thank you Ben for all this tips. Just purchased my first sliding mitre saw, and have opened the box!! Noooo, I have actually set it up, but, not worked out what is what yet. thought I would check out some beginner videos first.

Yeah the instructions are less than useful on most tools lol. I just got a new mitre saw and if I tried to use the instructions for changing the blade I’d have no idea! Fortunately it’s not my first one so am well versed at it but it really doesn’t help beginners and people new to that specific tool.

Hey! Found this on the beginners Facebook page and recognised the name from yesterday when I posted my first workbench! Thanks for this, thinking of getting a mitre saw soon so I will make reference to this video when I post my first video about it - very useful! :)

Hey dude! Hope you’ve subscribed 😉 I’ve just subbed to you and will give your video a watch shortly too mate.
I know you’ve got a table saw but I’d highly recommend a mitre saw too so that’s a good call in getting one next. It’s loads better for lengths of wood as they just aren’t as easy on a table saw.

@@lionandbear I am indeed, has been great to find a community of UK woodworkers, it all seems to be stateside on YT!
Yeah I have got by by adding a fence extension to the tablesaw, but it adds both time and probably some inaccuracy so I think a Mitre saw is in order! I'll let you know what I pick up :)

Yeah there is a good group of UK guys (and also a few outliers who just like to complain!).
Your saw will definite be better than mine! Mines about 15yrs old lol. I’ll be upgrading it in the future so would be interested to see what you get and why.

@@lionandbear From what I can see one of the most useful functions seems to be trenching, and then the cross cut length. My biggest roadblock is the width of my workshop, a sliding mitre saw seems like it might stick out too far (especially as my tablesaw/outfeed table set up is quite wide already), and the Bosch with the articulating arm is too expensive haha... I think a bit more research and maybe a test set up will settle the debate!

Yeah the type of sliding mechanism will be one of the biggest elements when I choose. I’ve seen various ones from Bosch, Dewalt, Hikoki and Lumberjack tools even do one that looks quite space saving too.
