3:30 I think this is not a Thaumatophyllum bipinnatifidum, but actually a huge and mature Philodendron mayoi. The Thaumatophyllum would have way bigger leaves at this stage of maturity and the nodes on it would be very very close together, it's basically self heading while this is a climber. Gorgeous cutting!
That is very interesting! I did think that the internodes were way too spread out and also thought that by the size of the plant it should’ve already grew it’s treelike base after all it is nicknamed the tree philodendron.I had never seen an extremely mature mayoi and by what I have only seen, would’ve assumed it would’ve had a thinner stem. I also did notice that the leaves were more flattened then rippled but just a assumed it was still a variation of the bipinnatifidum. Thanks for your observation! I appreciate it. 👍. Is there any way I would be able to send you pics when I am in doubt to get assistance in identifying certain plants. I have a certain 5 lobed anthurium that I haven’t a clue what it is. I searched all over and I can’t find an exact plant. It is in my quadrupled in size video.
1@@pitschl thank you so much for the info. I have the plant formally known as the Philo Selloum and she is a big mama now, I love learning more about her.
Hello! i have a huge and very mature philodendron mayoi ( 1.6 m tall and the main stem is about 15 cm in diameter) The lobes of the blade reach all the way to the midrib. so i dont think this is a mayoi but a T. bipinnafitidum. Also a very important characteristic on the mayoi is the red veins on the posterior part of the leaves and on the stems.
I received two huge cuttings of a NOID philodendron from a neighbor when she moved out of state. Her plant was over 8 feet tall. It was gorgeous. She wanted to sell it to me but I have no room for such things. So I paid her $6 for two huge cuttings. I tried to root it in water for over 3 months and it never developed one single root. I moved the cuttings to leca for another month. Nothing! This thing did not want to root. I ended up giving it to a friend of mine who runs a nursery and told him to take charge cut I couldn't watch. Because I know he was going to cut it up to give it better chance of rooting. It's in his hands now. I am trying not to stress about it.
Hey you tried your best. Perhaps if he is lucky he will give you a cutting back if he can get it to grow. It is the downside of propagating...the long and very grueling wait and the fact that sometimes it just takes a turn for the worst. Whenever I am dealing with propagations I already have it in my mind that it is going to take at least 2 or more months before I notice any substantial growth. Each plant, its health condition and the way it is propagated and grown all have an effect on the outcome...plus the fact that the plant just does absolutely what it wants to do...so many factors involved. I commend you for your attempts and for your patience. You did what you could and now you move on to your next of many plant growing adventures. HAPPY GROWING! 👏👍👏
In all honesty I think that would make the most beautiful display...and I would be satisfied with it the most. Looks like I may have to break out with the ladder after all! Sheeeeeeeeeeeeesh 😝🤪🤣. Thanks for your input and I do agree with you! 👍
Thank you and I’ve been working on situating it the way I want it to grow today. I can’t wait to see if it will take kindly to its new home. I hope it does. It’s looking good so far and should look spectacular once it hits its growth spurt. Let’s keep our fingers crossed. 🤞🤞🤞.

I just found you and I LOVE YOU!! Annndd I'm not even a minute into the video!! 😩😩❤❤
OH MY I had no idea they would get so large. I have two babies in smaller than one gallon pots as of last year already planted into a 12 inch pot. Hahahaha Seeing this ............... well I will be screaming help. I am constantly trying to find more room inside my house for my babies. I did add some more hangers for those that can hang but quickly filled them. I am big on the trellising. I am always shifting plants around to get the best light. No idea how you can gain more yard space but i would NEVER pass up a gorgeous cutting like that.
Me too! I think I will get the biggest impact if I grow it that way. I have been wanting to grow something in those blank areas...just bit a little timid...but perhaps it’s time to face my fears!!! 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
I KNOW RIGHT!!! THAT'S WHAT I SAID! She told me that she was going to give me a piece of it...but I didn't know that she was going to give me a tree! ...but of course I'm not complaining. LOL!
Hi, I have a similar plant with a similar situation. I need to remove some of the big leaves. I was hoping you could show how to cut the leaf off the best way and what to do with it. Do you have any videos like that? Thank you!
If you decide to take three cuttings from it why not put in the tree on the Arbor and in the Birds of Paradise that way none of the cuttings over take the place it's in right now.
@@elhapidi4783 WOW! All the way in Indonesia! That is plantastic! I envy the variety of plants that you have there! I hope to one day be able to visit. Sending you much love from Florida all the way to you in West Kalimantan!
I know the feeling...the prices are going up everywhere! I have adopted the method of propagating and trading my plants. That's how I am able to build my collection without being evicted from my home. LOL! Thanks for watching and HAPPY GROWING! P.S. Where are you at?
