Randy gave his life to save everyone on the ground and on the bus.

Actually no....what I see here is Ozzy's frustration when his voice cracks at 3:02. This is Ozzy's "big part" of the song, and the look of jealousy towards Randy after he blew it speaks volumes. He knows Randy is gonna nail his parts because he didn't stay up all night drinking, and coking out...lol.

That kind of stuff happens all the time in rock, especially with relatively new material. If you've ever sang in a band, it's almost impossible to hit every note perfectly every time. Everyone has their moments - the show must go on. Ozzy is a very good singer overall. I would say underrated. He has a very unique voice that really carries a tune well. You might notice the sound of the entire video is a fraction of a second off from the image, btw.

Today marks 40 YEARS to the day, legendary guitarist Randy Rhoads tragically died at the age of 25 in a fateful plane crash during the 1982 Ozzy Osbourne tour. Despite his passing half a lifetime ago, Randy's legacy has had a profound influence on my playing and composition more than any other guitarist. I've been reflecting on his memory a lot lately.
Out of the ashes of Black Sabbath, he was instrumental in the success of launching Ozzy Osbourne's solo career. They believed in each other and achieved more than they ever could alone. Randy gave Ozzy the confidence he needed to believe in himself again and Ozzy gave Randy the artistic freedom to reach his full potential. In their wake, the early Ozzy Osbourne ("Blizzard of Ozz") band left two albums which have been considered to be milestones from which all other metal albums are judged. Their work has stood the test of time while influencing generations of musicians.
With his unforgettable tone, technical prowess, and composition genius, Randy married the styles of heavy metal and classical music on a level never before seen and changed the face of rock 'n roll forever. He was an incredibly humble, caring, gifted musician and he loved sharing his gift with others. Whenever he had time on a tour, he would look up guitar teachers in the area and learn anything he could, always growing. And when he would come back, he would always follow up with his 60+ students, helping them improve, and in the process, touching their lives. His discipline continues to inspire me, not only as a guitarist, but as a person. He is everything I would love to be as a musician and I hope to leave my mark someday as he did....
Keep rockin' The Great Gig in the Sky buddy....
    †RIP Randy Rhoads† (December 6th, 1956 - March 19th, 1982)

Crazy Train was recorded on March 22, 1980. Two years +3 days before he breathed his last. Randy Rhoads, the guy who went from Crazy Train to Dee* in just two tracks ...and then followed it up the following year with Flying High Again. That last album, released on 7/11, like a roll of the dice, capped off these three of my all time favorite songs, with the last which only 4 months later proved to be ironically titled.
      * - named in honor of his mother.

Just watched the Netflix documentary on Randy this evening and his story is such an incredible one but also so sad. I was compelled to come and search for this video straight after and fire up my Mesa and see if I could still remember the riff (well almost!). An absolutely incredible talent who inspired so many people with his mind-blowing playing and also his natural charisma and pranks. Being more of an Eddie fan growing up as a teenager (as Randy was a few years before my time), I wasn't aware of the rivalry (and the respect) that existed between them. That was an interesting spin from the doco. They were both tone-obsessed virtuoso players and inspired a whole new generation of hard rock/metal between them. I have a Marshall poster of Randy tucked away somewhere which I plan to unfurl tomorrow to put back up in glory again on the back of my tiny studio door :) \^^/ RIP Randy and Eddie
