Absolutely agree, I don't think he ever should have fought Ali though. It tarnished his legacy in my opinion and overshadowed the great and unique boxer he truly was. The payback he got from Tyson though was well deserved though. Like Ali, he too had one last match well past his prime and was defeated unceremoniously. Holmes surprisingly says "Mike Tyson? Man, I can't beat that kid, I've been retired for 2 years". King replies "I'll give you 3 million dollars". Larry replies "Where's Mike at?"

After watching Mike fight the other evening with Jake, I came here to watch something that I had seen back in 1988. Goodness, Mike was truly a beast in his younger years and unbelievable talent. My memory serves me well, as I remember this fight. I realize that there have been many great fighters, but next to Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson is one of the best to date.
Larry went 21-3 after this fight. Going the distance on a few big name fights. Tyson was just that vicious, 1986-1988 nobody ever beating that version.
It’s crazy how much people still doubt Tyson and he has such a disadvantage literally every fight . That didn’t even matter either he still murdered dudes
nah, Larry’s jab would’ve been way more effective disrupting mikes entire flow and footwork. Man had arguably the best jab in the history of heavyweight boxing
@@Jacob-wb9qp The disrespect lol. Larry Holmes has longer reach than ali and is much more technical. He would've circled and jabbed Ali, he's basically an updated Ali minus the athleticism. Mike wouldn't have done jack with Larry's reach, incredible jab, footwork, chin and power. Larry in his prime would've left Tyson in fits like lennox lewis and buster douglas did.
If you watch the full fight Larry did very well up in to the point he got dropped. Larry Homes was a true professional as champion who was very durable and used his length well...
This is probably his best win and it’s not that impressive. Holmes is like 39 here. Tyson would go on to get curb stomped by journeyman buster douglas soon after

@@salsaman12345 Holmes was born on Nov 3 1949. Holmes vs Tyson was Jan 22 1988. Holmes just turned 38 years old on Nov 3 1987. So he was 38 years and 2 1/2 months old facing Tyson, not 39. When Holmes faced undefeated prime Holyfield on June 19 1992…..Holmes was 42 years and 6 months old. People say Holmes was old facing Tyson but overlook the fact that a prime undefeated Holyfield couldn’t once wobble or hurt Holmes at 42 years and 6 months old. Holyfield won a decision but Holmes gave him a hard time. Holmes was no way weak and old facing Tyson.
Even if Larry Holmes had the Tyson fight in his prime. He would have still got knocked out. Maybe it would have went one more round. Larry Holmes looked Terrified. He winced every time Mike Hite him.
I think prime Holmes could beat him. Holmes hardly trained for this fight. I think if they fought a trilogy Holmes would have beat prime Tyson at least once
You forget Tillis and Tucker went the distance with Mike . Larry was better than Tillis . The young Larry would have been moving .. If Tillis could do it Larry could too in his prime .
Obviously Tyson pummeled him, but Holmes def stood tall and took a ton of shots as he went out like a July 4th fireworks celebration. Bam boom bam bam bam boom
People really gotta put respect on Holmes name. Yeah, Mike is definitely a beast, but the fact that this man could take so many shots from Iron Mike and live to tell the tale is absolutely insane. His willpower and toughness is something that amazes me after seeing him get his head rocked a good 5 times and still be left standing.
Mike had a vendetta from his youth about beating Holmes. He promised Ali. Also, though Mike was also respectful to Larry, Larry was just the opposite to Mike. He constantly criticized him, called him a thug, and future career criminal. Once Larry started dancing in round four, Mike said at that point "Oh you're gonna get it now.." Those are Mike's words...
You have to stop and think for a second .....and take it on board....tyson was 21, undisputed and cleaning the division out...brushing the old guard aside with ease and taking no prisoners...no wonder he says he lost his youth to boxing.at 21 i was still figuring my way through lifes maze let alone knowing what i wanted to do..he was a wrecking ball with one purpose.......destruction and pain....glad he's got his faculties intact and is enjoying his life.
If you notice most boxers, they start to act confident by dancing around before they get knocked out. It's a psychological tactic to confuse their opponent to think they have the win. In reality it's the opposite. It's their last attempt to make themselves look strong before going down. I've seen this happen many times in boxing. It happens in the wild also... Wolves will corner an elk and chase it down, and the elk will trot, and puff out it's chest to intimidate the wolves, by showing its not afraid before they make the kill. It's a survival tactic that animals use before they get destroyed as in humans.
The fact Tyson got only more aggressive and stronger while Holmes got weaker during the fight is truly horrifying to see in a sense. Like a hungry lion slowly beating to death a brave yet powerless prey. This was awesome to watch again.

Larry Holmes should have lost against to Tim Witherspoon and Carl Williams
There will never be another fighter like mike tyson
Real
sa m'a mit les larmes au yeux , cette intensité est si belle
Vraiment l'une des match intense 😮
Sudah puluhan kali saya menonton cuplikan nya. Idolaku iron Mike Tyson or Malik Abdul Aziz 👍👍💪💪❤❤
That ref was awesome!!!
Joe Cortez...Das 😎 all! 👍😎🥊🥊
"larry Holmes!"
The crowd: "BOOOOO"
LOL
Larry Holmes is the most under rated heavyweight of all time.
@0:01 the triple OG sent the message for the get back 😂😂😂😂
Tyson gave his word to Ali and the rest is history ....
WATH OF FIGHT, THANK YOU FOR SHARE WITH US THIS INMAZING FIGHT, THAT'S A FIGHT!🫱🫲🤝🙋
محمد علي : أحضره لي
مايك تايسون : تم تفعيل الوحش يابطلي🔥💪
This always makes me respect Ali even in his later years they couldn't knocked him down.
Holy COW!! Listen to the sound of the punch at 5:29!!
He could only beat bums with no Wikipedia page or a coming out of retirement 40 year old Larry Holmes. Anyone worthy kicked his ass
@@salsaman12345ma non sparare cazzate😂
Non dubitano affatto. Sono persone che non vogliono ammettere la sua grandezza, proprio come l'utente qui sopra.
@@salsaman12345then u get in there bro, i don’t think you know how difficult it is to be an inside fighter, dum dum
Dude was 38. Ten years too late for this fight.
It would have been the same result even if Holmes were in his prime.
Just .1 seconds slower
nah, Larry’s jab would’ve been way more effective disrupting mikes entire flow and footwork. Man had arguably the best jab in the history of heavyweight boxing
@@sideeyed7682Mike still would have won lol Ali would have diced him up as well
@@Jacob-wb9qp The disrespect lol.
@@freewheelin3550I agree 100%
If you watch the full fight Larry did very well up in to the point he got dropped.
Larry Homes was a true professional as champion who was very durable and used his length well...
I remember having free HBO the weekend this fight happened.
Never ever tire seeing Holmes KOd by Mike. Must of seen this 100 times or more? Mike’s greatest fight imo proving his greatness
This is probably his best win and it’s not that impressive. Holmes is like 39 here. Tyson would go on to get curb stomped by journeyman buster douglas soon after
@@salsaman12345 Holmes was born: Nov 3 1949. He fought Tyson on 01/22/88. Holmes had just turned 38 years old on Nov 3 1987. Jan 22 1988 would make Holmes 38 years and 2 and one half months old. Holmes was no where near 39 years old when he fought Tyson. Holmes went to fight undefeated Holyfield on June 19 1992. Holmes was 42 years and 7 months old while he faced prime undefeated Holyfield. Holmes was never once wobbled or seriously hurt at 42 years old and 7 months while he faced Holyfield. Holyfield was hoping he’d knock out Holmes as Tyson had, but couldn’t even seriously hurt Holmes at 42 years old and 7 months. Holyfield won via decision, but Holmes gave him a really tough time. Holmes also fought and defeated Ray Mercer in his older age. That’s another one

@@truthreignsforever9286thanks for that
“Look at the look on Larry’s face!” Hahaha
I wish it was this Tyson that fought Holyfield and Lewis.
He would smoked Lewis and Holyfield
Completely different fighter.
This is Tyson facing a 40 year old…..not impressive. He got his ass kicked cuz those guys were his age
Evander couldn't drop a 42 year old, how about that? Prime Mike was something else even if you guys deny it@@salsaman12345
@@charlesweaver9297maybe, but Tyson had Ali’s presence with him
A young Holmes would have had a good chance against Tyson. His style was very similar to the one Buster Douglas beat Tyson with.
You forget Tillis and Tucker went the distance with Mike . Larry was better than Tillis . The young Larry would have been moving .. If Tillis could do it Larry could too in his prime .
@@SJ-ty5rw Larry was kinda like a Ali Jr he def would’ve given Mike problems. The jab, the precision.
Think of how satisfying that 4th round had to have been for Ali to witness 😂
Жаль что сейчас нет таких боксёров как Тайсон! ✊
Они, все ,ещё молодого его боялись!!😁
Mike is a beast. Do it too it Mike!
Holmes era el peleador ideal para ganarle a Tyson, pero en esa época era imparable
The man with the steel hand😎😎😎
Holmes beat a shot Ali, and tyson beat a shot Holmes. Sad both stayed too long.
Respect ❤
Who is watching after match with mike Paul ??
Me, who wants to fight Jake to avenge Mike? ?
Here
Rayos la fuerza de Tyson era brutal cada golpe como hace retroceder a Holmes 😮😮😮🔥🔥🔥🥊🥊
Tyson will never tierd .look at his energy.❤
Usyk
@@Tahantawa-l5d he trash mike tyson would smoke uysk in his prime still
Obviously Tyson pummeled him, but Holmes def stood tall and took a ton of shots as he went out like a July 4th fireworks celebration. Bam boom bam bam bam boom
If fight with Mike Tyson in his prime, Jake Paul was clown.
Awesome and wonderful big brother Tyson ❤
Tyson is the shorter fighter, the other one is Holmes. agree?
Nop, MTF
Tyson Tyson and only Tyson 🥊
You have to stop and think for a second .....and take it on board....tyson was 21, undisputed and cleaning the division out...brushing the old guard aside with ease and taking no prisoners...no wonder he says he lost his youth to boxing.at 21 i was still figuring my way through lifes maze let alone knowing what i wanted to do..he was a wrecking ball with one purpose.......destruction and pain....glad he's got his faculties intact and is enjoying his life.
Man he is such a master of just getting inside of taller, larger opponents and just absolutely destroying them after a little hunting.
