My memory of playing the trombone part in the opera is quite a different one - counting for minutes at a time listening to all the woodwind playing all the tunes. This certainly makes a change!

I agree. The best recording of this concerto without a doubt that I have heard. I have listened to several recordings by different trombonists. No recording compares to this one in terms of sound and technique.
