    I do agree that the 3k price tag is steep. But if this will be your final board then sure its good. But some believe that made in america tag is worth it. Issue is this board will get beat up and lose that good look. Another comparison would be like, Nicks Boots. Boots costing 500+ made in the states but are meant to take a beating. But if there is no other American made board. Id def pick this up at some point

    The performance is the same as my DIY board, but my battery is 29400mAh. Also, I found out some information.... Boardnamics makes these trucks(modify 270 BN) and gear drives(same as M1 Drive). You could build a cheaper version. My build is only $1100. Also, don't use cheap bushings.

    Such a sweet looking deck! I'm with you on the whole "its so easy to program the VESC to get better accelration!". If it's so easy why not do it b4 shipping? The whole logic of "well, we don't want this board to be too fast off the line , cus ..."safety reasons!" Ain't no one buying a 3k USD board will ever complain about a board being too fast off the line, "C'MON MAN!" I wonder if the company name was inspired by the movie Dead Poet's Society in any way, thats what came to my head when I first heard the name. Another great review , calling out the positives and as well as negatives for you personally.👍

    • @ajplant96
      @ajplant96 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tbf the off the line thing with a board like this would make it nearly unusable for most people, it’s running typically 2-3x the amps of most Chinese production boards. VESC safety inputs like ramping up to using the power in the mid-high range is ideal. Once you get used to the remote you can just push it all the way forward and it’ll pull plenty quick. There’s only really 2 or 3 settings worth changing in vesctool for making the board more responsive all up.

    • @chobofo
      @chobofo ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ajplant96 thanks for explaining all of that, I did not know about the technical details like that. Guess its a bit a of tricky situation, and seems like letting the buyer do a simple VESC setting if they want that crazy power is the way to go. I'd like to see Unity change that setting then rip it !

    • @ajplant96
      @ajplant96 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chobofo I’ve set my boards up where you take away a lot of the delay in response time but kept the powerband the same, makes a huge difference and you can definitely throw yourself off the board on take off if not prepared for it, any more would be overkill and I’m only running half the power 12s is capable of.

    Having a screen on the remote is ultimately pointless. Why do you look at the screen? Log your rides with the Davega and a VESC app - you’ll get incredible amounts of telemetry when you’re able to do ride analysis - after the ride.
    Secondly, PPM is a one way protocol.
    Third, if you really want a remote with a screen, plug in any UART remote.
    Fourth - just because you don’t have connection issues doesn’t mean others don’t. Anecdotes don’t constitute objective data.

    • @esk8unity
      @esk8unity  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      i disagree . as do most riders. most riders like to see there speed while riden without pulling out there phone out of there pocket. they also like to see how many miles they have done with there current trip with a quick glance. having the data available without using another gadget is normal. Having to use another gadget just to see basic info isnt. Incredible amounts of telemetry is ultimately pointless. Why would u need all this specific info about the voltage and peak power and what not? idk if u drive a car or not, but i need to see my speed, my range/gas meter, and sometimes my trip. imagine nothing on the dash and pulling out ur phone to see that info. sounds silly right?
      dont know what u mean by ppm
      why would i plug something in to get data on my screen? more added things that no one wants
      my experienced with remotes not disconnecting is larger than most riders. iv had 83 boards since 2020. its safe to say its not normal. does it happen? sure. but it also has happened with hoyt puck remotes too. the remote isnt flawless. i know 3 riders that had disconnects and 2 others full throttled on its own at esk8con.

    • @esk8unity
      @esk8unity  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i think reverse is pointless. i never over shoot my turns, and iffff the tinyyy chance something gets in my way that i cant control, i step off real qk and put my foot under the deck and point it in the correct direction. MUCH more accurate, faster and efficient then clicking a button, waiting for it to reverse, clicking again for forward position than leaning to ATTEMPT to make that 90* degree turn hoping it wont turn into a K turn style mistake. see how my input for reverse might not be the same for u? same goes for a screen on the remote. you think it’s pointless to have a screen? most riders and companies disagree with ya. thats why MOST boards/companies/riders do have it .

    To me the biggest negative is the braking and wish you dived into bc as you said most of the negatives were PO but at 3k it's technology, braking, flat deck and poor acceleration it goes way down on the list. The US built and great service will be needed on this one. Those cables are screaming yank me bro so I can validate great service.

    • @flop20lo
      @flop20lo ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The acceleration is really easily fixed man. I have my boards set up in a similar way just because I'd prefer to have the control when cornering. Coming off the brakes and getting back on the power, especially when you have a lot of power is dangerous without some ramping. If you want it to sit you on your ass when you're not paying attention it's very easy to adjust that.

    • @flop20lo
      @flop20lo ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Same goes for the braking.. most people with vesc based boards will adjust all of that to their personal preference

    honestly this board seems really overpriced for what you get.. that is until I actually looked up the cost of each individual part. the cost to build this is about 2500 usd, so honestly the price seems fair enough.
    but considering its competition, I dont think this board will be that popular. my Eovan which was less than half the price on sale for example outperforms it in range, build quality and speed. the trucks and lack of a davega unit are a downgrade though, but apart from those 2 parts, I dont see how this board is much better than most AT 2-1 boards on the market now.

    • @squishybluecat
      @squishybluecat ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The eovan absolutely does not outperform this in build quality or range. and you could easily make this faster than an Eovan also by adjusting the vesc settings.

    • @pixel6173
      @pixel6173 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@squishybluecat my Eovan has 1058Wh of P42A, this has 930.
      my Eovan has a top speed of 46 mph. the defiant board has 38 mph top speed and gear drive so that cannot be changed
      the Eovan has a forged carbon fibre deck and CNC machined wheels with a custom remote and full colour display. its also running a VESC. meanwhile the defiant 1 uses a really generic mass produced enclosure and hasnt even bothered tying the cables down to the board

    • @squishybluecat
      @squishybluecat ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@pixel6173 lmao if you really think the eovan isnt the definition of mass produced i dont know what to tell you. You also sure as hell aint getting to 46 on that thing lmao, even if you had the power to in the first place. Mqyyybee if you just didnt want any torque at all.

    • @pixel6173
      @pixel6173 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@squishybluecat the Eovan is mass produced ofcourse, but the Defiant board is also using a few cheap parts. and when it comes to quality I still think the deck and enclosure of the Eovan greatly outperform the Defiant board. the trucks are absolutely better on the defiant board though.
      and yes my Eovan does push that speed, if youre in the r/electriskateboarding subreddit you will likely have seen me go well over 40 mph on that thing several times. its not hard to do. 40T pulleys + 7 inch wheels. 39 mph is my more usual speed though, as going that fast is deceptively easy. anything over that becomes hard to reach but its still doable, just slow.

    • @aaronchang8228
      @aaronchang8228 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pixel6173 so i don’t know which eovan you have since they all have either a 12s5p or 12s4p config, and 60 p42a cells give you about 900wh. so if you have 1058wh you don’t have p42a cells. the stormcore 60D+ definat uses is also one of the best vesc on the market. not justifying the price, becasue thats what you pay for boutique boards, but eovan is definately not beating it, at least not in power or torque. Range maybe, but defiant is a street board so you don’t need massive range anyways.
