Yeah that’s what I thought too this is kinda of what I’m look forward to, I’ve played every one of the games and you are always thrown into the town and you have to make sure your friends with everyone and buy cool furniture as well as fossil hunting and the insect/fish collecting, but in this game I want to have that slow pace of two characters and little to really worry about yet, so idk I think it’s perfect for the game
If the only thing you want to do in a video game is walk around with little to no content, then maybe you should consider spending less than $60 on that game.

I understand that these kids aren't making their own money and they can only get their hands on so many games, so the games they do get are very important to them. This is my first AC experience. And I gotta say, my first day was awesome. I like the slower pace and how they make you wait for things. Really makes you look forward to the next day!! A feeing so rare in games these days. Not everything has to be a speed run.
I think going into this game and trying to speed through it is the wrong mentality, I get he needed to review it, but for the normal player, you take each game day as it goes, it’s a relaxing experience and eventually it pays off when you finally progress

I feel you projected the the stress of having to rush through for a review, and that soiled your perspective of the game. It’s true that it’s slow, but that’s very intentional. Gathering resources isn’t supposed to be instantaneous. Rewarding users for rushing through a calming experience is entirely against the point of the game.

Saying it starts slow sounds like you want to "beat" the game. I'm looking forward to a few hours a day and actually participating during holidays when they occur. I'm old now and have way more patience since the cube version.
Patience? IGN employees can't even wait a week before reviewing a game like Animal Crossing. Why complain about a game being slow.. when the game runs on a 24hr/365 day schedule? They think it's CoD and that it should be beatable in 8 hours.
Honestly, the slow start seems like a plus for me. The core appeal of these games for me is seeing your town slowly evolve over time. I can see how reviewing a game on a time budget would make that frustrating though.
i was looking forward to the slow start of the game but in all honesty it is far too slow and has very little direction which means you have to research how to build/craft/improve things every five minutes purely to have the basis of the game (eg villagers a shop, a vault pole and ladders) for ages i was confined to a tiny section of the map where there were so little resources and everything took ages to craft and it took ages to get money which was pretty tedious

I played and beat days gone. It was an excellent game. The story was meh, but the game part of the... Video game was awesome. I defeated every horde, and it's kinda sad that I don't have anything left to do in that game. It was a ton of fun!

I don't know why I bothered watching this. It was so uninformative that you might've just taken bullet points from trailers and stretched them into a review. For every positive thing you said, there was always some caveat that knocked it down. And yet the game gets an almost perfect score. Work harder on your reviews, cause it's this stuff that makes you one of the biggest jokes of video game journalism.

The slow start is actually fine with me. You get to slowly see your town progress in front of you and aren't handed everything at the start. You have to put in work for it!
I've noticed this a lot from highly-anticipated Nintendo properties. Im fairly certain many reviewers are afraid of the potential backlash. Too bad most reviewers lack a backbone when it comes to Nintendo franchises, and will kiss up no matter what. For example, BotW had its flaws....but do you think IGN made note of them? Nope, not really. Whatever they mentioned, they minimized it and passed it on as a tiny issue.

I feel like this guy doesn’t understand the point of animal crossing and why we all love it. It’s meant to be slow and have a gradual progression that takes multiple irl days. Its relaxing, not overwheleming, and feels like you’re actual building up over time

The fact that this says there won’t be a dream suite or an island with mini games seems to obvious of a feature for them not to include, especially with how much they obviously care. Maybe it just takes a very very long time to unlock
I could see it I guess. It was unlocked pretty quickly in NL but that could change. Considering they're doing holiday updates and this is also the Splatoon team who is used to content updates, my theory wouldn't surprise me but hopefully I'm wrong.

I’m actually really excited about the slow start. I’m new to this franchise, so starting slow will help me get used to it. But I also don’t like games that are too flashy and chaotic. For me, gaming is a relaxer. So I think it depends on that audience. You say access to some features are days away, and that actually makes me grateful. That means I can take my time to get where I want to be instead of feeling like I have to rush to achieve everything.

I've always thought the relaxed, slow pace of animal crossing is what gives it its charm

Do you still have to individually select each item even when they are the same item? I was hoping they would change that. That is probably my biggest pet peeve with the series.

I still can’t believe this guys ,even called the game SLOW and still gave it a 9/10. Hey, do you remember Days Gone? If I am not wrong you guys never played the entire game and gave that game a 6.5/10. One of the reasons if I recall correctly was that the game was very slow and the characters of St. John was not cool enough for you guys.
I played and beat days gone. It was an excellent game. The story was meh, but the game part of the... Video game was awesome. I defeated every horde, and it's kinda sad that I don't have anything left to do in that game. It was a ton of fun!

This is a life simulator and is supposed to be slow, Days Gone is an action-adventure horror survival game.
John Castiel slow in terms of pace of story. Otherwise, ohh it’s fast. Very fast when a horde is chasing you.
Ironic how an somebody probably loves hardcore games at ign, but can’t handle a game where you just sort of vibe, if you want a challenge, catch a bee or a tarantula without getting stinged.

This man really spent almost all of the time talking about the purely negative parts of the game, he is not showing an accurate representation of the game from the point of view of someone who loves animal crossing and is patient
it seemed like a vague review to me.
I don't know why I bothered watching this. It was so uninformative that you might've just taken bullet points from trailers and stretched them into a review.
For every positive thing you said, there was always some caveat that knocked it down. And yet the game gets an almost perfect score. Work harder on your reviews, cause it's this stuff that makes you one of the biggest jokes of video game journalism.
How bought you read the actual review from their website then. Rather than watching a slimed down version of their video on here.

And if they really do have an article all written out, then it should've been pretty simple to just use it as the transcript for this. Instead they were just lazy.

The slow start is actually fine with me. You get to slowly see your town progress in front of you and aren't handed everything at the start. You have to put in work for it!

I've noticed this a lot from highly-anticipated Nintendo properties. Im fairly certain many reviewers are afraid of the potential backlash. Too bad most reviewers lack a backbone when it comes to Nintendo franchises, and will kiss up no matter what. For example, BotW had its flaws....but do you think IGN made note of them? Nope, not really. Whatever they mentioned, they minimized it and passed it on as a tiny issue.

He definitely did. AC isn't really a game to speed run, yet he's acting like it should be.
I think hes just being honest. If he were overtly negative he wouldn’t have scored it a 9 which is an outstanding score. He also mentioned a handful of positives, but people dont remember that as well as the criticisms.

I feel like this guy doesn’t understand the point of animal crossing and why we all love it. It’s meant to be slow and have a gradual progression that takes multiple irl days. Its relaxing, not overwheleming, and feels like you’re actual building up over time
He literally just said he's played every animal crossing game up to date. Maybe his play style of animal crossing is different from yours and that's fine.

The fact that this says there won’t be a dream suite or an island with mini games seems to obvious of a feature for them not to include, especially with how much they obviously care. Maybe it just takes a very very long time to unlock

I could see it I guess. It was unlocked pretty quickly in NL but that could change. Considering they're doing holiday updates and this is also the Splatoon team who is used to content updates, my theory wouldn't surprise me but hopefully I'm wrong.
I hope the island mini games return. I haven’t seen or read anything that indicates they’ll be back. Could’ve been a lot of fun especially with the addition of 8 player online.
Updates are happening for this title, which could mean it'll be added later. I don't see why you doubt that so much.
I’m actually really excited about the slow start. I’m new to this franchise, so starting slow will help me get used to it. But I also don’t like games that are too flashy and chaotic. For me, gaming is a relaxer. So I think it depends on that audience. You say access to some features are days away, and that actually makes me grateful. That means I can take my time to get where I want to be instead of feeling like I have to rush to achieve everything.
Sheeesh going by all these comments it's pretty clear that some of you guys properly listen to what he was saying. He said that this one is slower compared to the other AC games hes played. Yes AC games in general are slow to build up, and mind you I do agree that the score he gave the game doesn't match up to everything else he pointed out about the game. I just find it amusing when people don't listen and end up complaining about the wrong things.
