    Hi, it's a nice video. Going through the comments, I understand that the sound demo is not quite the correct demo as it is difficult to record in home setup. Therefore, I was hoping that the video talks about the differences, if any . Reading the heading of the video and listening through the videos, the only information I got is - Pb 3000 has bigger size than SB 3000 and has more output. Nothing else. Please do not consider this as I m bashing the video. Just a constructive feedback. The video tells me more differences between pb 4000 and pb 3000 than what the title is supposed to cover.

    oh, SPL is measured at 1 meter. When I did crank it up contests I noticed a SPL increase further from the speaker, not directly in front of it. I think testing at 1 meter would be good also to compare to what the specs say. That Klipsch R12SW I asked about lists 116db as max SPL vs much lower for these much larger/powerful beasts. Since Effecietcy is tested at 1w/1m I would think all SPL tests are also at 1 meter. Great video. Wish I had the money for any of these. I LOVE those dual 10" Klipsch towers. I bet they sound incredible in person. ( hard to really tell in the video even with Sennheiser HD595 cans )

    • @ThatHomeTheaterDude
      @ThatHomeTheaterDude  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      SPL is also measured in an anaechoic chamber. I will have room gain, so I tried getting the mic as close to source as possible. Either ways its not ideal, but I just wanted to be fair in between the two

    • @batsonelectronics
      @batsonelectronics 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ThatHomeTheaterDude As long as all tests are done the same way, I guess it doesn't matter. Testing it at 1 meter and comparing to the spec sheet would be cool just to see how close it is, room gain or not.

    • @MrJnasty41
      @MrJnasty41 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the replies, just curious, at what point would a sealed sub become a better option? Obviously an SB-3000 might not out perform a ported version even one with 300 watts RMS less than it's sealed counterpart but clearly a JL Fathom would undoubtedly outpace most ported sub due to a great driver and a massive internal amplifier. Now, I realize I compared a $4k plus sub to an $800 budget sub but mostly to illustrate an idea that at some point a more powerfully amplified design would have more output assuming it is of good quality and sufficient size driver. So, in a long way I'm wondering at what break point of more amplification would a similarly sized driver of equal quality in a sealed configuration exceed the output of a ported version? Twice as much power? 3 times? 5 times? I'm in no way trying to be argumentative but I'm curious about your thoughts as there's no fast and hard rule. Thanks again, have a great day.

    • @midevil1980
      @midevil1980 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think there is a need, considering that the Elevations are already voice matched to the Ultras anyway. Plus their purpose as height/Atmos speakers wouldn't really warrant the quality and price upgrade, they already do a great job as they are for their purpose. 😉

    Here in Australia we are being ripped off badly compared to the US. For example, the SB-3000, in AUD they should be no more than $1100 when compared to the US. The list is $2999 and the general price in the shop is $2800.

My room is 20x30ft. I would think the 200w rms would match up with the 85w/ch of the Onkyo pretty close. I listen at reference level on the Receiver. It would be hard wired not wireless but that model is on sale for $229 and appears a big step up from the $150 ish subs I was looking at.( 10" with 50-100w ) Adorama has them on sale, retail is $549.

Theater but not bad. I may see about getting a AudioSource 150w mono amp to drive it at 8 ohm. ( dual voice coil 4 ohm each ) I found one used for $90 or the newer model new for 139. I'm looking to buy a sealed sub but have no experience with them till now. Only ported subs. Is there any information available anywhere where someone OBJECTIVELY describes the sound difference between a sealed and ported subwoofer? I live in a place where I cannot demo so I have to rely on reviews.

      svs themselves have a video on ported vs sealed. But to describe it in my own words (as i have a klipsch r-12sw - Ported and a svs sb-2000 - sealed, playing together ) sealed sub will have more accuracy and less boom-iness, the bass is much tighter which is why alot of people say they are better for music. But sealed sub will lose db's in that sub 30hz range. This is where the ported sub is the king, as it will outperform a sealed sub with the same wattage x2 - x4 times (depending on the brand) in audible volume. As i mentioned i have both subs playing together and i had to reduce the volume on my 200w ported klipsch sub quite a bit to match the sealed 500w svs. I set them up in a way that ported sub supplements the sealed box for movies but does not overwhelm it and ruin the music. I think ported sub is better for movies (and good for music, but not as good as sealed), but it is a bit harder to setup and position due to the port (plus my klipsch has a port at the back so it is harder to position, so i do love svs ported subs with front facing ports), while the sealed sub is easier to position. And the obvious thing is the size. Ported sub will usually be alot bigger. So if the size matters to you, then sealed definitely wins in that regard. All in all there are quite a few videos on YT abot it, but i hope my personal oppinion and experience helps.

      @@Weecka2007 Thankyou. Yes it helps a lot. I've heard that due to the lack of boominess and overhang, sealed subs might sound thinner than ported, almost like large midbass drivers. I have only listened to ported subwoofers all my life. I have the KEF LS50 Wireless and I'm using my ... drumroll ... Logitech Z5500 subwoofer with them temporarily 😂. And it's not so bad. Due to the frankly anemic lower bass response of the LS50s any properly crossed over subwoofer improves the overall sound (I like lots of bass, punch, chest slam with my music) So if I'm quite happy with that I guess an SB3000 will be better than that in every way.

    • @Weecka2007
      @Weecka2007 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sfh2110 if you are mainly using it for music, then sb will be better in my opinion. And they are very good for movies. My sb-2000 shakes the whole room very well and fills it with deep bass with some help from r-12sw klipsch. I used it on it's own and it is a real joy to listen. I used to have z-5500 myself a few years ago and while the base on it is quite descent (for what it is), almost any good brand sub will outperform it. I remember i used to have the port facing the corner and it did have descent bass, though not the most accurate.
      Plus It's not like sealed sub doesn't have any boom-iness. As every room has different characteristics, once you find a spot it can sound just as boomy, or close to, a ported sub. My suggestion would be to go to a specialized shop and listen yourself. BUT you will not regret whether you buy a good ported or a good sealed sub, especially from svs.

    Hey I just wanted to share this with you real quick.. Don't know if you considered upgrading your outlets? I just bought a "Hubbell IG5362 Duplex Receptacle".. Trying to solve my hum/buzz issue.. It didn't, but this is the best $35 iv spent on my HT.. This outlet (and Im sure there are even better ones) made a massive difference in clarity! Most music would distort at about 90 percent volume.. Now I can listen to all my music at max volume distortion free!! Honestly I'm almost as happy with the new outlet as I was going from avr power to the outlaws.. Give it a try man.. You'll thank me later!!

      Also, I know this comment has nothing to do with your video...(which is awesome) I'm just stoked on the new outlet and wanted to share with you because I understand your passion for HT.. This difference in changing my outlet is what I was expecting from the Panamax 5400 I recently bought (which I noticed little to no difference in SQ.) Boggles my mind how an outlet could make a difference like it did! Maybe it's mainly because my house/outlets are older but I feel like its well worth your time looking into and trying out an upgraded outlet.. 😀😀😀😀

    It seems like a lot of you guys ask questions to the guy in the video but he hasn’t responded let me just add a little bit more that this video left out
    Sealed and poured it subwoofers from svs is the best when it comes to impactful bass in movies games and music if you want something weaker check a Lbrands
    When it come to sealed subwoofers they are really nice specially if you have a small room and you’re trying to get bass sound in a small room and you listen to a lot of music it it has a quick response when it comes to a lot of music but don’t get me wrong they sound good when it comes to movies and games as well
    Most sealed subwoofers are small as well so you can fit them into small areas especially if you don’t want them to be seen. However if you wanna get punched in a chest smacked in the face kick in the jaw the ported sub woofer is the way to go by SVS. The ported subwoofers are just incredible they go deep and they hit hard if you can get one of those in your entertainment system you got a masterpiece if you can get two of them you got the perfect sound in your living space and after you hear just how awesome they sound you will not settle for less you will not give them up A lot of these TH-cam reviewers try to let us hear what the speakers sound like in order for us to hear how they sound you need headphones the better your headphones the better you will be able to hear the bass sound and frequencies
