    Have you ever thought of starting a new life in another country? 🤔 If you have already moved to another country, have you experienced any culture shocks as well?

    • @vondoromal7016
      @vondoromal7016 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The biggest culture shock I had was not the ability to speak English but the ability to communicate and relate. (What is this thing they call football throwing and running with an oblong shaped ball?).
      Going to highschool in North Hollywood helped out a lot and allowed me to have an identity and assimilate.
      The big cultural issue right now here in the Black vs White polarized America is where does the Filipino's fit in? The answer is both and not at all at the same time.

      @Kambing101 I am curious why would you leave the US?
      I can see that the next American Dream is to make money in the US and live somewhere else with the rising cost of healthcare, education and housing.
      We all have to take care of our micro first before we concern ourselves with the macro, I think. So, now one should pin you to having to do with improving your home country...

    • @vondoromal7016
      @vondoromal7016 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Kambing101 in looking at our situation here, The US is 28th in the Social Progress Index and dropping. 19th in 2011.
      As far as I see, rising cost of education, housing, and healthcare is the issue because it directly impacts economic mobility.
      That is one of the reason why a guy like Andrew Yang is advocating for Universal Basic Income (UBI).
      Improving out nutrition, safety, freedoms, the environment , health, education and more is what UBI can do for each individual.
      It's hard to think about Macro problem when we have micro issue prohibiting US.
      I should not be worrying about the national deficit when I can't even put.food.on the table.
      If capitalism is the American way, then it's government should incentivize you to stay. If the country is decreasing it's quality then capitalism will say, move to another country that will give a better ROI.
      I am on the way to go back to the Philippines. I feel that I can more over there with the little resources I have gotten and going to get here in the US.

    Bilang isang Amerikanong puti na may pusong Pinoy, masasabi ko na sa dami ng mga Pinoy na nakilala Di talaga nila inakala na mahirap din pala sa US. Panay sa Trabaho. Sobrang gastos. Pero magaganda nga ang mga bagay…Kaso lang yon soooobrang mahal. But again Sobrang daming opportunities kung compared sa Pilipinas.

      @Puting Pinoy Lots of Filipino people don't know the true beauty of the Philippines. We are so rich in diversity and history. What really makes Philippines unique or different to other countries is the values and behavior of Filipino people -- the being hospitable, friendly, family-oriented, warm, down-to-earth, hard working, compassionate, caring, and so on and so forth (majority of them). I also would like to include the diverse culture, such as festivals, folk dances, Filipino values like the word 'po/opo' or 'pagmamano' as a sign of respect. If there's after life, nothing I could've ever wished for but to be a Filipino again, despite of how bad the governance here. We've also got awe-inspiring landscapes and stunning sceneries.

    Pareho kami nang experience ni Jude Yap. I went to the US 3 months short of graduation with no plan what to do in the US after going through looking for college opportunities in the Philippines. We left PI very abruptly.
    Going to highschool here in the US was the best thing that happened. It allowed me to breath culturally and lean over an identity I can proud and face the world.
    Going to the Army was more of an escape to independence as much as having an economic upward mobility. Going to college became unpopular to me especially when I may have to ask my financially struggling parents for partial support. So the Army became the way.
    Would I want to have stayed in the Philippines when I was younger knowing what I know now? Most definitely!

    "Fun" Living in the Philippines is really relative. If you are well off and privileged you will be able to live in a bubble where everything "seems" fine. But after the pandemic it made me realized how poor governance affects its people. While most of the countries are already "normal" we are just starting to get back up after of almost 2 years of being cooped up.

    Personally, I felt bad for Filipinos who moved to the US at relatively younger age (maybe 30 years and below, by choice or by necessity). It so fun in the Philippines, the adventures, friends, family, community, culture, the whole experience, regardless of your economic status, its amazing. Obviously, you’re going to missed all that. For me, USA is all about convenience and making money.

    I’m from Leyte in tacloban area I left Philippines when I was 12, moved to Italy 🇮🇹 then my mother remarried so we end up moving to Florida at age 16. So I been living here in Florida for 30 plus years, bought a house, got married to an American man, I have 3 children so Florida is my home. But Philippines will always be my motherland so I am planning to retire there. My life here in the US is okay more like a middle class but when I do move to Philippines I will be more comfortable there since the dollars stretches further there. Unlike here in the US you pay so much a month especially when the inflation and prices going up with everything else. Even if the prices are going up in the Philippines I know my life there will be more comfortable and I’m more richer there too lol. It’s only right to retire in the Philippines since it is my motherland after all. But yeah here in the states it’s so different they don’t say sir or ma’am to your bosses we call them by their first name lol. I’m so used to it since I been living here almost all my life. I will only go back and forth here in the US to the Philippines since my kids are half American so I will be visiting my adult kids and grandkids in the future. Thankfully I did pretty good for myself having a good job, my own home,being married,my mom and my twin sister are here and friends as well here in the US. I can’t wait to go back to the Philippines though but I am visiting Philippines next year. 🇵🇭 my culture shock when I first moved in the Italy and to the US was when they don’t take off their shoes when coming inside their homes 😆

      No disrespect, but why do Filipinas always marry white men? I genuinely do not mean to offend you. I just wonder why it is not more common for Filipinas to marry their own men or even men from other Asian races. Filipinas are the only Asian women I have noticed this with.

    Favorite here is the Aerospace Engineering student. She's quite mature for her young age. But yes, I also have a Toto portable washlet. 🤣 Well, she can continue studying and she just might get hired here if she's really good. Guy with a boyfriend (the Alabama one? ) also shows a lot of maturity in his views.
    In my case, the culture shock was the need for credit. When I first immigrated legally, in 1991, I did it on my own (neither parents nor sibling brought me here). When I got my job, I had to live in motel rooms because I just could not rent any apartment, since I had no credit. It took six months before I could rent a studio apartment. Even then, I had no furniture. My "bed" was the carpeted floor, my "pillow" an aerobic step. I was able to buy a foldable futon mattress that doubled as a floor couch, a small TV to watch, a blanket. There was a small fridge and a hotplate in the apartment.
    As to going back to the Philippines, I feel safer here in the USA. I am by myself (son is in NYC and doing well) and I feel more at home here. I never felt like I belonged in the Philippines, and nobody thought I was Filipina because of the way I spoke English (even got mocked on the phone for it). My mother always thought I belonged more in the USA and she was right (problem is , I was conceived in Baltimore, MD but born in Manila, Philippines). I don't go with the Filipino community since I easily assimilate into American society. I live in a small town in the East Coast, so I am happy with the peace and quiet I have. The young ones say they won't go back. Their minds could change once they reach retirement age.
    Oh, another reason I immigrated? Things came too easily to me in the Philippines. I wanted to make it the hard way and yes, it was hard to make it here!!! I have been here for more than thirty years already, so now I can relax, live in peace.

      Same here. I was born and raised in Philippines until my parents brought me here in the US when I was 12. I didn't have a 'fun' life but we were already rich and I don't have that much friends. I always had high ambitions, loved and excelled in STEM subjects and never kept up with showbiz or teleseryes. My parents are multiple business owners and they prefer the business climate here. I assimilate better to the American culture and like you we are not in cohorts with the Filipino Community (crab mentality, jealousy, gossiping Maritess, etc.). America is my home now and I don't intend to go back.

    This was interesting...but I have a genuine question. Where is the patriotism and staying behind to contribute to the growth of the country? Filipinos have suffered a lot from foreign invasions and there are a lot that live in the U.S. Filipinos should not forget how the U.S. has treated them either during Philippine-American war. It just kind of depresses me to see people abandon their country instead of contributing to their own economy. However, I do understand that the struggle is real there. Plus, dealing with typhoons, etc. I just think ..the grass is not always greener on the other side as a fellow Asian who lives in the West. A lot of Asians in the West would prefer to live in Asia. Also, the sense of community and the warmth in the Philippines is completely unmatched. So many loving, affectionate people. I cannot fathom why anyone would leave.

      im with you, Elizabeth. Its kinda disappointing to hear most of them not wishing to go back anymore and just visit for vacation. so i guess pag nakatikim na ng first world, you won't even think of going back to the simple life you were living before and you begin to compare, complain and realize how bad it is in your home country. And that's sad.
