that record was so ridiculous.
Ian Perge his acoustic/electric was heavily triggered so was effectively the same as his usual more electric looking kits. Just the visual that was different

My very first def Leppard concert was Def Leppard in 1996 for their Slang tour. It was actually my first ever concert I was just a kid back then. Yeah, hearing a few songs off their Slang album made me so happy. It's too bad they no longer play any songs from the Slang album. I would love to see them do All I want is everything again next time I go see them live. 🙏🏻

This era and these songs had to be so much easier on Joe's throat. Listen to Pyromania and try to sound like that for entire tour , then the next tour , then the next and the next. He can still get it done though. Cheers!
