- I still can't believe I haven't done a Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts review until now. While it may not be the Banjo-Threeie that fans may have wanted, the way they addressed the drastic changes fits well. Our heroes have gotten fat and lazy over time and L.O.G. (the Lord of Games) sets the stage for all the new challenges. The gameplay may be completely different from what we expected, having to focus nearly all on vehicles, but the charm of characters and the world still is there with it's Rare flair.

Thank you! that's what I've been saying for years. I wish we'd gotten a proper Banjo-Threeie, but what we got I enjoyed.
Excactly it's a good Banjo spin off but not the true sequel people want after the series being MIA for 8 years
I've had an absurd amount of fun just screwing around in this game, trying to get a vehicle with no wheels or propellers
Like I said above that's a cop out. It's a Banjo Kazooie game. If it's not a good Banjo Kazooie game then it's not a good game. By default. People say the same shit about Fallout 4 in an attempt to defend it. If the game is bad and you didn't enjoy it just say so. There is no need to defend this bad game.
Except Nuts and Bolts was a decent game, whereas Fallout 4's primary weapon choices were "Assault Rifle" or "Combat Shotgun" (I mean, hell, at least New Vegas TRIED to have weapon diversity), it's graphicd aged like milk, and the dialogue is so stunted, you'd think it's a tree with a low roof

Am I the only one that wishes that Banjo-Kazooie Grunty's Revenge should've gotten a remake on the 3DS?
No, and I'd also love a remake of Kazooie/Tooie with modern graphics on the Switch. But as Microsoft owns the rights to BK it's propably never going to happen (although we got them in Smash, we can still hope)
@@daniel_361 The 3DS had more of a chance at it. For the exact same loophole that got Grunty's Revenge made in the first place. Microsoft have no stake in the handheld market, so Rare occasionally were allowed to make games on Nintendo handhelds.

this game is incredibly underrated purely because its in the banjo-kazooie series
Basically, just like Star Fox Adventures, if it were its own thing and not part of a larger franchise, it would have been far better received. As they stand, they never will be.

I actually loved this game. It's definitely not as good as the first two games, but I still had a great time. I even 100% completed it (Jiggies, achievements, the works)

Thank you for being the only person on TH-cam to judge this game fairly. I think most of us would have preferred Banjo Threeie in place of what we got, but this is a very entertaining game still.

Just wanna say that while this game has a bad rap, I appreciate that Jirard goes into each episode with a positive attitude and gives every game a fair shake.
Thank you for a thorough review of the game and giving it's newer mechanics a chance. It's good to know that while you have a preference for the platforming style of the old Banjo Kazooie games, your opinion wasn't completely biased against this game, and showed that it's flaws are on its own. With or without Banjo Kazooie context.

Honestly, probably one of your best videos to date, Jirard. Production quality and passion come together in just the right way. While disagreeing with your opinion on Banjo-Tooie (having just played through the games first only within the last 3 years) I can tell this was an episode you were excited for and you delivered.
I remember my brother playing this when it came out and I'm sure he said there was one trophy that only a ridiculous percentage of players actually got. He raged so bad...

I feel like Nuts and Bolts would've been beter recived if it was an Og ip. Most of the hate twards it is probably due to it's timing and the conditions it was released in. I haven't played it so I can't say if it's good or bad but this is just my theory. Feel free to add imput or share your own theories.
Honestly the marketing didn't help either. The "Banjo's Back" campaign got everyone excited... only to release what's essentially a spin-off title. It'd be like FromSoftware advertising another Dark Souls, only to then release Dark Souls: City Simulator.... actually, on second thought I'd totally be on board for that~
Loads of people who say it's shit have never played it themselves. I mocked the game a lot, but upon actually playing it I had a blast! It's a really fun game, even if it's different from the rest of the BK games.

@@romainbayer9098 I'm pretty sure the Banjo-Kazooie games are the sort of thing that any conventional wisdom on how things could be changed to make them "better" would only ruin what was already there. Or, worse, be good but still hated for being different.
But, seriously, critically thinking about it in general, platformers and collect-a-thons both make terrible candidates for full-on remakes, cause the only way to change them is to make it different in either layout or gameplay mechanics, and you might as well be making a totally new game installment in the series at that point.

He did do SOME music for the game, but most of the music was done by Robin Beanland this time.
I always felt that if I had nothing else to play, I could probably get lost in trying to master balancing the vehicles I put together. Control is tied to your engineering ability, which means if you don't recognize the importance of how things are placed, it can become easy to hate how everything works. Well done making it work out quickly.

OMG! Could you do a completion of Grabbed By the Ghoulies?! That's one of my favorite games of all time, and it's seriously an underrated gem of the Xbox era imo. I saw it in the background so I'd love to see an episode on it and hear your thoughts about it.

I honestly loved playing Nuts n Bolts but you're right in that it was held back by being a banjo game. I wonder how this game would have done if it had the same gameplay but in a different world like Lego.

This game gets an unfair rap. It’s a good game, but the biggest problem is that isn’t the 3D platformer that people wanted.
I mean what made Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie to the games we love. Well the style, the characters, the gameplay, story, the worlds, etc. And one of the most important things is gameplay. You can have the best story ever, but if the game blows so much I don´t wanna play it. We all had expectations for this game. We all waited years for any news and we got one: Banjo is back. The trailer or teaser with no hints that this game will include this wierd car build game.
And imo this game is still, if you don´t compare it to Banjo games, a bad one. The worlds are large and have so little in them like they feel pretty empty. They lack so much character when you see them and think back to the likes of Tick Tock Woods. The tension of fights like Gruntilda and other bosses isn´t there.
All in all i tried playing Nuts and Bolts and I still hate it. It´s not a great game imo. If you take away all the things giving you nostalgia noone would recommend this game. Only the music of Kirkhope, the characters somewhat safe this game. If you take them away this game is just a bad car game.
It´s great they tried to change things, but why would you completly remove the core gampley that so many loved. Look at the 3d mario series for example.
You collect stars and it´´s a platformer, but they change the formular each time by the right amount. Mario64 (the classic), Mario Sunshine (more movement obtions, Yoshi as ride,etc).
But taking the gamplay that we all love is just plain and utter stupidity.
It doesn't help that it was the only new game the series had gotten for years, and it was basically selling itself as the third big installment of the franchise even though it was clearly spinoff material. B.S. like L.O.G. showing up and pissing all over the collect-a-thon elements that helped make the series popular to begin with did not help matters. It's one thing to be an ill-timed spinoff, but this Beak Bombed right past bad timing and crashed head-on into poor taste.

Hey, a fair review of Nuts&Bolts for a change! Personally, Tooie is still my favorite game of all time, yet N&B is my favorite game of its console generation. I really enjoyed tweeking my constructions to perfection which also makes them steer really well.
I bought this game just like everyone else expecting another Banjo-Kazooie. I quit playing because it wasn't like BK enough. Jump ahead 6 months and one of my roommates was randomly looking for a new game and started playing it. I came home and he was on my x-box singing the games praises. He had never played Banjo Kazooie before.
I gave Nuts and Bolts another shot and it is a really good game.
Anyone here to get a read on this game after experiencing Tears of the Kingdom?
