This music is better than perfect. It's performed by young people who aren't jaded by life yet. Gustavo Dudamel is quite possibly the best conductor in the world now. He brings the enthusiasm, beauty, and passion of The Americas in his conducting. Nosotros conocemos su pasión. Así es la belleza y pasión de las Américas. It's a beautiful thing to see and hear.

Absolutement! d'accord. Ce jeune homme ...... un génie! He understands EVERYTHING from Bernstein..... FAR better than Bernstein, to Mahler It is impeccable. Still needs to work on his Beethoven, but I forgive him. (je ris!) After all he is still young. WHAT a gifted artist! Ich liebe die Art, wie er zeichnet die besten Talente aus der Jugend! love....love....love....

The people here are actually not youths anymore. When the orchestra was first formed (Around the 80s-90s), it was definitely a youth orchestra. But by the time this recording came about, most of the people here are 18+ (in fact I think the oldest was 28 years old). Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this performace took place on December 2012.

Edward Pancake their website says they dropped youth from the name. Unfortunately the orchestra has suffered under Maduro. The musicians have mostly scattered to other countries. A first violinist was murdered during a protest.

In all seriousness, I'd like to nominate Dudamel for a Noble Peace Prize. His music spreads joy to people around the world and he shows the youth of his native land to be capable of extraordinary things, busting negative stereotypes along the way. Such joy here! Thank you, Maestro.

    • @billwest9590
      @billwest9590 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Don't disagree, but the prize really belongs to the creator of El Sistema, the late Doctor Jose Antonio Abreu. All other youth orchestras around the globe have been inspired by El Sistema. The Venezuelan youth orchestra was established in 1975. Look for Tocar y Luchar on TH-cam.

This happens because both its director, Gustavo Dudamel, and the members of the orchestra have known each other for years and work as a whole. Dudamel says that they function as one body and consider each other brothers and sisters.
The vast majority of them come from very humble families and have started studying from a very early age. Dudamel, for example, started at the age of 4, which is why some of them have known each other for more than 2 decades. Dudanel feels like one of them. No more no less. He conducts without sheet music because he knows every piece he directs by heart. They all belong to EL SISTEMA, a project created almost 50 years ago and has trained thousands of musicians. Due to the economic situation of the country many musicians have emigrated to all parts of the world and yet there are more than 600 orchestras in the country formed with EL SISTEMA founded by the maestro José Antonio Abreu, economist by profession and musician.

I listen to every Version of this Overture or whatever version of Music it is released in.
I have to say this is a Brilliant rendition of one of my all - time Favorite Musicals , and I feel the power in their hearts playing this terrific rendering of incredible Music from the 1950s Beat Generation to not even 10 yrs. later becomes Hippies in "HAIR - The American Tribal Rock Musical" , one was Jazzy from the West Side Story and one was the East Village and Washington Square being Rocked & Rolled , and I got to see them both ! This is incredible and well Conducted !

But if a Puerto Rican lady in NY influenced him as his Muse on WSS , it is one Incredible Piece of ART she contributed to ! I like it more then the MONA LISA painting or DAVID , Statue in Florence !
Luckily , I got to visit many places with great history in the World , long before getting hooked on-line , was trending !

There needs to be a substantial moment of silence after the last note is played.
      There is a good reason.
It has to do with the vibrations in the air that remain after the music stops.
The music is still radiating outward, outward and it needs a space of silence to move into.
The cacophonous beating of hands, the rowdy applause, beats it back and obliterates the afterglow that is absolutely necessary for the FULLEST enjoyment of the music.
The music needs to be surrounded by silence.
That way, it can be heard better.
It's like clearing the palate between courses at dinner.
At the end of a piece, the audience should hold back their enthusiasm for a few seconds.
      Let the music melt away.

I think back in 2011, TH-cam had the decency not to interrupt musical videos with adds (8:40 is when it happened when I watched). Most frustrating. If the adds were shown at the beginning or the end of the performance, great. I'd even sit through them. But in the middle???

I love them and the way they play this music. Not the NY Phil "I'm so cool" or the Japanese Robots. People moving , swaying , feeling this highly charged and passionate music. So many times they bring me to tears of joy and pathos as I know the inevitable tragedy of this story. I was here when this music was created less than 10 miles from my house and now to hear these wonderful young people perform this incredibly hard piece so well gives me hope for the future. Dudamel is right with them ! Ahhh youth !

When I played this in my sophomore year of orchestra, we finally nailed the piece and by the end of it my teacher was in tears, it was probably one of the most beautiful moments of my life, seeing my teacher so proud and filled with emotion, he's such an amazing man and I know this piece meant a lot to him because he lost his first wife in a car accident, I just wish I could have met the person that made him so happy.

This is amazing. All the more so seeing as it's a youth orchestra. I was especially impressed by the principal trumpet. He performed far better (especially in the mambo) than most professional, older musicians I've heard in this composition, barring Mark Inouye with the SFO.

This group does sound great. As for the trumpets, not that they don't sound good (I like the energy in the sound), but they are using 6 when the piece calls for 3. Nothing wrong with using a little help, however I'm not sure I've ever seen any of the parts doubled in this piece, let alone all three. Maybe explains why you hear the principal trumpet(s) so clearly. The SFO vid sounds great also!

MJM

The Latinos have much to be proud about. Gustavo Dudamel and his young orchestra did a fantastic job. I can keep listening to it over and over. The music was written by Leonard Bernstein. He was a Jew who grew up in New York.
