    Great video! I think one thing that would really help me though is in your first video, you pointed out that when you got to the scene when Thor was trying to jump start that forge and the beam of fire shot through him, the single R-115 did not handle that scene well at all but the PB3000 did amazing and was cleaner. Can you let us know how dual R-115's handle that scene compared to the PB3000? I'm curious if the dual R-115's gave cleaner output or not.

      Same here. I don't need anywhere near 100db in my man cave, but I certainly do love the smooth Frequency Response all the way down. I have two subs, placed diagonally, and have set the delay on one up my one millisecond. Then run them through my Antimode (since my Yamaha AVR isn't exactly great at EQing Subs...) And I get a pretty flat line from 20-80Hz (they are 12" subs).
      Mine are not sealed sadly, they have a secondary, passive membrane, but they are still quite good.

    PB-3000 held it's own very well. Based on those graphs, I'd definitely be running it ported in your room. The +4~8db gain from 22-32hz would be extremely noticeable. The quick rolloff from 17hz and down isn't even audible, just makes things rattle. Also, when you run the R115s, did you try one up front right corner, and the other back left corner? That's one of the most recommended configs to avoid the nulls. Most rooms just aren't designed to fit that config though. Great video!

    wonder if the volume in which you perform these test affects the results. I feel if pushed a little harder the dual SW R115 would be able to catch up to the SVS at those 22-40 freq. while the SVS will prob reach the total output sooner. I can see that when added the second SW R 115 the freq got flatter but not much SPL gain was registered, meaning the subs are not being tested for actual total output at any freq.
    These videos take time to make, we appreciate the info and the time you take to make them!!! keep up the good work.

      at 90-100db this would be the more useful range of the speakers if one does better at 130db then that's great but 95% of my use is 80-90 db or less only 5% is cranking things to the max. actually my speakers get so loud its louder than a concert by a fair margin and I never play them that loud except when showing of to a friend that then says WTF was that right before blood pores from the ears, no but when that loud it does physically hurt. around 115-120db at the couch. human hearing stops around 120db any louder is just undefinable.

Also, I have repaired a broken R-110SW, that cost me $40 + ~$10 for tinsel wire. $55 for a used Klipsch wireless kit, from the bay. Sorry, however this may not quite be a completely (mostly but not completely) valid comparison for two reasons. For one, which Klipsch position did you place the SVS? Honestly I believe that you used the position that was less advantageous to the SVS. Second, neither position of a dual subwoofer setup is necessarily the best position for a single subwoofer setup. That said, I believe that what we are seeing is that double the price tends to get you double the output. However we are also clearly seeing the advantages of going Dual. I for one would never purchase the single most expensive subwoofer that I could afford, and instead I would always purchase the most expensive Dual subwoofers that I could afford and then play with placement in order to achieve both a Flatter response (super important), as well as increased output (3-6 is often obtained). Thanks so much for the review! As always, nicely done and super helpful to us all.

      Hi John, in previous videos, I found the best location for a single sub and placed the 1st R-115SW there and also the PB3000 so they both had the best placement in my room. In a previous video I located the best location for the 2nd R-115SW sun and placed it there.

    What's the width / depth of that room? .. I will look for some solutions for 35hz - 40hz standing wave cancellation .. 40hz is a 28 foot wave.. Staggering the placement in the room can sometimes help .. although .. it won't look symmetrical.. but will sound better.

  • @nimlil
    @nimlil 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great work Youthmam. It does kind of confirm my previous comment that duals add closer to a 6 db increase as you are adding not only double the power (3db) plus double the driver size (3db). Of course there are so many other variables such ad room modes, 1/4 wave length etc which can play with any theories Lol! That's a tough room dip you have there from around 30 to 50 hz. With all those subs, maybe try your PB16's to see what the room response is, and then see what happens with a third sub (3000). Or maybe see about playing with the 2 Klipsch"s and then move the 3000 around with its adjustable phase and see what happens. If nothing else you are getting a good workout. Also, I imagine there is a limit at the top end of output as these subs go into compression at peak sound pressure levels which could have a different response curve at different frequencies. What did you think of the sound quality? Obviously that's very subjective, but some subs are quite tight and some are a little looser in sound quality vs quantity of output. Man, there could be a never ending array of questions as new tests can open up new thoughts and possibilities. What a crazy hobby Lol!

      Totally agree. And Youthman Amazon has Klipsch for $699 a piece, you can get first PB2000 for $799 and if you order with SVS can get second one at a discount for ordering two. I used to run Klipsch, and still do for my other speakers, but love my SVS sub.

    I got dual 115 subs. I can buy 3 Klipsch for 1 svs sub. And going from 1 to 2 is definitely worth it. Svs is great though 😁. And I get a better result in gain matching the subs from the amp then if I change it on the reciever.

    Very Interesting!
    You could have spent hours with placement to optomize performance.
    With subs just a few inches this way or that can make a big difference.
    Even just closer, or farther from the wall (in the same spot) a few inches can make a measureable difference.
    With subs, to a large extent, the room becomes a part of the enclosure.
    Corner placement vs. side wall placement can completely change the characteristics of any sub, single, or dual.
    There comes a point where you just need to be happy with the way it sounds. :-)

    In a way they are near identical price per performance when buying 2 Klipsch vs one SVS, but no mobile app/equalizer on the Klipsch.
    I will stick with the added notion, if $1400 is your total budget, always go dual K. If your room isn't perfect, you need a minidsp, tack on an added $200 to correct your room though.
    One thing I do not know how to measure is pressure changes in a room. Is that independent of the dB output? Not sure there is a test for that. Guess we will rely on Youthman for the "feel".

    • @fooschnickens
      @fooschnickens 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Looking at all those curves really shows off that null around 40-50Hz. Your next steps should be moving the mic around the room to see if the null follows along or disappears. With a coverage "map" in hand of where your null(s) lie, you could better determine where your problem truly lies. At that frequency you're looking at a 7ft wavelength, so I'd be looking primarily for a null going right down the center of your room, or possibly dependent on distance from the rear wall. Actually, how far from the back wall is your primary seating position? Is that same null present with your PB16s?
      That said, really interesting response from both of these setups. It's curious how sharply the SVS drops off down low with the ports open, only to extend more evenly once the plugs are in. I suppose that's mostly due to the size of the cabinet not letting the ported design really stretch its legs with the smaller driver. The iron triangle strikes again. The Klipsch definitely gives you a lot to play with down low and higher up, with a much smother plot to boot.

    • @Youthman
      @Youthman  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. I’m not too concerned with the null unless I get the same results from my PB16’s that are behind my screen as this is the location where my subs are. It’s just not practical (or easy) to remove the PB16’s every time I get a review unit in.

    Hate to say it but that testing was done in the wrong way. It doesn’t have a true representation of capabilities of either sub. You need to turn gain up to max on both or close to it. Voltage gain changes dramatically from sub to sub. For instance one sub set to 80db doesn’t actually reflect a level match. Some subs need more gain to hit peak spl at high volume. In a room closed in the size of yours you should see 110-125db from 25-100hz on klipsch.

    PB3000 has built-in PEQ, which could easily fix the peak at 30hz, and yield a fairly flat response curve.
    But ultimately, the difference between (2) subs and (1) sub is likely to be headroom at the lowest frequencies.

    • @bryanboldt887

    Science states that the typical human generally can’t hear sounds below 20Hz, so in your video at 11:55 where the SVS drops at 15Hz you most likely are not able to hear or discern it. In addition within the 25Hz to 40Hz range, which is in the middle of the output range where you generally feel the power of a subwoofer, the single SVS PB3000 is nearly 8dB greater (remember that decibels are logarithmic and not linear) than the dual Klipsch subs, which means the SVS has nearly a 2.0 loudness gain factor perception, a 2.5 sound pressure effect and 8.0 power sound intensity over the dual R-115SW Klipsch subwoofers. In my opinion from what you have presented, the best value for performance is clearly the single SVS PB3000.

    Testing a $1300.00 SVS sub vs a $650.00 Klipsch sub seems seriously impertinent toward Klipsch on your part. My room is smaller (but not much) than yours. My Klipsch r-120sw combined with the Polk psw10 rock my home theater with way more than enough low end! You may not even know it but you are biased toward SVS and excessive bass! I believe music and films should be played they were they recorded as much as possible and clearly you do not. I like your program but your obsessive love of unrealistic bass is cumbersome and overbearing. Stick to the facts and tell people the truth that they do not need $5000.00 worth of subs to get an accurate appraisal of a film or song! Thank you!

      @@Youthman I understand. But does she sleep for days at a time? Would wager that the majority would have rather waited for a review much like the last, where you actually demoed the pb3000 vs the klipsch, vs analyzing graphs, which mean next to nothing when actually listening with real ears. I say this with no malice, and you're not alone in this, but the "like comment and subscribe... and hit that bell" speech is painfully annoying. If a person wants to sub, rest assured that they won't forget... and they also know how TH-cam works.

      Sorry I was on the bike and using voice type. So let me explain. I bought these subs from amazon for the 699 price two years ago. Then right after the nov purchase in 2016 the amp broke right in Jan 19. I was either going to buy the replacement for 230ish but when I got into the amp and noticed the 400watt label on the board I wasn’t going to even try as subs these days are getting better. So I purchased the amp from parts express and it came with a 5 year warranty to. Drill the hole guys klipsch amps made in China are junk! I even had this on a power conditioner still happened. So this is the last klipsch or any type of class-d amp as they are all made with cheap components

      Yes my room is 13’ x 19’ with 10’ ceiling.
      I wonder if it has to do with the fact that the front sub is placed 4’ from the front wall due to the custom cabinet
