  • First of all, congratulations on crossing the threshold and being willing to let something go.
Sounds good on the surface, if we peel back one layer and look at it, and approach it as a math equation, this is how it chunks up for you. So what is your time worth, we have to do a simple calculation and figure out whether you're a salaried employee, or you're a contractor, what is your time worth?

My neighbors let me have a table at their garage sale. I loaded up the car with my items, drove them over there, then unloaded and tagged them. I hung out with my neighbors for 3 hours at the yard sale, and 4 of my items sold. I made a grand total of $30, so $10 an hour if you only count my time at the garage sale. I would say my time is worth more than $10 an hour. However, I don't regret having a table at the garage sale, because this was a "social event" in a time of COVID. They told me I was welcome to keep my table for the second day of the garage sale, but I opted to load the car back up, drop everything off at Good Will, and be done with it.

I tried to sell things at a yard sale overseas. It didn't cost anything to participate in it. We had tons and tons of good t-shirts. By the end of the sale, our cutest cotton one sold for $1.00. I think we made about $50 for the entire sale, which was several hours long. We also spent a long time working on it and finding things and tagging them and transporting them to the sale. That was our last ever yard sale. It is easier to give things to Salvation Army and let them find new owners for the stuff. Our yard sale? Ouch!

Andrew the arduous tasks of reselling things helps one realize that buying too many things will end up in more pain. So everyone should try and resell so they realize how hard it is. This alone may help them from buying so many more new things

That’s exactly why I prefer to donate things I no longer need or want. Much better! Save my time, energy, get it done easily! Plus - my things can help someone in need! 🙏🏼🙌🏼❤️

great topic. so many minimalist youtubers focus on letting go of sentimental things, not items you assume have value and don’t really think about the actual cost/time it takes to sell it.
perfect example, my son no longer wanted a motorized lego set. i spent about 4 hours testing it, matching up hundreds of pieces to the manual, posting the ad and shipping it. after shipping and ebay’s cut, we netted $45. not worth the trouble.

Thank you for the information.. I have done the selling platform, pictures, description etc. I have sold stuff but not much. Thought of a flea market, haven't done that. I have the hardest time letting go of things, stuff, antiques from my parents. But I have to but overwhelmed with taking the step and letting go of my parents things.. I cherish things too much. Where do I begin??.. thanks..

After how many years of holding onto old favorite summer clothes, made friend try them on, perfect fit or close! She is inspired to restart the diet. Big win both ways!!! And yes, I know where my keys are these days!!!
