Funny story with the RAM right. I popped open the laptop, found out it was using just a single stick so I thought hey I've got 3 other laptops on me right now, why not yoink a dual channel set from one of them? So I open the Triton 500, saw that the RAM is on the back of the motherboard so I closed it back up. Then opened the new Razer Blade Stealth but it was soldered on so I closed it back up. Then I took out the ThinkPad P1 but it's using ECC so the RAM is incompatible. Ended up opening the Triton 500 again and having to disassemble nearly the entire laptop to test this thing with dual channel.
I appreciate the effort.

Laptop still works, just had to insert the display cable 3 times and it took like 30 seconds to post. Also brought me to the blue windows repair screen but I just picked boot into windows and it seems to work fine. Date and time were like 3 days behind which spooked Firefox.
RIP Acer RAM.

Sir you forget to mension 2 things that
1. The display is having adeptive sync
2. The type c port has a display port 1.4 support which supports g sync

@@impartial6119 bro if u r going to do competitive gaming then yes it will feels a bit slow other wise I suggest you can spend some extra and go with omen 15 as it has much better cooling then tuf and on spending extra u can go to 144 Hz display which has better colour accuracy so go for it.

Edit: i finally got it delivered from Amazon after waiting for 2 weeks, and it's really good for gaming 👍 i am playing Warzone whole day, but yeah u can't play with battery, u will have to plug in the charger in order to play smoothly

When I turned on my A15 (Ryzen 9) for the first time, it failed to boot around 4 or 5 times, it restarted on its own during all these failed boots, and succeeded on its own without my intetlrvention. The lights on the keyboard flashed a couple times, the Asus logo popped up, then just turned off with something that sounded like the hard drive/ssd turning off. Should I be concerned? I had charged it for around 2 hours prior to turning it on.
I have a question I'm curious since the iPad can function as a secondary monitor with the help of Duet app can the Asus laptop Best reviewed here work well with an iPad as a color corrected second monitor to solve the monitor problem if I may ask

Sorry for the noob question so you remove the 3200mhz ram for a 2 ram stick that runs 2666mhz? i have the sam laptop and my problem is the availability of 3200mhz, only thing thats available in my country is 2666mhz ram. Very insightful review btw keep it up!

For everyone that's interested in A15/17, also, if you have SVM enabled (which is very important for me, app development), screen flickering occurs, which is very annoying

On paper, the TUF A15 seems worth it for the money, but the display is a downside for those who do color accurate work like professional grade video editing.
For me, I don't do a lot of color accurate work when I do Photoshop or video editing. Not great but I can live with it. Great video by the way.

great video. I don't game, but I'm looking for a trading laptop. Would you suggest ryzen 5 or 7? also does the graphics card really matter, 1650 ti or a 2060 or is it more important to have 16 gigs of RAM or 24 g b rather than a powerful graphics card for trading? Thanks for your help

I'm actually thinking about upgrading to this laptop more for making videos as suppose to gaming. Keep in mind I have an 11 year old laptop with only 4GB of RAM. Looking to get one at least 16GB of RAM. So far I'm hearing great things for this particular brand and model for what I'm seeking and use. Be great to potentially get this to render my videos much quicker and use a better editing software.
The power limit has to do with the VRMs on the laptop. They tend to get quite hot as there's no way for them to dissipate heat efficiently
How does the display looks generally if you ignore the display's tech specs ?

Very interesting that you got a unit with single channel memory, I was under the impression that all A15s would come with dual channel as standard, since dual channel memory was advertised as standard on their website.

My main problem with this laptop is when I game I can't max out my settings. If I do, it crashes and it's really irritating! If it doesn't exit the game, I get dx3d issues when playing games like Dragonball Z Kakarot.
Even with settings on High, it crashes.
What I did was installed Ryzen Controller and changed the TWP option from 25 to 15. It SOMETIMES crashes but I can now play for hours. Do you think it's faulty hardware? All drivers are updated.

Hey there, very nice video man ! I was wondering if one could install ram from diff brands and memory on a single machine as long as it’s the same speed ?
You can mix and match any RAM. If the speeds are different, your system will just downclock the faster DIMMs to the slowest one. For example, installing 3000MHz and 2666MHz will force both of them to run at 2666MHz. Same with latency. Obviously this is not ideal so most people recommend against it, but there's no real issue with mixing speeds and latencies.

Did you notice slow response times on the display? Some reviews have found it to be pretty bad.
I didn't test for response times on laptops until after this video when I got a few comments pointing that out, but yes I did confirm noticeable ghosting when I went on that UFO website that lets you test for frame rates and ghosting. I don't know if it's bad or acceptable, but I would consider it noteworthy.

I never actually pay attention when gaming because I've got the speakers blasting. I only hear them when I'm doing stress tests so I don't know which one is louder. The Blade 15 has manual fan control and this doesn't so Blade 15 can run as loud or quiet as you want.

Hello :) Thank you for the review. One question, is the WiFi card easily upgradable?
I couldn't find the wifi card on the motherboard. Even when they're soldered, you can still see them. I'd have to take apart the entire laptop and search both sides of the motherboard and under the heat sink in order to know for sure. So no, it's not easily upgradable to my knowledge.
Yes, as a matter of fact, I changed it today (to WiFi 6). It is under the SSD slot on the left side of the laptop.

I recently decided to make this my new laptop purchase however it is sold out everywhere. Do you understand why this is happening? Where did you get yours?
Also, You did a great job of explaining the need for getting a dual memory configuration for me.
Lastly, you mentioned making informed decisions about selecting the AMD ryzen vs the intel i7 or i9 based on the programs I’ll be running. How do I do that? I plan to run data analytics software and visualization tools and do python and Jupyter based programming with out using a VM.
I actually didn’t notice that this was a review on the A15. I assume that the A17 is just the model with the larger screen but the A17 is the one I want.

You'd probably hafta worry about heat more than anything else with this thing...
too bad that the page up/down, insert/delete, home/end buttons are difficult to use... you need to toggle the numlock then use fn for some of them
I know it's not for text editing and/or programming, but it you intend to use it for that too (besides gaming), than it's not quite the machine you need

If you mean price, I believe it's $1200. If you mean performance, I unfortunately don't have that model to test but I know hardwarecanucks tested the RTX 2060 version. Can't remember if they had dual channel RAM though, ASUS' website doesn't say. If you want to maintain 144 FPS in newer games without lowering graphics quality too much, then yes the RTX 2060 would benefit you.

@Freed Galardia about 15-20% in most games (90W version). The max q performs on par or a bit worse than a 1660ti
around 15% difference but you barely see it tbh. 1660ti allow you to hit over 144fps for most fps game and for AAA offline games nobody need more than 60 to enjoy the game (ex: playing Shadow of the tomb raider at 40 or 120 fps *doesn't make any difference*)

Yes, assuming your monitor is good. Laptop screens won't affect the image quality of external monitors.

I think overall quality the msi bravo is great for $900. Spec wise is slower compare to tuf but thermal arrangement is better. no heat in keyboard area.

TDP rating doesn't equal to power draw. Just like Intel, Ryzen also has its own version of Turbo Boost. That's why you see higher power draw because it's cranking up the voltage to get a higher clock.

ive owned this laptop for a few months now and i found that almost every game i play peaks at 40fps. i got up to 54fps on lowest settings for Tomb Raider 2013 using in game benchmark. im not very familiar with computer stuff so i have no idea what the problem is or how to fix it. please help.
If your using an external monitor you might be using the wrong display output
@@kilian397 yup, i usually connect a pretty old monitor through the HDMI port. But ive tried running the benchmark on the laptop's display and i get the same results. Or am i misunderstanding you?

Uhhhh I'd probably get the 1660 Ti over the RAM upgrade because I can always upgrade the RAM later, but the GPU is soldered on. Not sure how gaming performance would differ between those 2 different configurations though.
u can always try throttlestop to lower voltages and have lower temps, no performance decrease!

Unfortunately, I don't really use Adobe apps. Which, funnily enough, is because of their poor performance. The only Adobe app I use is Photoshop, and that's only because I haven't found a good alternative with as good RAW photo editing controls. Photo editing is perfectly fine on this, but I haven't used Premiere Pro since like 2016 so I can't even make an estimate as to how well it would perform, but I'd assume 1080p and light 4K should be perfectly fine. Max Yuryev might have a video on Premiere with Ryzen laptops since he focuses on content creation. I haven't touched any of the other Adobe apps.

I can forgive the speakers because most gaming laptops sound about the same, and they put the money towards a bigger battery (if you get the 90Wh battery that is). The screen, not as much. It's unfortunate, but I didn't harp on it too much because I didn't feel like it was particularly worse during normal use than the more common panel. Assuming you're not actively looking out for the colors that is. Speaking of, if you check out Lenovo's new Y740, I believe they're rating their 1080p 144hz panels at 500 nits which I haven't seen before. If bright screens are the new trend for 2020, that's big hype. It's soo nice to be able to crank up the brightness if and when you need it. Might have to look around to see if there are any other gaming laptops with 500 nit 144hz screens.

default is 1 but i changed gamma to 1.1 brightness -7 contrast 0.95

i just want 1 thing improved for my use is screen quality. if they give me 75 Hertz IPS Panel with 100% color accuracy this laptop will be amazing steal as i do gaming and most of my productivity on photoshop and 3Ds max and Sketchup
The 45% NTSC is so atrocious compared to other screen on other laptop brands in this range. Defiinitely not a good move on ASUS side
