Admire of Tyson had to watch that match between Tyson and Holmes in detail through again, and understand why Holmes did not manage the last 10 seconds of the 4th round. He was surprised by an infight uppercup. But the great giants of the Ali era rise again. Holmes was cunning enough to protect himself, but when he had to hit the last crucial defensive shot with the right in the ring corner, his arm is on the wrong side of the middle ring rope and his defense is totally open and Tyson knocks him out. Also note that Holmes had not boxed at all before, had in principle put the gloves on the shelf, yet he can keep Tyson at a distance. It's not given Tyson had won that match, just look at the Buster Douglas match, Douglas as there was no resistance for Holyfield, who later beat Tyson twice.

Larry Holmes is such a smart fighter. He obviously didnt have the same mobility that he had in his prime but he evolved his game to stay competitive with top prime fighters. Very impressive performance from a 42 year old holmes. Imagine if he fought holyfield in his prime

    • @joeblough261
      @joeblough261 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

I understand what you're saying, but if he fought Holy in his prime, he'd not fight so passively and to survive, he'd come forward, aggressive, and there was no better HVWT counter puncher than Holy, so I think Holy would've eventually got him out of there late, especially in a 15 rounder. Plus Holy had never been cut like that before and it threw him off his game a little he admitted. Still, Holmes was vomiting all over himself by the end, LOL. Just my opinion, Holy is my favorite fighter of all time, but I absolutely love Larry. 1st fight I ever remember watching was him beating the hell out of Cooney. I only wish he had been in shape when he fought Tyson, I think he loses anyway, but he would've acquitted himself much better.

@@joeblough261 Prime Larry holmes was too fast and too quick on his feet for holyfield. He would have won on points because of holyfield's chin and heart but no way would he have stood a chance against prime Holmes. He took bombs from Ken Norton and kept fighting back. When both fighters have the heart and the chin. The skill always prevails and Larry Holmes was doubtlessly the more skilled boxer. No disprespect to Holyfield. Never been a huge fan of Holyfield. He head butted & threw elbows too much during his big fights to be considered amongst the real greats. Tyson doesn't get enough credit for his win over Holmes. Holmes was still a great fighter years after that fight. This is 4 years later and look how good he still was against Holyfield. And Holmes should've won 2 championships after Tyson. He beat an undefeated Ray Mercer in 1992, who was really the WBO champion, but the WBO stripped for for fighting Holmes instead of Michael Moorer. And I thought Holmes beat Oliver McCall in 1995 for the WBC title. I also had Holmes beating Spinks in the rematch, meaning Tyson beat the legit champ. And Tyson knocked Holmes out. He destroyed him. No one else ever knocked Holmes out, and the dude fought till he was 52.

Holyfield was much more busy, no doubt about that but i really felt that the fight was closer on points than the official scorecards. Holmes really impressed me in this fight. His science of the ring, he way he was blocking the punches ( espcially until the middle of the fight ) and by the way, his own punches seemed to be a little more accurate than Holyfield at times. I think it's one of the fights that Holmes could be proud of even if he has lost it.

In this fight Holyfield had an opponent who gave him time and space to go ahead and use his maximum viciousness for any length of time he wanted. And when Holyfield had run and crossed that boundary again and again he found that all of that did not outclass or overturn his opponent ; on the contrary Holmes was at ease and in control and was taking right decisions with presence of mind and hitting Holyfield intentionally, and regularly and very effectively. All in all , it was a draw at the best. It could not be said that Holyfield was the better fighter than Holmes in the fight.

I rely on my own observations, not on others. If it were just left to judges and observers, so many fighters would have lost by decision had they not eventually KO'd their opponents.
When Ali fought Ron Lyle, the announcer kept on saying the Lyle was ahead on points. He then told Angelo Dundee that his guy seemed to be losing. Angelo said something like, "Oh yeah. Then I must be blind." Shortly thereafter, Ali KO'd Lyle.
In the Ali-Foreman fight, the judges must have Foreman way ahead on points just before he was knocked out.
The judges, announcers and observers were all set to give the fight to Moorer had Foreman not KO'd him. The announcers kept on repeating that Foreman's punches did not seem to carry as much power as before.
In the Thrilla in Manila, if Frazier's corner did not give up and instead continued to fight, and just told Frazier to just keep away from Ali and finish the round, just as what the handlers of Holyfield told him to just keep away from Holmes in the last five or six rounds, then the judges most probably gave the fight to Frazier.

There you can see the difference between Tyson and Holyfield at that time.

Holmes was retired for two years. Fought tyson on 4 weeks notice.
      A huge difference.
So tyson was only good until age 22?
People say nobody could beat tyson under cus which was age 15-19.
Watch Tyson’s fights and not highlights he’s very beatable. He’s one of my favorites ever as he was always entertaining not because he’s the best or top ten best hw ever he was the 4th best of his era. Lennox Holyfield bowe tyson.
Mitchell Greene gave your unbeatable tyson problems and Tony tucker both tangy fighters with an ok jab. Douglas straight whooped mike. Tangy jab other tools.
Holyfield does everything better except one punch power.
Namw me a fight where tyson faced adversity and won?
He also has never kod anyone past round 7
It’s easy to look good against guys with no resistance.

Five years earlier mike Tyson walked right through Holmes. And did it without breaking a sweat. And here Holmes is 5years later going 12rounds with Holyfield. If Mike wouldn’t have been in prison at this time and him, and Holyfield would have had a fight. Mike would have done him the same way. it’s all about who’s in your corner. Mikes true reign stopped when him and Kevin Rooney parted ways. Holyfield gave Larry a boxing lesson here. He outboxed him and outworked him. And to all the people who are saying that Larry got robbed, please learn how to score a pro fight. Holyfield toyed with him all he wanted. By the way, the outcome of the fight would've been exactly the same if they both had fought at their respective primes, basically because Holyfield is a much better fighter than Holmes ever was. So stop with the BS.
